Also if we win by more than 6 clean goals tonight we'll have the 2nd best defence in the league:D

only for our blip in those 2 games against oak tree and full irish, we could have the best defence in it :( . almost half our goals came in the 3 games after christmas :(

Only for our blip we would be league winners.

"If only" the two worst words in football.

We aren't the best defence because we let in goals

We aren't the winners because we lost some games.

These "if only" and "what if" and "yeah but" really annoy me lads, I don't know why.

If only - yeah well, it wasn't.

What if - yeah well, it didn't.

    Yeah but - but nothing.

Next season we cut out the if only, what if and yeah but.

Next tuesday? I know a few of the lads train on Tuesdays but they might skip that for an 11 a side game. I'll put the word around and see what comes back

    Just so people know.

There are two scenarios in my head for this evening

    1. We can actually win the thing, if Glenwood lose by a significant margin. IF this happens, I'll be going with this years squad to go for the win, a proper bash at it, like all during the season

    2. Glenwood Draw/Win, I'll treat this as our first pre-season friendly, and make changes accordingly.

    Howaya again Lads,

Um... so, turns out I will actually be able to go tonight. Didnt need to travel back to Naas as I thought.

Saying that, Ill stick to my plan before all the confusion and bring gear but just in case there are mass leg breakings.

Im usually not so tempremental, I swear.

also, Im driving from Windy Arbour/Dundrum so if anyone needs a lift its handy for me to pick ye up. Might be easier for me to get Homerjay as opposed to someone coming from Sandyford.

The fact remains that if only we had been given that penalty against Glenwood or what if the shot against Coca-Cola hit the M50, we would be winners despite losing some games and conceding some goals. And that remains regardless of whether we are allowed acknowledge it or not. :)

Maybe I'll come out after all, might still have a chance at that top scorer trophy :D:D:D

If you want a friendly, should be able to organise one against either Ravenhill or the eircom team for next week. Drop me a pm and let me know.

    Agree 100%.

Yeah sure we may not have been awarded a penalty against Glenwood. But then again we threw away a 2-0 lead in that game and did not deserve a win. These things even themselves out anyway. The first of our two late goals against Perrem when we won 4-2 came from a handball from yours truly.

We didn't deserve to win the league, end of.

I had a header to win it against Glenwood with ten seconds to go. Think I had a chance to score against The Full Irish when we were 1 nil up. I also could have won the lotto if I had only played it. It's all meaningless as Dave and Des have said. We'll finish second. Just what we deserve.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,346 ✭✭✭✭homerjay2005

lads, yes and no. if we admit our mistakes, then we should hopefully not make them again. lacking concentration in last minute, throwing away a 2 goal lead, conceding from throw ins, etc etc. one simple mistake may have be the difference.

We know that now, even one game next year could make a difference on the basis that if we were to drop only 3 points all year, there would be some other team as good as us that will only drop 2.

As i have said before, how can you honeslty say we didnt deserve to win the league, for all we know Glenwood could have been muck in a shed load of their games that they won and drew and they won alot of games by 1-0. they could have scored all the jammy last minute hand ball goals for all we know.

and before martin you mention we didnt beat them, lets look at the top level. liverpool beat united 2 times this year. arsenal beat united 3 times out of 4 games last year/season before. west ham beat united 2 times the year before. does that mean that each of those 3 teams deserved to win the league that year and not united?

anyway, its all irrelvant now, its in the lap of the gods tonight, lets just go out and win our game tonight and see what happens. we have had a great season, lets be positive about that please and believe that we are good enough to win it, but to achieve that, we need to do a little bit more of the simple things right.

You deserve to win the league if you finish top. 18 games to get it right. Look at our record against the top teams. 1 pt against Glenwood, 3pts against Oak Tree (they had ten men), 3 pts against Full Irish (last minute goal), 1 pt against Ravenhill (play again tonight) So against the top 4 teams in the league we don't have a superior record against even one of them. So that's why we didn't win.

