It will be interesting to see how many of these cultural ambassadors or incompetant arseholes decide to jet abroad for St. Patricks Day to wallow like decadent pigs while the whole country cries out for some actual leadership that will sort out this economic catastrophe that looms over us all.

The nerve of these scumbags is unbelievable.

Meh, they'll explain it as performing part of the 'Lets pimp Ireland abroad' scheme.

I don't know what returns are actually seen from this yearly pilgrimage, we'll only really be able to gauge results if they did in fact decide not to go anywhere this year.

Egg them at the airports, egg their cars, egg their homes.

Which came first, the egg, or the shambles of incompetent bastards in government?

Any politician who leaves Ireland for St .Patricks day will never ever get another vote from me. I also think the whole day should be cancelled this year. Whats there to be happy about?

So cancel everything so we can all sit around wallowing in self-pity? Just kill yourself already.

It's settled then there will be no Tuesday the 17th of march this year, lets just skip to Wednesday the 18th and be done with it.

Not that we are anywhere near the tough times of yesteryear but I find myself almost pining for it to get worse so people will wake up and appreciate the important things in life again.

There is no need for Politicians to travel this year, i think we should all stay home and celeberate Paddy's day in the true Irish fashion :D

Loads of booze at the local pub :D

WE could indeed get drunk everyday or anyday(Today) but why pass up a good excuse when one comes along and your countrys national holiday is as good an excuse as you get.

But the politicians leaving is symbolic of one of the great things St. Patrick did in driving the snakes out of Ireland.

Its a complete waste of money . Take a day off at your own expense if you are lucky enough to even have a job! Its also another excuse for the politicians to leave Ireland for another holiday on our money. If any of them have any shame about the state of our country they should stay here to sort it out insted of galavanting around the world.

Also isnt there something in the constituation about the Tanaiste cant leave the country the same time as the Taoiseach in case of a national emergency etc etc???

is saint patricks day a waste of money, hmmm
Does the bar trade not help by employing more people over this period and government revenues from the associated tax on drink, not help the country.
What about the revenue tourists bring by coming to the country for our national holiday, is that not a boost to the country?

They wont ruin my fun whatever I decide to do! Dunno bout you. They dont give a thought to de likes of me an you while they are sitting in some luxury hotel sipping vintage wine or brandy. Theres no way any of them will be in a pub on paddys day anyway no matter what country they are in.

    1.No .Same staff.
2.We go up north for more drink now. Cheaper.
3.The tourist trade has long ago dried up. Too expensive.

I think it's ridiculous that our taoiseach the leader of the country spends our national day in a foreign country.

As for the other geebags politicians who travel abroad claiming they are promoting the country, would they not need to be well known abroad to promote the country effectively. Most foreigners won't know who they are so it's pointless.

On the other hand if we let them all go abroad we can stop them from coming back in.

How much money does it cost for all of these politicians to jet off to places like Australia and San Francisco? Could that money be used for better purposes? Couldn't they invite people here instead for the week?

True, having Obama over even once to watch the Paddys Day Parade in Dublin would generate more publicity than sending the muppets all over the world year after year.

I tought it Hilarious and Ironic to hear of the longford officials heading off on a St pats day junket in NYC to vist the Irish disporia. Like why NYC ? why not Luton , Leeds, Liverpool , Manchester.....Reykjavik.

Why not pay for the disporia to come to Ireland ? Who's kidding who ? :)

Same old thing probably, shamrock for Obama and yap on about giving illegal Irish workers amnesty.

Do all the American politicians jet off around the world on July 4th? By the way how do a bunch of nobody's from Longford manage to get a trip to NYC - I am sure the yanks are beside themselves with excitement and ordering an emerald green carpet for the arrival of these important distinguished guests. Hope they remember to leave their ****kickers at home.

Jetting off to New York myself for Paddy's day. Worked every other ****in one since I turned 18 so I'm owed it :D

Yeah, members of Leitrim Co Council head off over there for St Patricks Day as well, been doing it for years. Then we get to see all the photos in the local paper a few weeks later of them all living it up.
They would not want to consider the trip this year, because i think that would be one insult to many!

When the rest of the world starts celebrating thier national holiday and inviting american politicians to join them, maybe.

Whatever about people from longford, the whitehouse, to the best of my knowledge, always invites representatives from ireland (as in, the current government and in recent years all political parties and parties from the north) on paddys day to present a shamrock to the president and to the Speaker of the House.

When the most powerful man in the world invites you to come over to celebrate your national holiday in their country, you don't say no because it'd make some vocal monority on boards whine a little less.

I have no problem with the taoiseach going to the white house. I do have a problem with every other gob****e jumping on the first plane out of here. I bet if they put on a parade in ****in timbuktoo you'd have some twit heading over there.

Indeed. Stick them all on a plane out of here and blow it up somewhere over the atlantic and we finally get someone competent in power.

Imagine a Lost style scenario - which politician would play each role?

I can just picture the rest of them wondering why Mary Harney isn't losing weight after the sixth week on the island. I'd say she'd gobble a coconut whole.

AFAIK (read something about it recently) there won't be too many politicians travelling abroad this year for Paddy's day.
