In theroy you could say the criminal justice bill (it is written) would be Blasphemous against Rastafarians as it demonizes part of their religion.

Would I be correct in my thinking?

Funny this all comes about a few weeks after someone draws a few pictures of Brian Cowen which he didn't like.
Unless your opinion of Brian Cowan is far, far higher then mine - I wouldn't worry.

Pighead deserved that. drunkmonkey you're right, Pighead should have read the OP instead of getting all smarmy with AnonoBoy. In future Pighead vows to thoroughly read all OP's before wading in with his big size 10's.

Now back on topic, have they found a cure for this horrible Swine Flu yet?

Dermot Ahern always seemed like a fair & level headed guy, compared to most politicians.

I can't believe he's pushing this legislation through.

What about documentaries about evolution etc... will they be considered blasphemous and banned?

Ireland is a privately owned site, there is no right to freedom of speech. Read the FAQ FFS.

Are you suggesting that God isn't capable of coming up with the concept of evolution? Cos that's blasphemy that is!

I think that most of you will find that blasphemy is a very high standard.

    Fr. Ted - Not blasphemous.
Pope Town (or whatever that crap cartoon that Channel 4 made was) - probably.

Documentaries about evolution - Doubt it.

You must remember that the courts will be the ones determining exactly what blasphemous means, and they will probably set the bar very high.

I was talking about this last night during my weekly orgy with Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed and the "virgin" Mary.

"I think it's a great idea," Jesus piped up as his testicles tickled my chin. "Nothing I hate more than blasphemy."

"I agree," replied Mohammed as he inserted a double-ended dildo into a laughing Buddha.

Mary remained silent. Well, it is hard to talk when you're.......

    etc. etc. etc. etc.

Come and get me Mr. Ahern.

if this law means i dont get to see pure genius posts like these then they can lock me up with the bishop and throw away the key

Has he taken into account people who are grossly offended by religious teachings and would consider them blasphemous?

Jaysus - we don't live in Texas. I don't think it'd go that far.

But can I make up a religion where Glen Hansard is the devil and then call it blasphemy any time one of his songs comes on the radio? That'd be decent.

None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free

Well it's a step towards that way of thinking

I can see this proposed law being extended beyond that which its primarily intended for.
The thin end of the wedge.

This is great for minority religion like for example satanists. Every other religion blasphemes against satan, so they can have every other belief holder arrested. Then get arrested themsellves for blaspheming against god et all, thus leaving Ireland for the atheists/agnostics. I very much like.:D:D:D

Seriously though - does that mean we can not say that Scientology is a family splitting, money raking/scamming organisation, a "Religion" which is really a consortium of full time private hired goons, hired American cops, full time investigation unit (Clearwater), an organisation that intimidates and bullies, a religion that for some reasons needs a sea military unit (Seaorg')...

In other words does this law mean that soon we cannot say that its a crock of bullcrap!

Is Scientology recognised as a religion in Ireland?

In Ireland, the Church of Scientology has not been successful in its attempts to achieve tax-free, charitable status in Ireland

It's not recognized as a religion in the statute book,

    You can be from
    The Church of Ireland
    The Preysbertian Church in Ireland
    The Methodist Church in Ireland
The Religious Society of friends in Ireland
    Jewish

and basically any other religion that was around before 1972..I don't think Scientology would count, you can mock them all you want*

*(i could be wrong on all the above)

I presume this is some sort of response to the UN's push for anti-blasphemy laws. It's basically to protect Islam. Once you criticise religion in general i guess you'll be alright.

Xenu was/is (never really existed) the 'bad guy', who stacked the space planes up before setting off the a-bombs...I think. Therefore they may not have a problem with you slagging him off, just in mentioning him to people who haven't paid for the privilege of knowing.

That was a group within the UN, not the general assembly or the UNSC. As such it has no weight whatsoever.
