Some people genuinely think it's sh1t though - it's not a matter of getting on a bandwagon etc. And they're entitled to their opinion.

I've never been to Coppers but I'm reliably informed it's the Dublin Reardons (awful place in Cork) so I know I'd hate it.

I've never been to "Coppers," but I'm gathering that this would be an appropriate response to this thread.
    Preconceived prejudices FTW.

Harcourt St last night about 3am... there was a FB and 2x AMB outside the place 2 doors down from Coppers. I just assumed (as there was no smoke) that the FB came as they are often first responders to a medical incident.

Coppers is not bad at all... I am sick and tired of hearing people complain... These same people end up in Coppers regularly!!!

I like Coppers and I HAVE NO SHAME SAYING IT!!! :D

I'm sick of people saying "I'm sick of people bashing Coppers" - they have an opinion, get over it. I really don't understand why they should change their opinion to that of the people who like Coppers...

    Interesting point, now for rebuttal:

Coppers is a toilet, the only people that like it are culchies and virgins

    Virgins go? Now I'm devastated

ive never been to coppers or heard about it tbh. Im just wondering, the people that said its a s**t hole etc, how do ye know???? You can't judge a place from being there once so Im assuming ye went back again after the first visit????! It wasn't such a **** hole if you frequented the place more than once.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37,214 ✭✭✭✭Dudess

Of course you can judge a place after one visit - and maybe some people get dragged there by their friends.

i disagree about judging a place from one visit, say ur in langtons in kilkenny and its full of a drunk hen night gone bonkers. Langtons is usually good but that night u visit u get the impression of drunk hens.

So you're gonna dismiss their opinion if they've only been there once, but then call them a liar if they've been there more than once?!

its just my opinion u cant judge a place from one visit. im not getting into a debate about it. its just my opinion.

With all they hay on the floor in coppers it's bound to go up some day

Why do the people that hate the place so much want it to burn down?

That would just mean that whatever it is that you hate so much now has to go somewhere else for their nights out. If you really hate it so much then surely you don't want the Coppers customers turning up at wherever you are currently going?

Well then it's not a fact, so I don't see how you can apply it to everyone else.

Coppers is brilliant for looking at culchies in their natural habitat, still don't understand why supermacs haven't set up shop beside it, they'd make a killing.

coopers is the only decent place to go out regulary in dublin. its not for some people, i.e. ponses, people who want to sit down and drink wine and have a chat about the price of the dollar, people who are up their own a*s or people who are too good to mix with the common people.

its for people, the real people of ireland who just want to go out, get locked and have a laugh. its the most popular nightlcub in dublin and shock shock, dublin people, and lots of them, go there too. the drink is cheap compared with some other clubs and the music and the laugh is generally good. if coppers happened to close, the nightlife in dublin would take a hit.

the talent is always decent there, a good mix of everybody, not just nurses, not just cops, not just students and culchies, everybody. the one beautiful thing about is, very few scankers and scobers go there and nor do the upper class d4 snobs who go a few doors up the street.

To actually answer the OPs question, I took a spin up round there earlier (Africa day was also on in Iveagh Gardens) No obvious external signs of a fire and the hotel was open, as was the upstairs area of coppers. Last night I imagine was very busy, (I wasn't out) with the match and all, i wouldn't be surprised if there was a problem with overcrowding or drunken fights, the odd bin fire for good measure and the like. Maybe that was it?

Great idea, at least there's a chip van outside Flannery's!

I absolutely hate that place. A good few of my friends love it there. Grand. Just don't bring me.

So, it didn't burn down then?

I like wine and I have an interest in Economics that includes following the foreign exchange markets. I enjoy going to Coppers. Go figure.

Right. So are you implying that the other major venues of Dublin are for people who are not as real and authentic as the pure-Irish clientele of Coppers? Oh, and getting locked is usually not the best way to enjoy a night out. I like to remain coherent and aware of what I'm doing.

Yeah, dem townies only drink to show off, no-one actually likes it. And how is discussing exchange rates any different to talking about d'price of milk at de craymery?
