Can anyone ID a track from around 1993-95... female vocal which sounded a bit like Sunscreem, really punchy bass and kick, heavenly choral bit and lyrics were something like this:

    Is it love, love, love?
Or is it love, sweet love?

Very sketchy I know but if anyone can help I'd really appreciate it! I had it on an old Judge Jules global underground mix tape which is long lost.

I think if you're going to talk about the "best club in the country", you need to consider clubs outside of Dublin. Sir Henries in Cork had the best atmosphere of any club I've ever been in (and I was in every club on your list), had greater longevity (Greg and Shane were resident DJ's for 14 years), and arguably better music than Sides. Just an alternative view, I did think Sides was a great club, but musically and atmospherically Henries was better imo.

No doubt that Sir Henries was a class club and defo a landmark on the Irish clubbing scene but in fairness most of the people posting here are from Dublin so for nostalgia and memories the Dublin clubs will come out on top of most people list, same as for northern Irish people it would be Kelly's and Circus Circus. Having experienced Henries on a few occasions and being a house head I would put it right up there in terms of irish clubs with Sides and the Asylum but would still say that form my perspective the Asylum was and always will be number 1, a little bit of heaven/hell on earth :)

Sorry, that's not it... Come to think of it I'm sure it was on a John Digweed mix tape titled 'Juicy'... around 1995 i think.. It sounded quiet Renaissance if that helps.

    Long shot I know!

Laurent Garnier said Sir Henrys in Cork was the best club he ever played in.
I'm from Dublin but am more into the Sir Henrys oldskool meshmelf.
It was more housey than its Dublins counterparts.

The Asylum was many different things to many different people and each person remembers there own little piece of nostaliga. It wasnt all just banging hard trance/techno althought the dark and sinister Tunes are wat gave the place its unmistakeable sound and atmosphere.... It also played some of the best house tunes of that era which are still some of my all time favs today ... Tunes that made bodies melt in the middle of the floor!!! Wayout west Montana is one that ill always remember in there....The likes of Toni de Bart which many will scoff at today were Asylum Classics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In terms of "underground" clubs, the Asylum was, and always will be, the most underground club I've ever been to. No question about that. I started going in 1993, and went pretty much until it closed it's doors in 1994. Musically, I always found it quite diverse, banging trance, progressive house and soulful house (in a Toni Di Bart/Volcano sense of the word) were the genres I most associated with the club, although for me the sound that epitomised Asylum (and particularly the basement level of the club) was the Jam and Spoon/Casper Pound/Cosmic Baby styled trance that Warren and Dilly played regularly. Sides also had that underground vibe, although it wasn't quite as mad, nor quite as open a display of hedonism, as the Asylum was.

I was 24 before I went to Sir Henries for the first time, to see Kerri Chandler. But I think that Greg and Shane's residency, and Henries deserves to be number one for lots of reasons (and I'm saying this as someone who comes from Dublin). Firstly, they are two of the few DJ's who ever made tracks themselves and gained commercial success, which few if any Dublin DJ's have (bar Dollard's "Moonboom" track, and a couple of others). Secondly, Henries had a reputation, not just in Ireland, as a club with an amazing atmosphere. People like Laurent Garnier (mentioned above), Kerri Chandler, Joe Claussell and Carl Cox cited it as a favourite club of theirs. Thirdly, the length of Greg and Shane's residency in the club (14 years) completely outstrips any Dublin residency in a club (with the exception of Cecil's residency at "The Grove" in Clontarf, which was a staggering 32 years!). And Finally, the quality of the music that Greg and Shane played over the years. If you listen back to the tapes, even from the earlier days, in my view the quality of both the DJing and the tracks is far superior to most clubs we had in Dublin back then. Henries was a world-wide institution for many, and I think its memory will probably outlive most of the Dublin clubs, although Asylum for me will always win hands-down in terms of being an underground/hedonistic party. I guess it's just a matter of personal taste, but for me, when it went off in that main room in Henries, the atmosphere was unbelievable.

My personal favourite is the Justin Robertson 1993 Side A.
One of the best live mixes I have ever heard. (And it was a Thursday Night belive it or not!!!!)
June1992 by Shane and Greg is also ****ing deadly and probably my favourite from them 2 boys.

