Policies are purely for pandering purposes

Who needs policies anyway when one can get distracted by non-accountable expense accounts, huge wages, great pensions, perks, junkets and looking after ones business mates and family.

Policies! Ha!!! They only propaganda fodder for the masses to swallow!

I think by voting for a sensible independent in both local and Euro, and not picking second choices, I have thrown away my vote. Might as well have spoiled.

Why not tbh? In the past 10 years they've become a totally reformed political group and doing a great job in the power sharing of the North.

It's about time that people realised that there's more to Sinn Fein than An Phoblacht and rebel songs

    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0f/Northern_Ireland_election_seats_1997-2005.svg

Sinn Féin have become very good at fighting for small issues that gets them a lot of *sigh* grassroots support.

Parties take a long time to change, if they change at all, because loyalties are inherited from parents. I wouldn't vote for any party that had ties to a private army within the last hundred years, and I don't care how good their suggested policies are.

I do the same. I've always been confused as to whether you're supposed to or not though.

Alot of people say that you're only meant to chose your favorites and then rank them accordingly, leaving the others blank

By filling out the whole sheet, it's probably giving the others a better chance unwillingly :pac:

Yep basically. For example, people who don't want a FF person nominated should leave their box blank i.e not give them a preference at all, as it all adds up. You are not obliged to fill up all preferences

In all fairness what do Sinn Fein and Celtic jerseys have in common.

Party loyalties aside, I vote for those that appear to share the views that I do, then I stop. No point in having a vote transfer to a candidate that I do not feel represents my interests.

I made it to 5 for the European candidates and to 2 for the locals.

I found that I'd never heard of most of the local candidates (ward boundary shift recently) so I just voted for the 2 I knew that have done decent work locally in the last few years.

It's about 12 hours ago now, but I think I gave #3 to a FG candidate who lives down the road for the town council.
I know she does a lot for the community so that's why I gave her such a high vote. I wouldn't normally even consider voting for FF cast offs.

I had deiced to vote Labour for the first time ever, for the last month I knew I was voting for John King & Niamh Mc Gowan..... until I noticed on the way to the polling station that King's poster was printed by Alexander Boyd in Glasnevin, which is just an office and really they were by Alexander Boyd's in Co Antrim. In my job 2 of our printers were made redundant on Tuesday and it makes me sick that these politicians talk about job creation when there sending work up north instead of keeping people in work down here.
I've done some googling since I got home, apparently Labour and Sinn Fein had their posters printed up North, and Fianna Fail posters have been printed in Printgraf in Kilbride Co. Meath, don't know about Fianna Gael. The cheek of Labour n SF, I had heard that people were getting there posters done up North (by Alexander Boyd in "Glasnevin") but I just assumed that Labour wouldn't.

So my vote was fairly random, 1-3 all Independent

I think you'll find that, unlike any other party - SF is a 32 county-wide party. I fail to see your point.

We need more SF heads in the Dáil they have connections and they might squeeze a bomb in Brian Cowards breakfast roll in the morning :)

I'm giving them a chance thus my vote

Nah, they're all about policies now :pac:
Seriously though both guys I #1ed do good work locally and it is after all a local election. The one for MEP is from a good background and is a fairly intelligent guy...SF aside he'd probably make a good MEP.
The sudden change of mind was more about being bored and going to the shops anyway, so it made sense to drop in and vote on the way.

See there was some balls up in a polling station in Trim as well today...didn't catch exactly what happened.

Maybe so, but they are seeking election in a 26 county sovereign nation.

So that's why so many of their supporters wear sovereign rings. I'd always wondered.

Actually, they are running in elections across the 32 counties.

If your biggest gripe with SF is the fact that they print their posters in the north, then I'd say they are doing just fine.

I don't mind where anyone prints anything. Any polictical activity undertaken by Sinn Féin in Northern Ireland is coincidental to their activity in Ireland. I am indicating that the production of party political posters for the purposes of an Irish election in a foreign nation is equivelent for both the Labour party and Sinn Féin.

Your assertion that the party is active abroad is irrelevent as a refutation to JeanKelly's point. Several parties span multiple countries, and Libertas is an example of one which operates both in Ireland and abroad. If one takes offence to, for instance, Labour printing abroad, there is no reason to assume they should not feel the same about Sinn Féin, simply because they are active in the country of production.
