It was not too long ago that this small high end gaming computer manufacture in Athlone was considered unique and the envy of anyone at a lan party. They made some very tasty looking gaming PC's and notebooks. http://www.alienware.co.uk/main.aspx

When Dell took them over in 2006 people feared the worst, ie mass production, shared components with the main production line, drop in quality, after sales etc.

Now the worst has happened, It look as if they are taking them out of the country and setting them up along with their main production line in Lodz Poland.

Shame, although it has to be said that Alienware were so overpriced it was ridiculous. Never quite understood that move on Dell's part, and I was working there at the time.

I was buying a new monitor today and it was a choice between
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=431103
    or
    http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=ie&l=en&s=dhs&cs=iedhs1&sku=189447
and I must say my decision came down to my disgust at dell laying more people off.

Do you not have any good news to bring us?
It's always doom and gloom with you.

How about an upbeat story the next time?

There was no one killed, It's a current news topic and concerns some of us whether employed or others that have a genuine interest in Lan party PC's.

Personally I never had Alienware, they were overpriced, I could get the same specs for about 1/2 the price if I looked around. I often thought of using one of their older towers and fitting my own components into it.

Anyone that has an interest in "Lan party PC's" would build their own and not buy a rip off, poorly made, glowing eyes, Alienware.

I have an Alienware rig. They aren't exactly disposed to being lugged round the place. The case is bulkier and a bit longer than most. As for price I found the difference not that considerable (v dell, desktop).

    What a Lodz of crap.

As somebody said before, their computers where horribly expensive. Better to build it yourself, I say.

You'd be surprised... most are techies hoping to crack into Eircsson (which is just around the corner) doing support. They see it as a waiting room more than a career.

I think we can safely add "PC's" to the list of things you have 'alternative' notions about.

I remember looking at an Alien ware pc once and comparing the Irish and english alienware sites. The pc was ~ £200 cheaper from the English site, at which point I said fuk this shower of *****. Glad they're gone tbh.

Probably due to the tax differences between UK and Ireland

Sorry about the staff but as the machines go, they were over hyped and even worse, way over priced.

    So is that a question?

They will now have to produce a Celeron range to keep up production. :D

Please, no... let the celeron die a horrible horrible death... :(

They were over priced, they were top of the line though. I normally buy my PC online. I build it myself with what I want, it tends to be top of the line too but not as expensive.

You will never ever need to spend 3-4K on a PC, no matter what you are doing with it.

My last PC cost me about 800 quid. There were a few hickups with the retard company I was dealing with but worth it in the end :)

    Nope, it wasn't.
EDIT: The only thing of envy was the wallet of the guy buying. I worked for Dell at the time they bought AW, and we could knock out a better machine for far less. Bearing in mind that we are discussing "Dell Quality" now, that's something.
