I started Fallout 3 at the weekend and played about 5 hours of it. I'm really pleased with the game and atmosphere so far. I think they got it spot on from the original game (played and loved Fallout about 7/8 years ago). There doesn't seem to be as much humour in the dialogue anymore but other than that it seems a brilliant sequel. Its refreshing to play a game with such a violent, adult story line after quite a few JRPGs and adventure games!

I am still messing around in Megaton. Im not sure if i'm gonna
blow it up or save it yet.
I shot the guy's headoff the second he suggested I blow up a town!

Haha, i wonder what will happen if i do what he says! Choice is probably the best thing about the game. I'll probably play as the good guy first time through but i'm gonna have to replay it at least once after i complete it to see what happens if i agree!

RE: Megaton: If you choose to
blow up megaton you get a fantastic view of a nuke going off and you will be permanently as evil as possible - I don't think there's enough good karma to get you back to neutral or good
Worth it for the view alone though.

There's loads of ways to get good karma. A lot of the quests have huge amounts of karma with the reward. Especially if they offer you money and you tell them to keep it.

    Also if you
give that tramp outside Rivet city some water, you get good karma - and you can give him as much as you want.

Way more fun being evil, although I will probably play it through again and try to be nice to everyone, thats not going to be easy;)

2,000 Caps + Father Clifford in Rivet City = Best Karma. There is 2000 Karma points, 1000 either way. And you get 1 good karma point for every cap you donate.

    Permanantly?? Lulz.

It's easy enough. There's enough raiders to kill, plus
    there's a different ending video!!

I do think that fallout 3 was one of the better games I have played in a long time, so much so that I forced it into being the 2008 game of the year in the magazine I work for (www.clickmagazine.ie) as well as constantly referencing it on www.game.ie :)

So whats the verdict on the DLC? I've read up on it and Operation:Anchorage didnt seem like there was a lot of additional content to it. Screens from the Pitt look very impressive tho and nice that it offers the first real trip outside DC. Anyone playing it on the PC? I heard there were some teething problems with the games for windows DLC?

I wouldn't bother with Operation Anchorage if I were you. While its fun at the beginning it gets old very quickly as it plays more like a straight out FPS without the RPG elements of the main game. As you imagine this doesn't really work that well.

    Is The Pitt out yet??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,558 ✭✭✭✭dreamers75

    Anchorage is poo.

Oddly going back to the megaton thing, i accidently shot the dude who offers you the job (i was a newb straight out of the vault he oddly was the 1st person i talked too) i pressed the wrong button and well what do you know theres a dead body with a nice gun lying in front off me.

Brilliant game for simply because anyone you talk to about it has played a completley different "game".

Haha you panicked upon meeting the first 'outsider' ;) I love Fallout

i rushed the game by mistake... took 4 hours to beat...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,457 ✭✭✭giggsy664

Now that's just extremely unusual. You used 1/20 of the total gameplay??

I was thinking about the DLC in general & I think they are inherantly pointless; if you think about it, half the fun of Fallout 3, Oblivion & any games of that ilk is the voyage of discovery. Of wandering around a vast countryside & discovering things / places / people at your own pace and in your own way. When I stumbled across the
    Oasis
, I felt a genuine rush of excitement & interest.

The DLCs though are the complete opposite of that philosophy; you know exactly what you're getting, where & how you'll find it (hell you're given a message straight off the bat saying "X marks the spot") & so on. There is no voyage of discovery. You buy it, play it, forget about it. I would rather have an exapnsion pack than these downloadable missions that just ruin the whole ethos of Fallout.

I agree with what your saying there pixelburp but I thought the way the oblivion shivering isles expansion was handled was done well.
Entrance found (Told where), seperate world inside to explore

I am hoping the the Pitt for fallout is like that. Think ill skip on operation anchorage for the moment though.

It doesn't sound like it tbh; reading previews, it sounds like a bunch of missions all inter-connected with an overall goal rather than a miniature sandbox. So I wouldn't hold out hope it'll be any different from Anchorage.

