This probably isn't the place for a serious question, but does anyone know what the usual deal is, when plane crashes like this happen? Do they close the airport, or are flights resumed in a few hours?

Most EU flights are cancelled for now AFAIK, don't know how long that will be though!

Schiphol is closed at the moment. if it were any other airport in Holland i am sure it would stay closed. But Schiphol will be opened fast enough again. it is the 3rd or 4th biggest airport in Europe, they will not leave that closed for a long time.

id say it will be closed for a while.
the emergency services are pre-occupied with this crash and therefore there is no emergency services available at the airport should a further incident occur.
also schipol is a fairly busy airport and the air traffic controllers will be pre occupied with landing/diverting all the aircraft which had been holding in the air awaiting clearance to land.
they also do not know if the airport or surroundings had any influence on the crash ie the ils system, weather ie windshear conditions, birdstrikes, lightening or terrorism

id say it will re open tonight

possible that he ran out of fuel. there was no fire. although no reports he declared a fuel related emergency

he came 500 meters short of the runway. I doubt that that has to do with fuel. I am no expert but it more looks like a too slow speed while landing.

All flights were suspended, but the airport has since re-opened.

the flaps, slats, landing gear, jack screw etc are lubricated periodically ie evey 60 days or an amount of flight hours or flight cycles.airlines must abide by these time constraints which are set out in the maintenance planning document by boeing and negligence in this regard is a breach of aviation law.

You're taking a terrible risk mentioning flaps, slats, screws, and periodic lubrication in AH, you know.

If the next reported number of dead is 14 then I'll win the office sweep.

I don't think it is appropriate to mock this happening where someone has just died.

Then you made the right choice by coming to After Hours!!!oneone

Any on-line footage of the crash landing?
