(I started this thread for news etc for WM 25 but please close mods if there is another - sorry)

So we SCSA in the HOF so no doubt he will be at and involved somehow in WM - i'm guessing he wont be wrestling - maybe as a ref for one of the matches

Mickey Rourke/Randy "The Ram" Robinson V Jericho maybe with Flair in Rourke's corner

Orton won the RR so its more than likely Orton V Cena (hopefully a ironman match). It will be interesting to see how Orton feud with the McMahons will pan out also.

HBK V Undertaker has been rumoured but i think it might be HBK V JBL so i think Taker may work a match with Big Show or Vladimir Kozlov - not too bothered as long as Taker wins and continues his winning streak at WM.

If RVD is back i would love to see him V CM Punk for the IC title

ECW Champion Jack Swagger vs Evan Bourne (hoping he is back)

Also Hardy V Hardy - last man standing or extreme rules match

Not forgetting MITB - Morrison, MVP, Kendrick, Finlay, Regal, Kofi

If Christian isnt back for NWO then surely he will show at WM

While i'd love to see Edge V Christian in TLC for title i think HHH will figure in the match also

Will Taker vs. HBK be good? 68 votes

It will be the match of the night/year and maybe all time

    It could be decent match

Jesus christ man, that would bore the socks off anyone. let them do their own thing in a non stip match.
    JP Liz wrote: »

Whatever about the stip, this would be good, but I reckon they will blow their load on this for NWO and the feud will be forgotten about by WM and both will be in the MITB car crash.

If I were to make a prediction now twould be

    Orton vs. Cena
    Edge vs. Hunter
    JBL vs. HBK
    Taker vs. Austin
    Some **** womens match
    Matt vs. Jeff
Jericho vs. Randy the Ram with Flair
    MITB. *(MVP to win)

What I'd like to have seen would have been

Edge and Christian vs the Hardys vs Miz and Morisson TLC
    Cena vs. Micheals vs. JBL
    Orton vs. Austin
    Jericho vs. Rourke
    Hunter vs. Taker
    MITB
Jack Swagger vs. the biggest star left to put him over (maybe Show)
Bikini contest if women have to be in it

I would be suprised if they put taker with austin.

Austin cant physically go through a match, or if he can it will probably be:

"Glass smashes, austin strutt, jump into ring, trash talk, fingers, followed by a stunner on a jobber, get up, get a pop with 'Hell Yeah'. Salute the crowd, get out".. and thats it.

    And who would go over?

The idea to have Trish Stratus vs Michelle McCool at WM 25 was brought up at one of the more recent WWE Creative Team meetings. This doesn't exacly mean that this will happen but many also felt that Beth Pheonix vs Trish Stratus would be a better idea but others feel that this has already happened with the mixed tag match from last year. The mixed tag match could still be a way to have already made some build up for a Phoenix vs Stratus match.
People feel that Trish is good enough to get a above average match against McCool and to also that the rub from Trish Stratus would help Michelle McCool get more over with the fans. Trish received great reviews from her return to Raw in tag action with John Cena.

Rourke has backed out, he won't be appearing now.
The Associated Press issued the following press release this evening saying Mickey Rourke won't be appearing at WrestleMania after all:

Mickey Rourke won't rumble with WWE superstar

HOUSTON (AP) — A spokeswoman for actor Mickey Rourke says he won't be taking his role as a professional wrestler into a real-life ring after all.

Paula Woods told The Associated Press on Wednesday night that Rourke will not wrestle WWE superstar Chris Jericho at Wrestlemania 25 in April at Houston's Reliant Stadium.

Woods wrote in an e-mail that the Oscar-nominated actor "will not be participating in Wrestlemania. He is focusing entirely on his acting career."

Rourke portrays professional wrestler Randy the Ram in the acclaimed movie "The Wrestler." He made a surprise announcement about the wrestling event Sunday night on the red carpet before the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles.

Rourke had said he was going to toss Jericho "around the ring like tossed salad."

More news on the Hall of Fame
    From PWInsider:
Ric Flair will now be inducting his greatest in-ring adversary, Ricky Steamboat into the 2009 WWE Hall of Fame this April. Steve Austin originally requested Flair induct him into the Hall, but the word making the rounds is that Vince McMahon was unhappy word got out about it and shot that down. There's no word who will induct Austin now as of yet.

Glad that Steamboat is finally going to be inducted :)

It's just a shame that he won't be going in with Savage. Will Flair be inducting him?

I highly doubt that is the end of that. I really doubt Vince would give it air time and send Jericho on 60 minutes or whatever that show was with Rourke just to have him pull out 24 hour later. I reckon that is just a publicitly stunt again.

That sucks. I was gettin excited about that. I wonder if the plan was for him to wrestle in character as Ram or a brawl as mickey

What I think it might be.

