wait a minute, did you just say that the average joe doesnt have access to food and water and tractors and guns and slash hooks etc:confused: Man are you a homeless guy in dublin city:pac: Man come to the country, we have nothing but tractors, lets plough those bastards into the ground :D

but seriously, the whole big cage idea is a must, in the same way as the Redeker plan, to lure the zombies to a killing area, and also to allow surivors time and space to plain and build long term defences.

no my friend.... your was an epic fail :P

i love this thread so much. the ideas people do come up with.
    :D:D:D:D:D

Ok I know its fun to have a big elaborate plan but it can be much simpler. Rather than chancing your arm with a plane or helicopter just get a boat as it is a lot easier to drive without prior experience.

Also instead of goign in search of weapons, rations etc simply go to an army barracks og your choice. you are bound to find something useful there. it will be more than likely abandoned due to the whole "theres a zombie in my kitchen " issue faced by half the country at this stage.

Now that you have a the essentials head to the west coast on your boat, handily avoiding all zombies. you are heading for any one of the inis islands. they are isolated, have housing, food and all other things you may come to need (although they may be 1950's-esque). When you reach the island you will be faced with one of two things.
    i) the zombies have somehow gotten to the island by other means of transport as it is very unlikely they could swim, or even know where to swim to.you will then have to proceed to whipe out the infected locals and burn their bodies.
ii)the locals have not been chewed up and welcome you with open arms (especially when they notice your nice big guns).

you are now safe. start growing crops and get on with your life for the next 3 or so years, long enough for the zombies to decay and inanimate(dead isnt the right word). after that you can systematically take back ireland, town by town.
    :pac::D;)

    1. that is actually quite an elaborate plan :P
2.boats are usually hard to use if you dont have keys :P less your going oldschool tiny boat tiny motor... you'll need more fuel than you can carry to get around the country
3.army barracks.... very unlikely they'll be abandoned, I know its one of the first places I'll go in full uniform to see whats crackin' (also therefore I will ACTUALLY be able to get my steyr) :P
    4. chances are the islanders'll be Z's and if not then they will be very agitated to find ANOTHER mainlander trying to encroach their safety and may kill you on sight... islanders are weird that way :)

The problem with island life is it's hard to grow our normal foods there. The Atlantic winds and salty air are not good for most but the hardiest plants. This will mean constant trips to the mainland.

All people could think about is WEAPONS?
Very violent ways... tsk tsk. hehehe.
You have to include food and water to your storage too...
How could you ever survive if you have nothing to eat.
You'll eat yourself to death!

Ha Ha some mad ideas on this! But I'm bored in work and going to see how I could realistically do it! Given a few hrs prep.

Hmmmm Load up the Land Rover Defender already has maps, spare tyres / maintenace kits ,Roof Storage Unit, Snorkel, Swivel Light,Bullbars(...if have the time I'd weld some lengths of steel into a cow plow, reinforce weak points - Mesh grid over windows etc.).

    Power
Raid shell Fill up and hoard fuel in jerry cans...

Raid the whole-saler. Batteries Lots of batteries. Portable generator, Solar powered battery pack.

    Food

Ration packs, dried meats, tinned foods and vegetable/ Fruit seeds to sew in order to be sustainable if your in it for a long haul.

    Entertainment-

Boredom and restlessness will make you restless / crazy.
Porable batt. op DVD player with a few boxed sets. Board Games and few books. Few jonnies (No point in surving Z-Day and dying of aids or syphilis ;o) Few bottles of Bushmills.

    Weapons

My trusty Suhl Side By side shot gun, usually have a carton of 4's / 5's shells around. Should do nicely to clear a path.

.22 CZ Shillouette Rifle to put a bit of lead through the Z-Heads head. Go for the eyes!

For upclose and personal my primary would be a crowbar (dual purpose for raiding) and have the samurai sword that brought back from gran canaria for slicing!
Wish I had a Chain-saw but nearest thing I have is an old weed whacker :( .

    Comms
Lidl Walkie talkies, chemical snap lights (also for raving at the survivors disco), Hi-Vis vest for signaling / ID. Wind up radio.

    Clothing

Situation Dependent...For defending / making sh*te of Zombies / Raiding.
Kevlar - reinforced Leather Motorcycle gear, kevlar gloves and fashion a collar to protect neck. An old hurling helmet with perspex sheet inserted to protect face from splash back. Lowa Mountain Boots.Tac-Vest. Head / Clip on Dynamo torch. Respirator (to slip on when raiding buildings to insulate from smell).

For everyday wear a toga and elton john sunglasses...why the hell not?!

    Route

Head out to Gormanstown Camp (stay off the motorways). As a staging point / temporary strong hold. Isolated, has an armoury full of guns and ammo! Easily defendable assembly point for survivors. When there get my hands on a GPMG failing that a Steyr will have to do.

From their launch recce's out into the country-side to gather supplies find a smaller compound to go firm on and ride it all out.