I had mates back then from Corks Inner City. They had gone to Henrys religously for a long time before they made it up to Dublin and the Asylum.
They could not believe that such a mental place existed on our fair Isle.
They got a Limo to bring them up to the Asylum one night as it worked out cheaper for 6 of them than the train
To me (and them) Henrys was more like Sides it had that religous/tribal vibe where everyone would move together en mass to the music.
Met a fella from Limerick in Henrys that had discharged himself from Hospital to make it to Sweat. He still had blood coming through the bandages after a nasty car crash but was up there all night rocking it.
    The Asylum was more chaotic,harder.
Met a good few English guys and gals in the Asylum who had heard of it in the UK and made their way over, they said even then that the UK had nothing like it.
Im just glad i got to enjoy them all

I know him alright......waffled on here a while back about a mates shed we converted to our own Rave back 95 - 96 (open all night it was to & very relaxed policies:D).....Howie, Dave mooney & Mark Mc Grath used to bang out tunes all night for us like this one below posted on here a bit back after requesting it..........
Have a tape somewhere of the lads playing on Rhythm FM years back......they were residents in a place on O'Connell street years back also called the 13th floor which was great for tunes

Tell him I want my tape back:D Jaysus you just brought back a distant memory for me there, I actually went to the 13th floor one night. I was doing a Fás course with Howie and his mate and they asked me to come into the 13th floor one night as they or one of them was on the decks that night. Would have been an oldskool night. In them days the term oldskool didn't even exist as it was so soon after all the old haunts got closed down.

I was there only the once in 94. Went down to see Oasis in Cork so I had to check out the legendary Sir Henrys. Me and the mate were there although we were only on the sauce there is no doubt about it Sir Henrys was on a par with the Dublin scene.

I remember meeting a few clubbers from around the country 'We just had to come up to Dublin to see The Asylum'. Met Spanish people in there one night and this coulple from England arrived in at about 3 in the morning when it was in full swing. They were easily in their 40's.
Was always interested in what the Brits thought of the Asylum, just for pig iron I wanted to know how it compared to clubs in england, never got talking to any to get an opinion. Remember my sister telling me that there was english people in the Olympic one night and they loved the place.

There were these two girls from Cork who used to come up to Dublin to go to the Olympic every week instead of Sir Henrys, that was their personal taste.

On a number of occassions chatting to gals (Mainly from Town) in Sides or the Asylum Id be asked where I was from, when I said Leixlip the used to ask "are you up for the weekend?" or "are you staying in a Hotel",was way too much for them when I replied "no just caught the bus in"

Yes indeed, each to their own. I'm not suggesting my taste is better or worse, but to call 10 clubs the "best Ireland has ever seen" without even a nod to any club outside the pale is a bit ridiculous. The Olympic ballroom had one of the most amazing atmosphere's I've ever seen in a club. Musically, it didn't have a patch on Henries, but the crowd reaction was similar, if not even better in Olympic. Great great club.

I've said it before KEY, home grown DJ's would be my tipple by a country mile;)
Sure we even had our own DJ's dedicating an EP to the regular clubbers in The Olympic.
Olympic States - Ringsend, Tallaght, Ballybrack & Kilbarrick. (I'm sure they intended doing a Greenhills:))

Asylumkey, I've uploaded all the tracks you requested. Managed to find a cdm of the Capricorn 20hz track so hope it's the one you were after.

Here's my files link, all on there:

    http://mediafire.com/gwoodsfiles

    Regards
    G

Ah nice one chief....just listened to first two tracks & got that empty feeling again that i cant beleive the places are not open any more:(
Downloading 20hz now.....this was a class tune from way back then.

Just unpacked it there thanks for that excellent track well worthy & stands the test of time i think;)

This is dumb to say the least.......i upgraded my PC recently & had to download WINRAR & reinstall it just there but when i went to get it from mediafire someone had uploaded it as a RAR file???????
How do you get around that one........its like the chicken or the egg!
Someone acting the bollox i reckon to see how many dummies will download WINRAR as a RAR file in the first place.

warren k, pressure, francois, tim hannigan and kavanagh played in henries that i know of and the djs mentioned above are only the djs i saw. they had 4 excellent irish residents who played every night(shane johnson and greg dowling-fish go deep-marq walsh and stevie g). just because the guest djs are not irish djs doesnt mean they are wannabe celebrities, many of the best underground clubs around the world are more than happy to still book these djs. no disrespect to any of the dublin djs, always been a huge fan of kavanagh, pressure and francois.for anyone who has ever been to henrys have a look at this.

Was only buzzing off ya chief with that post & glorying the ASYLUM, SIDES, OLYMPIC & WATERFRONT cause they were what did it for me:D
But i do have to say it wasnt because the guest DJ's wernt Irish i said they were wanna be celebrities it was because a load of them are wanna be celebrities who think they are the focus of the Rave & deserve the glory & recognititon from the patrons......this was more than talked about recently on here & to summarise all of it,

The rave is about the buzz generated from the Tunes, Drugs, People & Set up with the DJ having the priviledge of playing at it....not the Ravers having the priviledge of seeing/hearing a DJ;)
