The thing is, all mods don't agree.
The reason you haven't seen Tar.A in a while is because we both were stranded on an island.
I ate the pig, but he stcuk to his vegetarian beliefs.
I ate him 2 hours before help arrived.
Inis Beag is a harsh place.

If you have a specific problem with any mod, then take it to feedback. This isn't the place for it.

    Just wondering.... :p
Private poll. you're ok for now.

Hmm. Were'nt we looking for a new AH mod?

You're talking a bit too much like that twat jar jar for my liking.
That's the end of that then.

anyone who has ever been banned is going to say yes.
Search feedback for the term "Television" under my name. Was banned from there before I was a mod.
    I voted the third option.

Depends on the forum...I find some of the whole forum charter stuff rather silly to be honest. Sometimes gets to me seeing a mod 'issue a warning' to people in some thread because it goes against the forum charter. Some really need to lighten up. I know there's heavy traffic and all going through the site but if other posters are really that bothered by other peoples posts if they're constantly going against the hallowed 'forum charter' they can report them and the mod can deal with it that way without going all Hitler on peoples asses as soon as they put one wrong word in a post.

Just my take on things, I've been a modding and admining on other sites for years and this place feels like it's run by the nuns and priests at times.
Indeed it does depend on the forum.
By the way, did you mod an Irish based forum and were you subjected to the same limitations the government has put on this site?

I told you the tables, ladders, chairs, midgets, kendo sticks, Gillberg, strap, pile driver, elimination chamber, hell in a cell match was a bit too much.

Depends on the situation, and it's not just on boards for the record... on any forum. ;)

It's catch 22, if moderators are too leniant, then they're not doing their job, if they're being too strict, then they're too harsh. No win situation, and it's been the case for years.

    Just my 2 cents worth.

I find the moderators tend to steer the boards towards their own liberal pinko agenda. I would prefer a little more tolerance towards conservative right-wing temperament.

The mods are fine. It's all these idiots with 6 posts starting 3 junk threads on AH a day that annoy me.

In my day, newcomers were flamed to death until they learned how to act. Good times, and we learnt our place.

Currently banned from the Limerick forum. Thought a month was a bit harsh for linking a guy to the social welfare application. I was just sick of people asking do you know of any jobs going. I admit times are tough, but do your own fecking research instead of asking others to do the work for you.

Also, that was like the 5th thread in the space of a week.

So, to answer the question, yes I think they are too harsh.

See this is what I mean. Banning for that is just silly. Posting a social welfare application on that thread is funny. Where's their sense of humour? :pac:

I was at the UFC show in the O2 in Jan - on the MMA forum I said that the Irish fighter was way out of his league & got dimonated in his fight, and at one point he even ran away from his English opponent (both of which are FACTS - not even subjective!) ....this got me a 1 week ban. WTF?

Then in After Hours, Cookie_Monster said that austistic children should be kept in cages - this offended me bigtime, and I reacted by asking him if he'd like a brick in the face for his comment - 2 week ban.

Harsh? Definitely the top one was. The After Hours ban was likely justified, but the OP didn't even get wanred for his flame-baiting & disgusting comment! WTF?

So I guess it's all subjective, and prone to human error.

I been banned once or twice and infracted a few times too. Generally no ill will to any on the other side of the mod fence but it does learn ya that what goes one place won't go in another place on boards. I voted the third option. Most mods are fine but angry mods or over-moderation will make me move elsewhere to mess around. I would say try and give a mod the benefit of the doubt. PM me. I'm just a big fuzzy ball of cute soft manliness that punches flaming terrorists.

Wrong! I've been banned from AH quite a few times in the past and sitebanned and i'd still say that a lot of Mods are too lenient. They need to be harder on the fúcktards on boards.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 7,486 ✭✭✭Red Alert

I think some mods take the whole naming people thing a bit too far... I see no reason not to mention someone's name you were dealing with in a business just for factual purposes.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 598 ✭✭✭IronMan

Most are grand, some are assholes, some are fair, some are incompotent, some are clique, some are not, a bit like the real world.

The ones that pour into Feedback every time some posts something can get very annoying though. There is about 5-10 of them. Rabble rabble.

Anyways, I don't post enough on this site to have a valid opinion.

Not really, i think it all comes down to what you're use to

I don't use 4chan much but if i did i'd probably think boards is way to harsh, and the same goes the other way around as well

Some mod decisions are too harsh, some are too soft.

Seriously it like asking the question "are women too tall?".

mods do a good job.. it's a fairly tough thing to do, used to mod a photoshop forum before and it's just effort in the end.

i have to say though that boards.ie is the only site i've come across where a ban means you can't view the forum either without logging out.. i don't see why this is part of a ban. not being able to post for a week or however long is sufficient imo.

If I truly said what I thought of the mods, Id be banned.

I would say overall the Mods do a good job.

Some people are just looking to be banned . Like a Titanic looking for it's iceberg, it will eventually find it. :D

Something we are all aware of I'm sure .

Nice example, someone posts to ask for a recommendation on where to get a blue-ray player in bargain alerts then gets told to post in the correct forum and the thread gets locked.

Why not just move the thread to the correct forum instead of locking it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,906 ✭✭✭Rob_l

I'd say about 25% of the time 25% of the mods are ok!

The mods are a55holes. Can't say this, can't say that. Can't slag or criticise anyone, or it's a "personal insult", and you're banned. They lock threads when they're bored with them, as if the purpose of threads was to entertain them- as a result some otherwise good discussions get killed too soon. They also lock funny threads if they don't get the joke, even if no rules are broken, just because they're a55holes. There are far too many sub forums here so topics are moved off and get fukc all responses. If a mod feels like it, he'll move your thread just for his own amusement. This forum in general sucks- **** level of discussion, **** level of humour, asshole power tripping mods desperate to show how "tolerant" and "balanced" they are- they also take over threads and impose their opinion over it and goad people into getting banned by borderline insluting them just within the rules, repeatedly- then they can impose their totalitarian opinion.
