  • Thats exactly what it is like. Anyone who thinks 79eu a month is too expensive is mad. Maybe join for a month for the 89eu and see for yourself?
Have you seen the current gym? Seems a long way from Greystones or is that just where you are from. Are you a rugby player?

Confusius, is that you? I think you found your slogan.
I can see it on the letterheads now.

I think some people are confusing "price" with "value", I could actually start name dropping and tell you the sort of people who'll be training there, but I actually think I'm going to let the gym speak for itself. Suffice to say that this will be unique in that the average person looking to shed a few pounds would be sharing the gym with national and international level athletes. I think that's a unique thing.

  • One quick thing, will there be joining fees or just a straight up monthly fee? Reason I ask is that I'm off two whole months this summer so would definitely commit to a facility like this no problem before I have to go off and do other things meaning I wouldn't be able to use it as much as I'd like!

  • Have you seen the current gym? Seems a long way from Greystones or is that just where you are from. Are you a rugby player?
No I haven't seen the current gym and I'm definitely not a rugby player. Yes it is a long way from Greystones but as I have a good bit of time on my hands til Sept my plan [I think] is to still got to the one in Templeogue a couple of times a week and the one in Glasnevin a couple of times a week. Maybe it won't work out that way, but to be honest that isn't why I posted earlier in the first place.

I know Will for a long time and he isn't really one to be excited like this so what he's planning must be pretty amazing. Also, I've seen him slated here on Boards for no reason that I'm aware of so I just wanted to give them a bit of support. Both guys are putting a lot on the line here, not least their reputations so I think fair play to them.

They get to chase us out of town with torches and pickaxes.

If you're interested in one of the meberships you can mail or call and I'll discuss all the details with you. If you're just interested for internet's sake then just make up your own ending.:)

From the sounds of things you won't have worry because by looks of what Will said on his blog all those memberships have pretty much gone already. A pretty big show of faith from those concerned considering no one knows the exact location (my guess is it is some sort of Bat Cave) let alone even seen the gym. I just think that is amazing that people would fork over that sort of money considering. Don't get me wrong I mean it shows what sort of respect people have for Roper. My only problem being a student is actually laying my hands on €1000 in the first place.

  • There are 4 lifetime memberships left I think. Which is a pretty quick sale considering we only announced it on Saturday morning and 2 of those days have been bank holidays!

Would the specific programmes extend to assessment, physio and corrective exercises? I have this ...eh... friend, his body is FUBARed. He needs major work. :(

If you have space for extra trainers/specialists I'd recommend someone who can advise on nutrition and maybe a sports massuese?

Anyway, nice work on embarking on yet another adventure of stress and hair-loss! I have to see where in the world I end up in a few months but if it's close I'll give you a shout.
Tim FUBARed people are a speciality. Just take a look at my experience of have the world's worst back :D

As for the sports massuese and nutrition people, put them in touch as we have some space available for people like that.

  • I think its a great deal considering its like personal training and you would pay some ass that doesnt have a clue €50/€60 at least per hour..Also have you ever had anyone with all Wills qualifications train you..I know I havnt...and your guaranteed results..Im living proof....Will & Barry are excellent coaches...and this will be a great facility where you wont get anywhere else...Plus there is no joining fee. And I have trained, worked & been a member off numerous gyms and would choose this one without any hesitation..Im also a southsider and have no problem travelling!!

You will be tested, weighed, checked etc all the time with the best designed programme and will have their full attention..you will defintely get your money's worth..even more out off it...I would pay them that for 1 session never mind a months worth and I think anybody that has been trained by these guys and know them will totally agree with me on this..

So I actually think before people start shooting their big gobs off..why not come and see for yourself...Pay the cash for the month..what have you got to loose..train the way your told..eat what your suppose to and you will get results..if you dont and your not happy then give your opinion other than that keep it to yourself.

  • And have also been a member off Jackie Skellys which works out more expensive...the carisile gym..camden court hotel..spheres..westpark..st.catherines...cabra parkside...sheldon park...gym in ballymun..total fitness and westwood (I travel alot:D)...maybe more...have worked in some and would pick Will & Barry anyday as the service is crap in these places..the instructors do not have a clue..you never get results and the list goes on and on and on

So icon14.gif to Will & Barry

To all you's that have too much to say icon13.gif

  • Milly dont be so silly. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, especially here.

  • Opinions are like arseholes as they say.

I've no problem with people criticising what we're doing. We're confident that once people walk in and do some training with us that the criticisms will go away pretty quickly. Everyone is always telling me I've an answer for everything anyway :D

Jimmy Bottlehead since you've been the most vocal critic on here vis a vis pricing, I'm going to beat you up....

Nah I'm kidding but what I am going to do is offer you a free assessment session with us when we open up. Either Will or myself will go through a full Informed Performance test of the type we'll do with GAA players, rugby players etc. and also weekend warriors and people who want to get in better shape. It's very difficult when all we're talking about is numbers and prices to appreciate what it's like to actually get brought to your goals by someone and the real value of that. There's no terms or conditions to this, all you have to do is give me a shout in advance and I'll get it organised. We may even let you do it in April before the gym gets it's official opening. You've pmed me for insulting you before so now all you have to do is pm me about something nice for a change :) No strings attached, I won't even demand that you come on here and yell about it afterwards.