Shivering Isles worked for the reason you mention, it's just that these DLCs feel like ... well, glorified horse armour ;)

There's lot of problems with Fallout 3 (e.g. weird AI) but it's one of the most memorable and realised sandbox worlds I've played in (e.g I actually felt bad for murdering a load of people in Rivet city).

Haven't played the 1st DLC yet, going to just get them all at once and start a second character. I've only played the game once so still have some side quests to do etc.

I love Fallout 3 but Anchorage was a major letdown as it plays to none of the game's strengths. It's completely linear, repetitive and over in a flash. The extras like the Stealth Suit are pretty cool but The Pitt looks a much better proposition for my wallet. Though does anyone know why the new level cap is only once you buy the 3rd DLC? Makes me think maybe I should buy the 3rd DLC before The Pitt, or is it because further content is planned afterwards?

I have a question, I was wondering if somebody could help. I just downloaded operation anchorage for the 360, now how the hell do I play it? It has downloaded, but i dont have the option to select and play it. Has anybody else had this problem?

There'll be a new radio station found on your pip-boy. Which will open up the quest line. So I've read anyway, still haven't gotten the dlc yet.

I've been playing this for a good while now and explored all the southern section of the map and most of the northern section. I'll want to replay it in a couple of months to explore different moral and dialogue choices so I thought I'd start the endgame and leave some of the map unexplored to entice me back to it in a while. I hit level 20 last night during the
run from the project purity plant to the citadel
and decided to take the explorer perk to see how much I didn't explore. There's bloody loads! There's even some bits in the southern section that I somehow missed and I thought I crawled over every inch of it. Goddamn, I love this game.
After rereading some of the posts in this thread with spoiler tags that I previously ignored, I also see that I missed some events
    like the spaceship
. Good stuff, I might replay it sooner than I thought. :)
    Favourite moment so far:
Not killing anyone during the 'you've got to shoot them in the head' quest and still getting the keys through dialogue options. Then, taking the keys to the fort without going back to Mr. Crowley. I didn't get the quest achievement but Crowley was disgusted I screwed him over and took the gear. :)

Just thought i'd contribute to this thread. I absolutely love this game, its one of the best games i've ever played. Sure it has its flaws but overall i find it brilliant. Have to say though that i was very disappointed with the Anchorage DLC. There was no challenge to it, too easy and over way too fast but nice goodies at the end.

I've avoided finishing the game so far because i'm still exploring and finding new locations all the time but even though i find these new places there doesnt seem to be any new quests cropping up??

I found this Map http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_3_mapwhich i found very helpful but its a major spoiler so click at your own risk, you have been warned.

    Looking forward to "The Pitts"

I went a different way about it:
I killed them all, took their key's brought 'em back to Crowley to complete the quest then killed him and took the key's back. I didn't want to kill him but he caught me trying to pickpocket and one thing led to another:D

It's amazing how one thing can lead to another in this game and things don't turn out how you would expect them! :)

I finished it the main storyline last night and was
    pretty disgusted
    at the ending.
I had Fawkes with me and when I asked him to go and activate Project Purity, he spouted some nonsense about everyone having a different path to follow, which basically meant 'you must die now because the devs only wrote one ending'. Even though he regretted not getting to Raven Rock on time to help me escape. Very poor scripting from what was otherwise a great game. Also, I went into the Project Purity control room with piles of RadX and Radaway with me and had something like 85% radiation resistance. Lame.

Glad I got that off my chest, sorry for the long rant in spoiler tags. If I crossed some line, mods, feel free to delete this.

    That was an Epic Rant...
I just saved before I talked to Lyons and went in once, and let her go in the other... It's a double whammy ending..

Anyway I have all quests done so as soon as I get all bobbleheads i'm gonna redo the ending to see what I get.

    Omfg I wrote [/quest] instead of [ /quote]...