Edit: Just a note to say that against the 5 bottom teams we had 9 wins and a draw. Glenwood have 8 wins and a draw (play Bar Real tongiht). So we have an identical record against the poor sides. So we have no complaints really.

we will have the exact same record as glenwood have against the other 3 teams also martin, if we win tonight. they have 11 points, we will have 11 if we beat ravenhill.

in fact, we have exactly the same record except they beat us. hence the 3 point swing. that night we played them, we had half a team out, dont forget that either. youd swear we were **** the way you go on. the gap is 1 win, not f*cking 20.

Maybe its me chaps but there has been some tension between you 2 for a few weeks now for whatever reason, a lot of the threads seem to degenerate into a moaning match between the 2 of you!

In saying that both of your points always have merit, but its stop to stop bitching and start getting back to playing ball

So does anyone need a lift from Dundrum/Windy Arbour to the match?

Alright lads, unfortunately I'll have to pull out of this.
Was told today my job won't be here in a few weeks so I have a few things to sort out. I'll be there on Thursday though.

    Good luck.

    4-1 win

ciaran (2), dave and Mark for the goals. good win, did our job and made about 10 subs so was a good work out.

glenwood won, 2-1 but looked very poor, its disappointing that they won the league, i would rate coca cola and oak tree as better than them but suppose table doesnt lie, they obviously did something right.

great season, 39 points is a great achievement and well done to all. lets be positive and not dwell on why we didnt win the league, that can be talked about over some berr on thursday, but for now, its all positive and we are on a great run, 8 unbeaten with 7 wins.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,346 ✭✭✭✭homerjay2005

also, well done to ciaran, 13 goals in 14 games is some record. he is joint top scorer and regardless of whether your man played or not, i have a feeling glenwood will add in a goal or 2 for him :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,081 ✭✭✭LeixlipRed

Looks like Des did same for Ciaran :D Good win lads in what were atrocious conditions. Apologies for my Ronaldo-esque hissy fit in the 2nd half there. No excuses for it. I'd be the first to jump on a player for not playing the whistle so I was totally out of order there. No back chat to referees next season for me. Thought Collie looked good when he came on. Always moving and looking to get the ball off the full backs. My mate Eoin done alright. Few nice touches. Looked a bit nervous though. He has great ability on the ball and we're not blessed with many wingers in proportion to other postitions so hopefully he can do a job for us there.

well done on the result and on the season lads. The top scorer thing is a little disappointing but to each their own.

Enjoy Thursday night, and hopefully will get a chance to play against you over the summer.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,081 ✭✭✭LeixlipRed

Oh and (shock horror) I agree with you Ed that Oak Tree and Coca Cola (the first time) were better sides. But Glenwood conceded very few goals so they done something right. And they did have 2 or 3 exceptional players which can make a huge difference.

Good result lads - not at all easy to play in what was effectively a wind tunnel.

The wind was throwing curve balls and I know I for one overcompensated for it a few times and it was on the mind. My point though is that it's hard to assess the new players' ability on the ball in that game, so you can only really focus on what they did off the ball to get in a position to challenge for it and disturb the opposition. On that front, I thought Collie did well as he was in the right place very often and looked a proper midfielder, though he'll have more to offer on it when he settles in.

Maybe a point more for the next season thread and a bit harsh when we've won 4-1, but our defence was sitting bizarrely deep even with that wind behind our backs - if you don't push up when you have that safety net of a wind protecting against a through ball, you never will. Regardless of opinion, the manager was giving the instruction to step up clearly so it needs to be heeded.

I was hanging deep second half waiting for the ball over the top which rarely ever came and the defence were so far away they were beyond shouting distance. They were pushing their defence up massively and playing it out of defence at every opportunity (i.e. playing to the weather) on the deck and were really exposed to the long ball me and Ciaran were screaming for. I can't recall one attempted delivery into the box from any fullback and I think that was something we needed to add tonight, particularly given that the circumstances were screaming for it.

good to see u back man. weve come along way from the last time you were there in that pitch, indeed the last time we played a competitive game there, that 8-0 defeat ;)

will u be making an appearance anytime soon in the squad? i think when you left also, we knocked in 2 more and their keeper pulled off some great saves.

Yeah I remember that Iona game
Sure I'll make an appearance, I'm due a testimonial soon :pac:
