"We've never seen the Undertaker submit or tap out"

    That can't be right, surely?!

The referee has never seen him tap anyway.;)

Just finished watching it earlier on (as an aside if anyone can identify the song prior to ppv on the simpsons ad, i'd be grateful, it's driving me mad!)

Anywho, while it definately disappoints compared to prior mania's, it was still a good ppv imo.

    MITB

What really was the point in having mark henry in the match when he obviously couldn't climb the ladder or the turnbuckle? Decent match, a few blown spots but i was kinda underwhelmed that punk won.

    7/10

Have to put up with celebrity moments like kid rock at WM. He wasn't that bad either.

    Diva's Match

As most people have said, there wasn't much point in inviting past divas back when they aren't introduced or hardly even mentioned by the commentators. Enough of the santino bashing already, if he is being booked to look like a fool there isn't much he can do about it!

    3/10

    Legends Match

I don't think jericho came out too badly from this match in that he did beat the 3 legends as he promised. Steamboat was fantastic, he really could put alot of the current roster to shame.

    6/10

    Hardy v Hardy

Good match but it was basically a spotfest. One has to wonder how good it would have been if they had to wrestle traditionally. Looks like the fued is set to continue, it would do no harm to put Christian into the mix perhaps.

    7/10

    JBL v Mysterio

Was not looking forward to this match and they kept it short thank god:D
JBL is a far better commentator than wrestler so its all good.

    2/10

    Taker v HBK

    10/10

Nuff Said. Both men were equally fantastic.

    Cena v Show v Edge

I think that anything that followed HBK vs. Taker was going to be an anti-climax and this was.

    7/10

    HHH vs. Orton

I really expected more here, they concentrated way more on the bulid up than the end product.

    6/10

So thats 48/80 or 6/10 average.... not good but i'm still glad i ordered it.

So glad I didn’t part with my hard earned money for that pi$$ poor card.
The cheek of them charging €22 in these hard times for that unimaginative, seen it all before tripe, and on it's so called anniversary night too.
Roll on Lockdown, at least it’s been about 15 years since we seen Sting and Foley go at it! ;)

WTF was the point of the diva match - no introductions (i didnt know who was who) and how come no one noticed or mentioned Santino - what a load of farce !

Were you listening to the commentary at all? They made a few tongue in cheek references to an "unknown diva" in the pink skirt.

Oh please, in fairness, most people spend about three times that amount on booze, nightclub entries and taxis in one night on a weekend in these "hard times". The yanks have it worse having to fork out about 50 dollars over there.

And if you think times are hard now? Don't turn on the TV, radio or look at a newspaper today, Cowen's second mini budget in six months is to be announced.

    Match of all time contnder.

You cannot say that the day aftere the match happens. If it holds up in a year or two, yes. Thats not to say it was not a great great match to match. Easily the best 2009 match so far this year.

People still think its 2006? Despite putting on some cracking main event matches over the years and jobbing himself silly, his detractors will never give him any credit.

Perhaps some of his detractors just do not like his style, do not like his promos, do not like the fact he is esseintially a cartoon character. I have never liked him. Cannot see that changing any time soon either.

    Here's what i find hilarious.
People knew the card wasn't up to scratch and that it was going to be basically a one match card. Knowing this for weeks prior to the show.

And still, they're unhappy with it. Ok, opinions are opinions and each gets respected.

No, every opinion should not get respected. if an opinion is wrong, it is wrong. End of story. Hitler had an opinion once as well, or be to more topical, the governments opinion was that it was a good idea to bail out the banks. Does not make those opinions right, or makes them respect worthy.

Anyway, all that aside, I did not think that was completely horrible. That being said, I just did not watch the title matches. I enjoyed MITB, but was a tad annoyed that Shelton has been involved in all of them so far (I think?), and I am pretty sure he has made about 2 efforts to ever get up the ladder.

The Hardys match was kind of crap, lets face it. Extreme rules as their first one on one is plain silly. That said, the right man went over, as it prolongs the feud. It shows that Jeff has learned nothing - that he continually goes for the big risk, and it rarely pays off. A loss for Matt would have been far more damaging to him than how much a win would have benefitted Jeff.

The IC was funny. Reys mask though?

Skipped the Diva Battle Royal for obvious reasons.

The Taker HBK match was stunning. Really was great, and both men totally did everything that was aksed of them. It should have been the main event. This despite the fact that about half way though the match, my copys sound went completely out of sync, about 4-5 seconds out, so I ahd to watch the rest of it with the sound off.

I had zero expectations, so what i saw I more or less enjoyed. Of course perhaps it is hard to take an opinion seriosuly here when I ostensibly ignored pretty much half the card.

