    1 mile - 5 mins
    3k - 10 mins
    5k - 20 mins
    5miles - 30 mins
    10k - 40 mins
    10miles - 1 hour
    Half Marathon - 90 mins
    Marathon - 3 hours

Have run the 3k time back in the early 90's and hope to run the 5 mile time next year.

5k will come this year ,
10 mile I dont think this one will be possible for me tol break have more chance with the half mara time.
3 hour marathon i dont think so either.

    for females, perhaps

    1 mile - 6 mins
    3k - 12 mins
    5k - 25 mins
    5miles - 40 mins
    10k - 50 mins
    10miles - 80 mins
    Half Marathon - 2 hours
    Marathon - 4 hours

On a good day*, I'm not too far off in any of them actually except the marathon. Have run a sub 25 5k and a sub 40 5 miles. I'm trying to forget my recent 10k times...

*these haven't been a regular occurance for two months or so

    1 mile - 5 mins
    3k - 10 mins
    5k - 20 mins
    5miles - 30 mins
    10k - 40 mins
    10miles - 1 hour
    Half Marathon - 90 mins
    Marathon - 3 hours

Just reminded of these targets and realised that since this was started I have now broken two of them, namely the 5k and 10k times. I've also got to within 16 seconds of the 1 mile time and 46 seconds of the 5 mile time (if you can count 8km as 5miles). My current PB for the half is a hole 30 minutes off that time though, but I am certain that I could cross that off the list if I were to just race another one as the previous one I just wasn't trying for most of the race.

Any race times that I put into the likes of McMillian now though seem to come back claiming that I'd get the sub3 for the marathon. I am still a long way off being convinced by that possibility just yet though.

I'd have you close to the 3:10 for the marathon anyway, get your 5 mile time down to sub 30 and I'll be expecting a sub 3 go.. jsut need to give up playing in the snow for a year ;)

Maybe you wouldn't run a sub 3 tomorrow but based on some of your recent races (and your impressive first lap last night) you are more than capable of it if you trained for it.

Oh, I certainly don't plan on going to try for a marathon tomorrow or anything daft like that. It's just the idea of stringing together 26 consecutive 6:53 miles that I cannot see happening for a while yet. I will admit that those numbers do not scare me quite as much as just a couple of months ago though when I'd not have even considered it a possibility.

About 3:10'ish is what I think I would be aiming for now if I were to have been doing the miles. It's probably some kind of mental block on doing so many of the faster miles in a row.

    Not a chance.

Autumn 2010 would be my next possibilty for targeting another marathon as training for next spring would clash with the snow.

Runners of a certain standard aspire to the following targets, nice round numbers...

    1 mile - 5 mins
    3k - 10 mins
    5k - 20 mins
    5miles - 30 mins
    10k - 40 mins
    10miles - 1 hour
    Half Marathon - 90 mins
    Marathon - 3 hours

    for females, perhaps

    1 mile - 6 mins
    3k - 12 mins
    5k - 25 mins
    5miles - 40 mins
    10k - 50 mins
    10miles - 80 mins
    Half Marathon - 2 hours
    Marathon - 4 hours

Have you completed the set? Or have you other targets?
just had a quick look thru this thread and i know this post is old but there was obviously no real thought put into the female times !
    Marathon - 4 hrs , over nine min/mile pace
    5k - 25mins , 8 min/mile pace
Does anyone else think there a little too easy ?

I wouldn't see them as being as much of a "barrier" as some of the male ones would be. 5k in particular seems soft on the female list, I think I'd have a fairly decent chance of doing a 25.00-25.30 5k in the next few months but wouldn't be able to get close to many of the others.

The half-marathon time of 2 hours (9.10/mile pace) seems quite soft in comparison to a 1.30 half for the guys too.

Not at all. All clubs will want as many members as possible to increase income from membership fees. I'd say it's more a case of these runners are not interested in athletics clubs, rather than the other way around. Anytime we are out running, if we see someone running who is not affiliated to a club we will invite them up to the club, some take us up on the invite, many don't...

    RF

Sounds like you have a welcoming club
What is it? I'm toying with the idea of joining a club to give me a reason to run regularly and in order to have a group to train with.

yep agree with Seres and RK. Really wish there was a magic formula to compare women's times with men's.