    Cena vs. Orton
    Edge vs. HHH
    Hardy vs. Hardy
    Taker vs. Umaga
    HBK vs. JBL
    Jericho vs. Rourke
Morrison vs. Benjamin vs. Finlay vs. Christian vs. Punk vs. Regal vs. Mysterio vs. Kingston - MITB
    Swagger vs. Big Show
    Phoenix w/ Santino vs. Trish
    Austin vs. Kozlov

There are one or two matches too many there so i think the ECW or Womens match will be dark or very short and Austin/Koslov is only i shot in the dark... I think Jericho is wasted fueding with Rourke... maybe they should throw him Santino, could make good viewing and it's not going to make santino look any worse by losing.

I'm not sure how Christian will fit in. I can't see Hardy vs. Hardy ending at NWO so perhaps it could be a 3 way at Mania... Can't really see it being Edge vs. Christian either even though i would love to see it.

    What i'd like to see.

    Orton vs. Cena
    Edge vs. Christian
    Taker vs. HHH
Hardy vs. Hardy - Extreme Rules
    HBK vs. JBL
    Santino vs. Rourke
MITB... As above really with y2j in the mix!
    Swagger vs. Big Show

I'd imagine that Austin will Stunner all the other Inductees on the stage to keep the crowd happy, ideally I'd like to see a heal HBK face off against him, but I don't think there's time to do that.

If Jerricho doesn't get the matchup against the Ram he'll be thrown into main event, also, Big Show will get pay back for jobbing last year

No Hardy V Hardy match at NWO so i'm guessing it will happen at WM

On the Rourke situation, I'd be almost certain that once the Oscars are over he'll be announced again. Apparently appearing would have severely hurt his chances of winning if it was set in stone before hand

    That could be the reason.

Id say after the oscars we'll have jericho on raw to give out how rourke is a pussy etc etc, and then he could appear in the arena or something to that affect.

It has to be some sort of set up..

I doubt he would agree, he will get a ton of cash I imagine and lots of exposure which is great as he has said he wants to move into acting once his wrestling career is over. If he does not go through he will probably end up in the car wreck that is MITB, perform a few spots lie about in the ring for 20 minutes and lose. I dont see that doing much for his career at all.

I haven't been in the loop long enough to make reasonable predictions but what I would like to happen would be something like...

    Randy Orton vs John Cena

This is what the Mania main event should have been a year ago had SuperHunter not messed things up with his damn ego but funnily enough I'd see it being similar enough to WM22's main event which didn't disappoint from an entertainment standpoint.

    Edge vs Matt vs Jeff

I think you could put the three of them together and it would be an action-packed match. They could continue the Jeff/Matt thing and also play up Matt and Edge's history. Throw in a Lita appearance at Mania and maybe a face-off with Vickie and it would be pretty sweet. Won't happen but I like it!

    Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels

It's been a while since these two faced off and with it being in Texas I think it would be a really great match.

Vince McMahon w/Chris Jericho vs Stone Cold w/Triple H

SuperHunter would love to be back on Raw and with his history with Vince you could pair him with Austin. I'd also have Stephanie and Shane be in Vince's corner too. I would then have SuperHunter turn on Austin and leave him laid out. Suddnely amidst all the boos we hear..."If ya smellllll..." and the place goes ape-sh*t as Rocky returns to lay the Smackdown on the McMahon-Helmsley faction one more time. Austin recovers hits a few stunners and wins the match. Afterwards the two of them drink a beer in the ring and JR talks about it being a Wrestlemania moment.

Yes I'm aware this crosses the line into unrealistic fanboy territory but again I can dream! Actually if Rock is inducting Austin and Austin is involved at Mania then maybe an appearance by The Great One is very possible.

I wouldn't care too much about the undercard although I'd like to see MVP win MITB. Not sure how likely that is though as...

It looks like Rourke will still be at Wrestlemania anyway if this is anything to go by...

    E!Online:
UPDATE: WWE honcho Vince McMahon tells E! News that Rourke will still be in Houston, even if he's not in a leotard: "I am pleased that Mickey Rourke will be in attendance at WrestleMania to support the WWE Superstars who support him and the film in which he stars, The Wrestler."

I really looked at that as getting to see Mayweather for the price of admission the same with Snoop I know it wasnt a Mayweather fight but I thought it was a nice little bonus as it turns out the match wasnt too bad either, but mayweather is pretty atlethic and put a good bit of effort in

Like many have said, I'd love to see another Taker v HBK match up. It's been so........... long now. Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't their last match 1 vs 1 at Royal Rumble 98. The Casket Match were Kane betrays Taker, puts him in the casket and sets it alight? (They have a few minutes 1 vs 1 in the Rumble match a couple of years ago and I remember the fans going nuts during those all too brief minutes).

Well over 10 years then, jaysus lol. God that makes feel old :pac:
Back on topic both had a very good feud/storyline going in mid to late 97. Something I very much enjoyed.

I just question how they will build/re-ignite a feud between the two?
The Rumble was the perfect time, HBK helping JBL to the title thus gaining entry into the Rumble and then knocking out Taker in a fairly dodgy manner or something along those lines... that was the time.

