    According:

    http://www.independent.ie/national-news/ryan-now-isolated-still-refuses-pay-cut-1665163.html

RTE management has taken the unprecedented step of rubbishing one of its prized stars in public, describing broadcaster Gerry Ryan as "bombastic, loud-mouthed and opinionated".

Since when was being opinionated considered a bad thing. Especially for a radio interviewer.

Not a bad thing either I would agree.

However it's paying 500k+ for it is what most people can't understand;)

    How can anyone hate Gerry?
    Funny Gerry
    Serious Gerry

I remember reading a book he had out in the early 90's and he said he'd quit his show the day it got repetitive and they stopped coming up with new stuff. Surely he should have quit about 20 years ago?

kick out all the overpaid farts and let some of the young presenters on RTE have some of the so called flagship shows. At least they would bring a bit of fresh air to the tv.

Why are we limiting the comments to Ryan, Tubridy and in minor key Kenny. Its the whole shower I can't stand - the idiot Morning Ireland team with their mock indignation and pretend "hard hitting"interviews, Marion.....my god the woman has been boring the pants off the nation for over 30 years!!!!!!!!! Ann Doyle and the neck on her reading the news, Fanning sucking in his breath unable to broadcast.............oh Lord I could go on ( Duffy too now I think of it).

But its the mangement and programming twits that are totally in bed with these wallies - all qualified from UCD in the 1970s - were great mates (bet they can't stand each other now tho") but too hugger mugger to declare the emperors have no clothes -

So "just turn it off" - well I do. Listening to R4 as I type but I have to pay for their salaries whether I listen or not.

Once some of these people have got in at RTE then it seems to be impossible to remove them no matter how inept they are.

what I don't understand is why they can decide if they want a pay cut or not. I mean wtf? If somebody asked me did I want a pay cut I would obviously say no! they should just say right your pay is being cut

So what if he gets paid more than you?

You go do his job if you want to make that much money.

I'm sick of those two twats and their overly paid asses, they deserve more then a sacking, they deserve an ass kicking aswel for having us put up with their s**t for ages. 'Oh I'm Gerry Ryan, I'm a god on the airwaves', STFU Ryan nobody cares about you and your homophobic attitude(Just kidding about the Homophobe joke:D I think) But seriously I could not care less about them and their stupid pay cut, I means it's not like they're being fired, once this recession is over(Hopefully) they'll be getting a big pay rise after. /Rant

    That's just it.
Anyone here who says they wouldn't jump at that job and that money is a complete liar, or a commie. I doubt the latter though.

I'm not saying any of them are justified in what they earn, but don't pretend you wouldn't take that money.

He is a smart man who can surely afford even smarter contract lawyers. If RTE has a contract with him for his services for an agreed amount of pay then it is very hard to break that contract.

In the Tribune today it says he has changed the legal reason why he could'nt and has now taken a cut, and is giving a large sum to charideee mate...
As for that fat piece of **** who just is disgusting , everytime I think of the picture of him after he crashed his car about 10 yrs ago, I giggle inside......he's such an ugly wench

oh please please please sack Gerry Ryan. I've been waiting for this moment. It's the perfect opportunity. The reason - he's disgusting. And too stale for 2FM and the station needs to reinvent itself and Radio 1 don't need him.
Let him do his TV muck and relate his pay to their success.

Well that all depends, I would just be happy to have a job, but if you're asking me if I would take the money, then I would say no. Seriously I would because the second that, that money touches my hands it's automatically blood money to me and I wouldn't feel good taking that money knowing there are people suffering. It's not as if he's losing all his money, it's a simply pay cut, he'll still be earning more money then most people so in fairness it's just selfish to take money you don't even need.

BTW I'm not trying to act like a self righteous ham, because I would like to be getting a lot of money too, but I would still make the small sacrafice and take the cut

More to the point, if you had the job and the money(558,000euro) - the organisation you are working for, partly funded on a compulsory basis by the public, is going to make a 68million euro loss this year. All the other 2299 employee are going to take a paycut, most of them earning considerably less than you. Some will lose their jobs. Would you say "bullsh*t" and refuse to take the cut.

Are you the real JOOOOOOE Duffy?

With regard to honouring his contract I reckon they could legally just pay him what's due and show him the doras. Won't happen of course but I'd like to see his boat if they did. I'd say he's up to his neck in bad property deals - at least I'd like to think so.

    Bad Gerry.

Since 10 is the magic number, can we be reasonably expect/demand the licence fee to also drop by 10% at the next time of asking?

I think we should all email this wanker to let him know what we think.

I couldnt agree with u more on this point, gerry ryan is a fat over indulgant creature that sould never have been aloud into few of the public never mind hosts shows were he can be seen and worst of all heard. When i heard how much he is on i nearly got sick. Tubridy i feel sorry for because i think he is so tick he doesnt know whats goin on half the time. They sould axe the two of them and bring in two up and coming kids who have talent and views and opinions that people will actual care and belieave. (And on a quarter of the money)

    Different scenario.
I still maintain that anyone ehre would jump at that money.
Whether or not you have the morals to take a pay cut to save jobs is an entirely different story.
