Can't decide between this or Pukkelpop=/

Hold off till a good bit after the Pukkelpop line up is announced. It's usually announced in the beginning of April if I remember correctly and then they normally add more headliners a few weeks after that.

Never get why they leave it so late and don't just announce a full line up

Same with Lowlands, full line-up is announced in may. There's a few confirmed bands on the site already, used to be a site someplace with a list of rumoured and confirmed bands.

I have no idea about Lowlands to be honest, I've never been sorry.

I know Pukkelpop sold out once before apparently talking to some Belgians last year.

The great thing about it now though is they have loads of spare fields so even if it sells out they just open a new field for camping and so on. The festival area is fairly spaced out too so none of the tents are ever really full (except for the headliners on the main stage).

I think Lowlands has been selling out for the last 2 years and I heard from a mate tickets have been going pretty fast this year also. I wouldn't chance going there and getting a ticket at the entrance.

Patti Smith announced for EXIT 09

For punk lovers, the opportunity to see and hear Patti Smith live is one of those moments that makes them go, ”After hearing this, I can die!” Well, this opportunity will be given to all of us who recognized themselves in this line, on Thursday, 9th July, at Exit festival’s main stage.

Looking at all the line-ups of a few of the euro festivals (exit, lowlands, pinkpop, pukkelpop, sziget, rock werchter) life festival has a better line-up for me personally and the ticket price is cheaper (cept for exit).

Graspop line-up is good but i dont really want to go to a pure metal festival, id like to go to see all sorts.

See what comes up over the next while.

Does exit normally sell out quickly or does it at all?

The list of the artists is incomplete now, there will be much more of them. I've been working there last year (backstage stuff/supervising) and must say the atmosphere was great!

Lots of trailers with different food, I think Pizza Hut or some other popular pizza chain had their trailers there as well as trailers with food for vegetarians, BBQ food etc.

The only beer you can buy is Heineken, and you can't bring your own alcohol.

We had 7 stages last year. Every stage with different type of music so everyone will find something for himself. Festival collected over 100 international stars last year, such as The Chemical Brothers, Massive Attack, Jay-Z, Sex Pistols and many many more.

Two of the stages were located in giant Nuclear Bunker! Unfortunately guests were not allowed to go deep inside as it was protected by armed soldiers who were patrolling them for 24h, nice guys by the way.

NGOs had their space too. Greens, Amnesty International and many more organizations and foundations were making their happenings, collecting signatures or presenting some photographies. They were not allowed to do that outside of NGO area so there's no chance that they will disturb you during the event in any other place except NGO area.

It was very safe and except few tent robberies nothing bad really happened.

Medical help is free and very helpful.
Whats the story with no alcohol allowed in the campsite? Or is it just that you can't bring your own in?

Lowlands is sold out by the way. I think they're releasing more as they're claping down on touting websites selling them on at a profit.

You can't bring your own in, but you can buy it easily in the tents, trailers and mobile pubs. I'm not sure if something will change for this year but I don't think so.

Cool. I thought it'd be a bit odd to have an alcohol ban in the campsite. What are the beer prices like?

As usual, I've left the summer festival ticket purchase waaaay too late in the day. Oxegen - Too many kids. Picnic - Dates don't suit. UK - Practiculary everything sold-out.

So i'm seriously considering this Pukkelpop...

My only hesitation is there is another festival on the same weekend, in Vienna, Austria and in my mind its line up is a little superior. Radiohead, Prodigy, Ting Tings, Jarvis Cocker, Grace Jones, Kasabien, Bloc Party to name just a few.

The problem is, I can't find anyone who has ever been to this festival, and indeed not a single post/review etc on the web aside from the usual publicity blurb. I am a firm believer that atmosphere and the general vibe of a festival is just as important as the line-up, and this Pukkelpop certainly seems to have rave reviews...

I know this is a little of "off topic" but I wondering has anyone heard of this festival or been maybe? And, in your opinion is Pukkelpop the better choice??

Sorry left out some crucial information..

Its called FM4 Frequency Festival. Website is www.frequency.at

I'm thinking maybe its changed name from some else á la Witness morphing into Oxegen... and thats why there is no information on it?? Any ideas?

Moved the above three posts from the Pukkelpop thread.

No, that festival's been around for a few years now, though it looks like this year it is moving from Salzburg to St. Polten, near Vienna.

I've never been to it myself though I reckon the lack of reviews is due to its relatively small size compared with other festivals held around that same period. Most Western Europeans would opt for Sziget in Hungary instead.
