I tought it Hilarious and Ironic to hear of the longford officials heading off on a St pats day junket in NYC to vist the Irish disporia. Like why NYC ? why not Luton , Leeds, Liverpool , Manchester.....Reykjavik.

Why not pay for the disporia to come to Ireland ? Who's kidding who ? :)

Do all the American politicians jet off around the world on July 4th? By the way how do a bunch of nobody's from Longford manage to get a trip to NYC - I am sure the yanks are beside themselves with excitement and ordering an emerald green carpet for the arrival of these important distinguished guests. Hope they remember to leave their ****kickers at home.

Yeah, members of Leitrim Co Council head off over there for St Patricks Day as well, been doing it for years. Then we get to see all the photos in the local paper a few weeks later of them all living it up.
They would not want to consider the trip this year, because i think that would be one insult to many!

When the rest of the world starts celebrating thier national holiday and inviting american politicians to join them, maybe.

Whatever about people from longford, the whitehouse, to the best of my knowledge, always invites representatives from ireland (as in, the current government and in recent years all political parties and parties from the north) on paddys day to present a shamrock to the president and to the Speaker of the House.

When the most powerful man in the world invites you to come over to celebrate your national holiday in their country, you don't say no because it'd make some vocal monority on boards whine a little less.

I have no problem with the taoiseach going to the white house. I do have a problem with every other gob****e jumping on the first plane out of here. I bet if they put on a parade in ****in timbuktoo you'd have some twit heading over there.

Indeed. Stick them all on a plane out of here and blow it up somewhere over the atlantic and we finally get someone competent in power.

Imagine a Lost style scenario - which politician would play each role?

I can just picture the rest of them wondering why Mary Harney isn't losing weight after the sixth week on the island. I'd say she'd gobble a coconut whole.

AFAIK (read something about it recently) there won't be too many politicians travelling abroad this year for Paddy's day.
