No doubt the argument for the closure is that it will save money.

Is it possible to work out how much extra this will cost the country over a lifetime if the corrective procedures aren't taken out in time, and show that it's not really saving any money.

Is it worth considering emigrating up north or UK to avail of health care there ?

Try and get some politicos such as Joe Higgins involved in this. He's running for the Euros this time around, but he's not afraid to get stuck into the current Government.

I know it's been said lots in this thread but it bears repeating. This is a massive fcuking disgrace.

I'm going to email Mary Harney about this. My blood is boiling.

The HSE can find 120 million to give our already extremely well paid Consultants extra back pay, lose 50 million more without any explanation, ****ing wasters. Hearney is hopeless, things have gotten way worse since the present shower took over.Hearney is more concerned with helping her friends build private hospitals on state owned land.
You and all of us behind you will drive the message home in every public way possible.

So sorry to hear that...there really aren't the words to describe your situation are there? The sick and children should be the very last ones to be impacted on by money-saving measures, your poor daughter is being treated incredibly badly by the govt.

Lazy journalists have used boards.ie in the past for articles and so forth, maybe they'll find this and print something worth reading. Maybe get this thread stuck to highlight it.

I don't understand why they insist on hitting all our vital resources healthcare, schooling etc yet they keep giving themselves holidays, bonuses, massive pay cheques that are equal to 3 years of our wages. I just don't get how they can think all this is OK. :(

What has the childs doctor said?

They're closing the ward, that doesn't mean they're not going to do the treatment anywhere else.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,813 ✭✭✭TPD

Really sorry to hear that Biggins, I can't imagine what you're going through. I'm going to email a link to this thread to every TD, councillor etc I can find.

Yes, something like ...I'll do things my way.........Well, here's one example of the outcome of such leadership.

    Biggins,

I am sorry to hear you are having such a bad day. With the response from fellow boardsies I hope it makes you and your wife feel even a little better.

If we let this thread run until Monday and then do as TPD suggests and if we all e-mail the link to as many relevant people as possible. Surely that should do something? It's worth a try..

I know others have suggested travelling up north or to the UK... I don't see why you should have to do that when the service is already available and working!

    Hi,

Could you please read this post on the public message board boards.ie, and tell me why this is happening?

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055566501

I know we are in a recession, but this is ridiculous.
We can spend €60 million on an elaborate new bridge, yet we cripple children for life to save a €10 million.
We bail out banks for billions, and sell out our future.

I'm emailing this to a lot of people, so please bear with me, but:

If you are in any way responsible for this, or affiliated with anyone who is, please tell me why you are taking potshots at Irish children. If you want to save €10 million, take a pay cut. Sell your second house. Sell your fancy car and buy a bicycle.

If you are affiliated with an opposing party, or have a medium through which you can connect with a large number of people, please mention this. Please get the word out that our government, the ones looking out for our wellbeing, are willing to cripple this young girl and many others so they can continue in their comfortable lifestyles.

This country has become a joke. The punchline is basically just a punch.

    I eagerly await your reply.

I'm about to send that to as many TDs, newspapers, radio stations etc. as I can find. If everybody else can do the same there might be a chance of getting someone to listen.

Jesus my heart fúcking sank when I read this. I'm really at a loss for words for you and your family going through this and all the other families that this and other utter fúcking stupidity rampant in this country at our highest levels(across the political spectrum too).

I watched my own father die in an Irish hospital because of cutbacks and sheer fúcking incompetence. I feel your mixture of anger and pain too. I don't mind admitting that after I buried the man I would have gladly run down many of the people I had to deal with and fight with to get the most basic of care of him in what shouldn't have been his last days. Even now years later, now that the initial shock is well gone I am convinced he would have lived longer and gone home to his family if he had been treated in many other countries health system. Medical types in the close family say the same as they work in such countries.

Now he was old and he had lived his life, so that's bad enough, but when they put the health of our children on the line it's a step too fúcking far. Too far.

IMHO faith in politicians is largely pointless. When you have people put forward just because their father was a TD, enough said really. It's beyond pathetic. Our system is utterly fúcked and with a few notable exceptions(the aforementioned Mr Higgins being one, even though I wouldn't always agree with his politics) I think you're on a hiding to nothing.

As others said, shame them into it. Get the media involved. The Joe Duffy's of this world while often smirked at can make a difference. More than your local TD that's for damn sure. Gerry Ryan, the newspapers, TV3 are always looking for a story. Shame these bastards into doing something.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

Is there an answer to this? It's been asked (in one way or another) three times.

I honestly find myself struggling to justify to myself why I love this country when I see things like this. My heart honestly sank when I entered this thread.

Biggins, if you need anything at all done gimme a shout. I'll be forwarding the piece put up in this thread onto the e-mails of the TD's thrown up here.
