well if i'd thought there was another 3 weeks i wouldnt have asked clearly. i had heard the calls go out about 7 weeks prior to the SID. 7 weeks from now is mid july, which couldnt be a kick in the hole away from the SID, hence my question.

Alright keep your knickers on bc84 - I wasn't having a go, simply implying that calls for July probably won't be going out for another 2-3 weeks, In the past calls have tended to go out 6 weeks preceeding the course start date - so work out from the previous courses when the july one is set to start and do the maths.
Going from past courses the calls for July are still a couple of weeks away - however nothing is set in stone.............

Need any help with the subtracting give me a shout.

It seemed like you were having a go, hence my reply. Don't be worrying about the subtraction, i'm sure i can manage. I wouldn't want you straining the old grey matter too much my pedigree chum.

Do you not think we're out of it at this stage?

I think other than perhaps Suziesaysso, that most of the Non RC's are too far down at this stage unfortunately.

How long ago did C14 start?

There's still possibly July, Aug, Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan & Feb.
That means there could still be another 220 slots up for grabs (approx) - it just means you'll have to be patient, i think people from C14 will still be getting calls at the end of this year.
I love the waiting, its better than finding out!

No way, like 1979 SD said re the calls, & it goes for the process a whole, nothing is set in stone.

I definitely wouldn't rule peeps out up to the mid - pushing later 300's.

Also remember that some people have received a letter saying that they wouldnt be contacted before Sept 2009 as the number of applicants they were taking from the pool hadnt been finalised.

As it will not be less than 440, it could potentially be more, which only adds fuel to rumours I've heard circulating that C14 and C15 could each take 480, and another 20 from each background would certainly give those in the late 300's a much better chance.

It would also be prudent to remember that as a medical costs a lot of money, they aren't being doled out willy nilly. I'd say if you've had a medical you're in with a realistic chance of being offered a training spot, providing medical and vetting both provide a clean bill of health;)

I hope you guys are right.

It has just been so long, its been months since I finished my medical and vetting and not a word...

    Stay positive though I guess.

Does anyone know what way the deferral scheme works?
Are you guaranteed a future place?

I would also be very interested to find out about this from anyone who knows....anything about deferrals and the process may be helpful depending on IF and WHEN I was lucky enough to get in..

When your pack comes through with your joining instructions there is a form to fill in to say whether or not you will be attending, you simply put that you won't be attending and put in your reason why, along with a written request to defer to whenever you wish to start.
you will then receive confirmation whether or not it has been granted - it states there is only one deferral allowed per person and is subject to the decision of the PSNI.
Depending on what info you give, they can always defer you a little bit longer than you wanted - ie, if you asked to defer from Jul to Aug for a booked holiday they could decide to load you onto the Sep or Oct course - for whatever reasoning they decide.
Hope this helps a little - in short, if you have a good reason they seem to be as flexible as possible.

Thanks very much for taking the time to answer that, much appreciated!

I know it sounds silly to be thinking about deferrals at this stage considering I may not even get in, and you would think that after waiting a year and a half or so on this campaign from applying I would jump at the chance to get in as soon as possible if I was lucky enough to be offered a place, and I WOULD!!! But on the other hand, the way this process works, after over a year of waiting and not really knowing or being told anything all the way through, you cant be expected to put your life completely on hold for all that time without being informed of your chances or anything or any kind of potential timeframe for getting in, and not organise anything such as a long holiday to visit family or something just because theres a chance it might clash with a start date you might never get!!!
but it would be just my luck to go ahead and book something as I havent heard anything at all about starting and for a place to be offered to me then! So its good to know there is at least some scope for deferring should that happen.....I havent gone through all of this for over a year just to mess it up by having to request a deferral because of a clash!!

Anyway, I'm waffling, just wanted to say thanks for the info!

    Cheers

ps. do you or anyone know what would happen if they decided to turn down your deferral request? would that mean you are just out of the campaign completely and thats that, do you think? like you had your chance and have blown it type of thing? or do you think they would say sorry we wont grant you a deferral but you can still start on the original date we gave you? would be a nightmare if they turned down your deferral but would be even worse if they then forfeited your original place, and you couldnt just forget about/cancel your other plans that clashed and just take your original start date!!!!:eek::eek:

think if you got turned down for referral it would be a case of like your date or lump it. in which case i would like it. a lot.

thats what i would think but u just never know with this recruitment process do you!!! so was just seeing if anyone knew for sure.

and yes if I was given no other option but to choose between starting in garnerville and losing about a grands worth in flights, or to just forfeit this campaign and just go on those flights, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind what I'd do! garnerville all the way obviously!!!

If your deferral is not granted you then have to decide if you wish to accept your provisional date - your will place will be held on that course if it isn't granted - but it will be a case of take it or leave it!

    no doubt.

that's good to know though, cheers for that.