Fookin Nora that is generous!! Why am I so nice - I should have bitched about the price too! I do appreciate the value and you're not talking about just numbers really - but are there any other complimentary assessments going a begging?!

Yes I agree that everyone is entitled to their own opinion...but why don't people give it a go even for the month and see if they are happy then and think its well worth the value and if not then feel free to say so..I think that is fair

  • Will mailed me back this morning at 4.53am? I'm trying to work out if he gets up real early or goes to bed real late? Can't wait to see this place if and when it opens.

You didn't get results because you didn't do your own research and apply it.

Don't be so quick to blame everyone else.

The gym looks like it's gonna be a good one. Best of luck with it guys.

  • Sounds like a first in Ireland.Best of luck!

    NO!

But what we're going to do is have a big open day when it's all done, and anyone will be welcome down at that stage to talk to us about what we can do for them.

Aha! A challenge has been set! :D

I accept! Quite looking forward to it actually. I've not been a critic of anything but the prices, in fairness. And I stand by that until corrected. I'm hoping to be proven wrong actually, as it'd be nice to have a gym with good equipment, atmosphere, and staff with a justifiable price. Its just I can't see the justification yet.

If it all goes ahead, I'll be back with a report. And as stated above, I'm hoping it'll be a positive one. Either way, it will be an honest, unbiased one.

Senor Oglesby, I thank 'ee for thy offer. Hope to report back soon-ish!

    Roper,
I hope you get Will to do Jimmy's assessment. You could sell tickets to that. I can hear the ambulance sirens screaming already.

    Jimmy,
I don't think that Roper has to justify his prices. €20 a week for a facility with a gym, track, boxing ring, mma area, striking area, strongman area, indoor field turf. A place where you get an individual program and are coached at every session, where everyone will be tested every 4-6 weeks? I went in to see Will at his current gym and I met a couple of d guys that are working in d new gym that are former Irish and Leinster rugby players who have trained under Will and are finishing sports college what gym has staff like that? I think it will be a case of every other gym having to justify their prices in comparison.
I'd tell you to email Will and ask for justification of his prices but that would just be cruel. He doesn't seem to be a fan of boards as is.

Being a former professional rugby player isnt necessarily a positive thing to be a strength coach? Some of the strength and conditioning practices in professional rugby are horrendous. (Improving in Ireland though).

I think she says the former rugby players were being coached, as opposed to being coaches themselves...

Yes Vivian. Because I'll get my ass kicked for an internet debate. Well done.

    *slow clap*

Try to remove your lips from the lads' arse before you post next, eh? :)

But being former and current professional rugby players who are also professional rugby coaches and who are both also a certified strength and conditioning coach makes them probably a little bit better qualified than the majority of gym instructors and personal trainers that you'd find in any other gym in Ireland wouldn't you say?

I'd be interested to hear what your experience is in professional rugby?

I love how these internet debates go. It seems to be fine for people to throw around absolutely rubbish criticism but the minute someone says something positive they are kissing ass? Is that how it works?

I'm not even trying to get into a debate here. Just saying I think the comment you are referring to is obviously a joke wouldn't it be fair to say? I also don't think someone saying something positive about Roper should automatically considered ass kissing?

  • I think ye should all shut the fuck up and quit bithcing, this is a thread for a fantastic new structure coming to Ireland, not a thread about ye whiney little internet shits. Get a life and don't drag down this thread any further

You make a fair point, I probably misinterpretated your original point a little bit. If the former players are good coaches, their coaches... end of. To me it doesnt matter if they used to be former players or binmen. If they are players who learn new stuff and can see the horror of some of the stuff they did in the past, all the better.

I dont particularly want to talk about my own experience here. Its an internet forum I could just say whatever the hell I wanted and you would have no idea if it were true or not. Or be completely open tell you all about me but I really dont wish to do that. If I did I would be posting with my real name rather than a generic account name.

I stand by my statement that there are some hideous practices in professional (and AIL standard) rugby strength/con but that it is improving. If you want to debate that fact, go ahead, you can PM me or something.

If you don't mind me saying so, the fact that you're posting this in a thread about a gym that will be putting a rugby development programme using 2 former provincial representatives smacks of an attempt to tar us with that same brush. It might not be your intention, but airing your grievances in a thread about a new gym is just bad form. You're basically associating us with those bad practices.

If you think people from Informed Performance are party to those bad practices, then quit pussyfooting around and come out with it. If you want to do that though you'll have to not hide behind your username as you could basically say anything with anonimity.

If however you were not intending to make some subtle remark on the quality of what will be in our gym, then I think you need to come right out now and state that categorically.

I've both trained and studied alongside both of the guys who will be running the rugby development programme at Informed Performance and I can tell you that they're both quality- in terms of what they can teach and what they can do. More on the guys here

I can state categorically that I was not casting any doubts or making any comments on your facility. I do not know anything about you, not even your real name. I stand by my original comment, but it was a very broad comment based on strength/con practices in rugby in Ireland IN GENERAL.

Sorry if I was misinterpreted but I dont know anything about the rugby player coaches at your gym at all. I was just trying to say that them being rugby players isnt a barometer of them being good coaches. Similarly though, them being rugby players does not mean they are bad coaches.

My comments were broad generalisations (that I believe to be largely true) but again I know nothing about your facility, about you or about the people you employ. I'll check out the link later.
