Quorn ok as a mince replacement?

    Hi all,

    I'm training hard at minute, heavy weights (x 4 sessions each week) plus several interval (hiit) sessions. Aim is to cut body fat, build muscle and be fit.

    I'm eating 6-7 meals a day, each mainly consisting on protein. At the weekends I have been cooking a big pot of say chilli con carne with approx. 1 kg of lean round mince steak. Its very handly to have made and reheat for say 5/ 6 meals on a Sat and Sun.

    However I am consious of having too much red meat - would making the same meal with say Quorn Mince be a good option or is this stuff unhealthy?

    I would go for turkey mince before quorn.

    I think soya protein can cause a rise in estrogen, quorn is made from a fungus, not sure if it has a similar effect.

    That isnt fact, there is no evidence to prove that soya protein/quorn mince causes estrogen levels to rise.

    I dont think there would be anything wrong with you using quorn instead. Why dont you make a few meals and freeze them so you dont feel like your eating the same thing over and over?

    Soya doesnt contain estrogen itself, it contains a plant form of it and studies have also shown that soya reduces the risk of prostate cancer, breast cancer, helps with type 2 diabetes and heart disease. However these benefits are only noticable if soya is consumed throughout your life.