No it is passed I just can't see it coming to fruition now. Sadly for all the fans.

I just hope in relation to Taker he is given some cannon fodder in the shape of Big Show(can't be arsed with that one anymore and going by Smackdowns Spoilers it doesn't look that way) or boring Vladimir Kozlov.
At the silver jubilee of WM, he and Michaels deserve all so much more...

    Thats exactly what i meant.

    The set up is perfect.

Two huge stars, both in their own state, each with the reason to win.

Reasons that go beyond titles or championships.

The chance to have a step above the other when they both go down in history.

    ...its pretty epic.

    But will wwe do it?

    probably not .

I don't see Taker vs. HBK happening... i think that they'd need a slow build up starting at the rumble... the brief encounter between them at the rumble makes it interesting but i just can't see it happening unfortunately. If it did, i could see it being the match of the card, year maybe.

    What I expect to happen
Super Hunter v Edge –Anybody who thinks Super Hunter is not regaining his title at mania is very naive.
    Cena v Orton
    HBK v JBL
    Jericho v Rourke
Taker v Kozlov or Umaga or Show
MITB –Kofi, MVP, TBK, Evan, Carlito, Primo, Kane, maybe Punk?
    Matt v Jeff
What I want to see though...
Cena v Orton – Raw Title
Edge v Jeff v Matt v Christian – Battle Royale for the Smackdown title
Regal v JBL V Punk – Intercontinental belt
    HBK V Taker...
    Jericho v Rourke....
Swaggar v Evan v Morrison v Miz – No DQ match for the ECW Title....
MITB – Kofi, Umaga, TBK, Carlito, Primo, Shelton, MVP, and Kennedy (He has to do something)....
Hornwoggle v HHH –Cage match, Horny wins cleanly!:D

I personaly dont like the idea of rourke appearing at mania as I think having Wrestlemania based on a celebrity is pathetic....Esspecialy considering they always end up being victorious. Trump beat Mcmahon and Mayweather beat The Big Show. Rourke getting a victory over Jerico, will not impress me one bit and I hope to see Jerico compete in a good match.

If you look at the likes of the superbowl, that has celebrities all over it like a rash!
The wrestlemania show IS the superbowl of the sports entertainment world.

So its only fitting to emulate that idea of being an example to the entertainment world who would never bother with a "fake sport".
For example, i seen an MTV 'Update' earlier on that had a bulletin about "the wrestler star mickey rourke has pulled out of appearing of the 25th anniversary of wrestlemania".

I dont think i would ever see on mtv, "Royal Rumble results"...
    Its all about the publicity

It wouldn't be much of a conflict with Mickey Rourke and Santino. That's what they are looking for. Jericho would seem to fit the bill in that regard.

The way Santino's currently being perceived he'd be more suited to a feud with Mickey Rooney.

    Awesome :D

Yeah going back to the Rourke vs Jericho match up. Like someone said earlier, it's such a waste of Jericho's ability and time to put him in such a match. At the very least he should be in the MITB match. Would love to see him win it too.

jericho obviously has a purpose of being in this match, like why wouldnt they just get someone like umaga, or MVP, or Santino even?

    **edit**

    Guess its not happenning now...

The buzz grew to a deafening pitch recently as the relationship between Mickey Rourke and WWE has become the subject of a great deal of speculation: Is the star of the critically-acclaimed film "The Wrestler" participating in the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania or isn’t he? Will the actor, who won a Golden Globe for his performance, be in attendance or not?

Much of the conjecture began following Rourke's appearance on CNN's Larry King Live Tuesday night. Before Chris Jericho dropped by via satellite and exchanged words with the actor, Rourke told the cable interviewer that he had "tremendous respect" for WWE's Superstars and would like to attend the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania in Houston on April 5. “I want to do anything I can,” said Rourke, “to support those guys.”

Shortly after Jericho interrupted the star's appearance on Larry King Live, a publicist for Rourke, an Oscar nominee for his role as Randy “The Ram” Robinson, wrote an e-mail to the media that stated he “will not be participating in WrestleMania. He is focusing entirely on his acting career.”

As conjecture continues to swirl, WWE.com has learned that while Rourke will not be participating in the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania in Houston on April 5, WWE has, in fact, invited the actor to the event and looks forward to his attendance – as a guest of the company.

When asked to clarify Rourke’s relationship with WWE, WWE Officials said that they looked forward to the actor being present at WrestleMania.

“We are pleased that Mickey Rourke will be in attendance at WrestleMania to support the WWE Superstars who support him and the film in which he stars, The Wrestler,” WWE Officials explained.

    Apparently they arent now..

Man, everyone pulling out of mania, seems as if orton might have had an idea with halting it :p

This was said by rourke lately:
While receiving the American Riviera award Santa Barbara International Film Festival, actor Mickey Rourke took part in a post ceremony discussion where the subject of Wrestlemania 25 came up. Rourke was quoted as saying "My people suggested it might not be a wise career move." He did say he wanted to do the match, but of course reconsidered when his agents advised against it.
