It's ok that you don't understand that I was not calling them racists.

Saying someone belongs in stormfront is pre-hetty close enough to calling someone a racist dont you think ?

Ireland do have an immigration policy the only exception we made was to the 10 EU accession states back in 2003. This suited us at the time as we were in need of unskilled workers for jobs that were deemed beneath us. Now that things have gone a bit tits up we want to close shop. Why?? It's not like these extra 9900 people in 4 months (if the current immigartion figures continue) are going to seriously **** up the country plus we have yet to get stats of how many of immigrants are doing an about turn and heading home so this policy that Libertas are proposing is just populist bull****.

Why was that poster banned - because he/she didn't agree with you?

I thought this was a discussion board not for moderator to push their opinions down our throats?

No, what I am saying is that this should be posted to the lowest common denominator, agreeing with TheBlock and DrBollocko.
    It's a barndoor situation.

    ...

What will Libertas' policy actually involve? How do they plan to about face? Where's the meat in this rabble rousing sandwich of theirs? Seceding from the EU? Do they have any actual plans to back the rhetoric?
... so this policy that Libertas are proposing is just populist bull****.
I'm not saying its racist. Im simply saying its nonsense.

And the same moderator him/herself saying
"Temporarily closing up shop aha, **** off to stormfront where they love you. "

is not ? Thats the most glaring double standard I have seen on here as far as I can remember.

Agendas being bandied about pretty forcefully here, while my own question remains unanswered

Again, this is all very interesting.

Interesting that none of the posters with the Liberal-Left outlook have yet answered this very simple question.

    Very interesting indeed.

The poll options are a bit stupid.

Anyway if it wasn't for our legal EU 'immigrants' then Ireland would hardly have any foreigners.

Remember the British are the highest number of immigrants in this country.

    I asked him

Do you think the countries who already restrict immigration from these countries are Stormfronters?

Instead of answering, he sets an agenda.

You don't posses any economic foresight do you?

    Quite a bit actually, thanks.
    SWL wrote: »

And you are completely missing the point - the Irish in Australia had to apply for a visa, the Australian authorities decide who arrives and lives in their country, not the other way round.

My point is the majority of Irish in Australia are doing either menial jobs that they wouldn't do at home or are working construction/mining. Bring the guys doing menial jobs home and you wouldn't see them take up that work here as they'd deem it too below themselves. Hence a hole in the economy for cheaper low level labour which we get from abroad.

My point was that due to emigration and a lack of experts within the economy the Irish economy is dependant on importing trades and professions into the country. Highlighted mostly within the construction industry and health services.

We opened up the border to prove to the EU how great we were as Europeans while the larger states sat back and had a good laugh at our naive idiotic behaviour.

The major accession states started joining the EU around 2004, these states included Latvia and Lithuania which you might recognise as the source of a huge number of immigrant workers.

From around 2002 you could see a steep growth in the property market, an open economy allowing these workers to work within it would have been necessary to keep up with the demand for property. In fact, from 2004 on, you'll see those trends growing massively.

More work = need for more workers, pretty basic concept tbh.

Every dog on the street knows that the property bubble in Ireland was caused by speculative buying, cheap credit and a complete hands off approach from the central bank and regulatory processes of the country as well as a few winks from ZanuFF.

I wouldn't get too caught up in the argument that more migrant works = need for more houses.

500,000 Irish plus on the dole and you are telling me no of them will drive a bus, work in hospitals ect. Now that is a load of bollocks

Not all of them deem driving a bus work that they should have to do. Most of them have been laid off in the last 3-4 months and have expertises they'd prefer to put to work and will put to work abroad. Not everyone can work in a hospital. Being an aircraft maintenace worker doesn't mean you can maintain heart machines. Within this global economy people go where people can get jobs and you'll see Ireland empty out more over the next few years. We'll need migrant workers to fill the gap that our own workforce have left.

    Yep.

    Typical Liberal-Leftist attitude.

"Anyone with Conservative/Right views is an idiot"

Well screw you Liberal-Leftists, it is your politics that re-elects Fianna Fail and got us into this mess in the first place, you idiots. :)

Abuse of moderators powers, the same moderator who himself abused a poster; my advice is to MAN THE **** UP if you can give it you should be able to take it.

Except libertas did not say 'shutting up shop' at any point in the proceedings.

The person who said that and who your comment '"Temporarily closing up shop aha, **** off to stormfront where they love you. " was directed at is the same person you just banned.

One word answer to your question Des. No

But those countries made that decison at the outset in 2003 we didn't. I have already explained why I believe this is populist claptrap from Libertas

Of the 29000 figure quoted official figure reveal that 9900 (1/3) of them were from the 10 new member states.

We do not know how many immigrants from these countries have returned home.

What jobs are these immigrants filling do Irish people genuinely want to work them?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

No you read from it what you wanted to read.

What do you think of the countries who already practice the restrictions on immigration proposed for Ireland by Libertas now?

A straight answer will do fine.

For that matter, can anyone opposing this proposal answer that?

    I'm still waiting. :)

So if I use the same phrase as somebody I have to refer to them. Frankly I had no idea who used the phrase nor do I care.

Ireland made a decision six years ago, so now we are stuck with it?

    Really?

Even though the EU Rules allow us to change it?

    Really?

Get real here. It suited us at the time, it doesn't any more, so why not change it?

Interesting to see that the numbers of people in the poll in favour of closing off the borders to further immigration outnumber those against by a ratio of 2 to 1.

It's a pity that all the comments in this thread, like every other thread that involves subjects like immigrants or dole spongers, are coming from irrational, idealistic leftists with their heads up their arses and who assume that anybody with an anyway conservative or common-sense stance on the issue is a racist or idiot.
Its seems lots of the people who voted in the poll arn't bothered to give their opinion because they know they'l be blasted by those who want to see the job-market further flooded with jobseekers for some reason.
