Well folks, after picking up the pieces after Christmas I'm thinkin of organising a new leg of Longord's 'The F*cked Tour' for a European rock festival!

    So far the contenders are;
    Rock AM Ring (Germany)
    Rock IM Park (Germany)
    Pinkpop (Holland)
    Rock Werchter (Belgium)

Went to Rock IM Park last year, best time ever!!! So now its time again!

Anyone else doin anything simialr? Anything good on the grapevine? I've seen tat Metallica, Bullet, Killswitch, Trivium and COB are all big contenders this year!

Pinkpop have already announced Dpeche Mode, Placebo and the Kooks for this year. RAR/RIP have already announced a lot more bands, incl. Trivium, Slipknot, Killers. And as for RW, it appears Oasis definitely have oneof the headline spots.

Was at RW in 07, absolutely brilliant, and definitely recommend it. Did Pinkpop last year, was a blast, although don't think the festival is as good overall, but still recommend it. Plus, its Holland...plenty of fun stuff to do:D

This year, I was thinking of going inter-railing, picking up a few festivals along the way, and RIP was looking most likely too. But not now, its Australia for me instead. I'll miss the festival circuit though!

    Im thinking one of these

    RAR/RIP(Germany)
    Benicassim(Greece)
    Pinkpop(Netherlands)
    Lolwands(Netherlands)
    Lollapalloza(USA)(woops not a European fest)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,685 ✭✭✭Tom65

Lowlands is probably the best festival I've been at. Rock Werchter was good, but everything was very expensive. Lowlands is cheap enough and everyone there was really nice. It's a very laid back atmosphere, and the theme park is brilliant.

I don't know if I'll make it to a festival this year, but I'd like to get to Benicassim and Roskilde eventually.

Anyone been to bestival in the Isle Of Man in the past? Im looking at it the past while, and being a person who would take to the more laid back smaller festivals, this seems just perfect to me, also, for ticket price and what id pay to get from dublin to the festival site (plains trains etc) I'd work out roughly the same as an Electric Picnic Ticket for 2009 (with the sterling bad at the moment).

The Line-up is nice and small, fairly wide range of offerings for everyone etc.

Id be glad to hear from anyone who's been.:)

Oh and i might try Isle Of Wight

Bestival was pretty much wiped off the face of the Earth in 2008. Regardless of what the weather is this year Id imagine its going to have a much worse turnout this year as a result.

i couldnt recommend rock am ring more.ive been the last three years and most likely going again this year. most folk ive talked to who have been to both rock am ring and rock im park say rock am ring is the better of the two

    Nevermind.

Well I think I'm going to Glasto, Benicassim and Roskilde....and Slane at home. Anyone doing ****** this year?? Really love ******, even though the picnic crowd seem to think they're sooo much hipper for going to picnic...but it's got so seriously overpriced! It's nuts!! I've got my 4 day Benicassim ticket and flights to Spain for less than the price of the ****** ticket! Nuts!

It looks like I will be attending Rock Werchter again this year unless the lineup is absolute much (which I doubt it will be)

Booked tickets for Primavera Sound in Spain. Interested in doing Hove Festival in Norway depending on the lineup. If not, I'll do Graspop again, possibly catch a day or two at Rock Werchter a week later. That's all for now!

Def Leppard are due at Download.

I VERY much doubt this, but in fairness, if it did happen I'd be the first on the train down!

Ya gonna bus it from Budapest, i think its around 5 hours or so. Gonna try and rent an apartment over there for the week. Anyone have any recommendations, probably for 4-5 people?

For an apartment my best advise is premier exit http://www.premier-exit.com the website photos of all apartments available + a map with the apartment location relative to Exit. A guy a called Milos runs the company, he is a top lad and tell him Johnny sent you!

For transport to exit a company called Gea tours run a shuttle bus all year round from Budapest to Novi sad. Its a mini bus so it is alot faster than the Exit bus. Takes ages to get through passport control on the big bus. I've used Gea tours 4 times now and they are always waiting outside the airport. Its an excellent service. There phone number is +381112686635

I can recommend Heineken Open'Er in Gdynia, Poland. 4 days long festival, great atmosphere and over 100 stars.

I'm going to Rock Werchter but that looks really good, will keep in mind in the future! I say it's cheap enough too is it, food drink etc?

Couple that festival with a chillout break in Gdansk or Krakow afterwards, it would make a nice trip!

The list of the artists is incomplete now, there will be much more of them. I've been working there last year (backstage stuff/supervising) and must say the atmosphere was great!

Lots of trailers with different food, I think Pizza Hut or some other popular pizza chain had their trailers there as well as trailers with food for vegetarians, BBQ food etc.

The only beer you can buy is Heineken, and you can't bring your own alcohol.

We had 7 stages last year. Every stage with different type of music so everyone will find something for himself. Festival collected over 100 international stars last year, such as The Chemical Brothers, Massive Attack, Jay-Z, Sex Pistols and many many more.

Two of the stages were located in giant Nuclear Bunker! Unfortunately guests were not allowed to go deep inside as it was protected by armed soldiers who were patrolling them for 24h, nice guys by the way.

NGOs had their space too. Greens, Amnesty International and many more organizations and foundations were making their happenings, collecting signatures or presenting some photographies. They were not allowed to do that outside of NGO area so there's no chance that they will disturb you during the event in any other place except NGO area.

It was very safe and except few tent robberies nothing bad really happened.

Medical help is free and very helpful.

Poland is full of festivals during the summer. Every big city has its own.

Another interesting Polish festival is Coke Live Music Festival which take place in Krakow.
    http://www.livefestival.pl/news_en.html

They have one of the Europe's biggest country music festival, comedy festivals, big Christian events with lots of Gospel music, techno and electronic music festivals (including few on the beach) and many more.

One of the most interesting festivals is Woodstock Festival. It's absolutely free, lots of alcohol, lots of gigs and over 400.000 people from all over the world every year. Currently biggest festival in Europe and which makes it even more special all money goes for charity and artists play for free.