And in reference to what someone said earlier, yes JR did say the Hardys won a TLC at Mania. Struck me as being incorrect also.

I wonder did our travellers to the show enjoy it. I would imagine the atmosphere would have made up for any deficiencies the card may have had. I hope for their sake it did anyway.

You are out of line with that comment. Comparing a Pro Wrestling forum to a Nazi Regime is bang out of order. Everyone is entitled to their opinion on this forum, regardless of what YOU might THINK is wrong.

Because christ knows, you've posted enough incorrect stuff here, trying to pass it off as fact. Yet it was dealt with respect in the past, and will continue to be done so. :P

Copped that too, It amused me somewhat.

We've another thread for that. ;)

Finally got to watch most of mania online. couple of random thoughts

Steamboat was excellent but why did Snuka have to be in the match. the poor fecker can barely walk, surely another legend would have been a better idea. Snucka is hardy going to fly from the top rope anymore is he

Loved the " Jericho is so good he reminds me of me" line from Lawlor.

Taker HBK was brilliant. Loved all the near pins of @ the end.

Pissed of i didnt get to see the tag match

    Hardy V Hardy was decent

Triple threat was ok, decent final spot.

HHH - Orton - Meh. way to ruin some of the best promos in a long time Paul. Bury the ****er dont you

end of story?! are you serious? an opinion can never be wrong, thats why it is an OPINION! i think i am one of the only people who are of the opinion that kid rock was great at mania, and while people disagree i dont consider them to be wrong or vice versa! everyone is entitled to their opinion, disagreeing with it is normal and discussing it is the purpose of this forum is it not? if everyone was of the same opinion we would live in a very boring world now wouldnt we?

    Jim Ross on Wrestlemania:

HBK vs. Undertaker: My 16th Wrestlemania experience was highlighted by the best WM bout I can recall broadcasting. The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels bout was simply a classic. Old school approach, a magnificent story, amazing near falls, drama, surprises, intensity, and awesome athleticism were just a few of the memorable attributes of this extraordinary contest. Quite simply, it’s a wrestling match I’ll never forget and I’ve seen plenty of them. I had immense personal respect for both men going into the match but that respect swelled ten fold when this “instant classic” concluded. If any young wrestler doesn’t thoroughly study this one then they are doing themselves a gross injustice.

Borderlining backseat modding. I've already pointed out he was out of order, and infracted him. He didn't need the exclamation point.

I found myself shocked to laugh at a few things Lawler said throughout the night, best line to come out of him in years was "Matt finally got his face on a Wrestlemania poster" after Jeff walloped him with the cardboard poster frame, classic :)

Can't believe I wasted electricity acquiring that.

Is it just me or was the whole Orton HHH feud pointless, it seemed all that happened was HHH kickin the **** out of Orton every week and then he does it again at WM.

I would echo what someone else said about Snuka being in a match, don't understand it. Steamboat on the other hand, wow.

Maybe they expected him to pull out a performance like Steamboat.
And when it came to it, he fell short.

The atmosphere live for the 'Taker/HBK match was something else, I'm not sure how well it came across on TV because I haven't seen it but the electricity in that building during that match was phenomenal. Steamboat = God.

    Here's a thought.

Maybe this is the way the match was booked.

I know when i was looking at it on paper i thought it would come to be Piper at the end.

So maybe having Snuka being so old and frail looking was so when Steamboat got in, the audience would think it would be more of the same.
Which really put Steamboat over more because he was able to over perform.

He has that Hazzy Hazbeen walk on him, although both of them were coked bananas in their prime.

Was watching a bit of the wrestlemania replay there yesterday ... and at the beginning of the event they keep call it the 25th Anniversary of Wrestlemania .... when it's not. It's the 25th Wrestlemania, but it's only the 24th Anniversary of it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,296 ✭✭✭✭gimmick

If you are married 25 years, it is your 25th anniversary. Same applies here I assume

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,153 ✭✭✭Jolt2007

Not at all. You don't celebrate your first wedding anniversary on your wedding day after all. This year might just be a trial run for next when they'll use the 25th anniversary selling point again but with a good card.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,296 ✭✭✭✭gimmick

I see what is being said, But are you married for 25 or 26 years on your 25th anniversary? (or on your 10th or 5th or whatever anniversary).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,315 ✭✭✭✭amacachi

If it's 25 years since you got married it's the 25th anniversary. It's 24 years since the first wrestlemania so it's the 24th anniversary.
Had they called it the 25th annual Wrestlemania they'd have been correct.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 111 ✭✭Black Lead

Allot of people seem to think that 25th anniversary is wrong/incorrect but its right its 25 years since wrestlemania so its the 25th anniversary of the first wrestlemania

No, the first was 24 years ago.
