Ireland do have an immigration policy the only exception we made was to the 10 EU accession states back in 2003. This suited us at the time as we were in need of unskilled workers for jobs that were deemed beneath us. Now that things have gone a bit tits up we want to close shop. Why?? It's not like these extra 9900 people in 4 months (if the current immigartion figures continue) are going to seriously **** up the country plus we have yet to get stats of how many of immigrants are doing an about turn and heading home so this policy that Libertas are proposing is just populist bull****.

Libertas once again pandering to the idiot classes.

My point is the majority of Irish in Australia are doing either menial jobs that they wouldn't do at home or are working construction/mining. Bring the guys doing menial jobs home and you wouldn't see them take up that work here as they'd deem it too below themselves. Hence a hole in the economy for cheaper low level labour which we get from abroad.

My point was that due to emigration and a lack of experts within the economy the Irish economy is dependant on importing trades and professions into the country. Highlighted mostly within the construction industry and health services.

Not all of them deem driving a bus work that they should have to do. Most of them have been laid off in the last 3-4 months and have expertises they'd prefer to put to work and will put to work abroad. Not everyone can work in a hospital. Being an aircraft maintenace worker doesn't mean you can maintain heart machines. Within this global economy people go where people can get jobs and you'll see Ireland empty out more over the next few years. We'll need migrant workers to fill the gap that our own workforce have left.
