Well nobody has bothered doing it so I may as well.
Wow, I really enjoyed this. Darlton wrote it so standard for them.
Absolutely fantastic start. I am really surprised everything got done in this episode. I thought they well would pull it out for a few episodes.
Seeing Jin at the and remember Daniel in the opening scene of the season makes me think that they are now stuck in time and that time is the late 70's, early 80's when the DI was in its pomp.

    More thoughts later.

Thought it was another goodie, but disappointed in a way that it was all off-island (well kind of!), but I suppose they had a lot to do to get them all to where they are.

Biggest shock of the episode? Well it has to be the scrubbed up Frank Lapidus, looked like a different man!

To me the biggest disappointment was not getting to know why Hurley changed his mind, and what happened to Sayid that he was being lead by a marshall onto the plane (and I think this marshall is Illana, one of the new characters, either proving that they have all crashed on the island, or that she replaces the original marshall in the scheme of things; presumably the Sayid look a like will be there too as he was in too many scenes to be just a background character). Question remains about whether Ben and Frank will be on island; if so let's hope smokie doesn't do for Frank like he did for the last pilot!

I enjoyed the Miss Hawking scenes, and thought FF toned it down a bit compared to last week. I wonder what will happen to Desmond, and Ben's injured state made me think has he attacked (and possibly killed) Penny, as he said he would. This would create a scenario whereby Desmond would want to return to the island to get his revenge...

Superb ending with Dharma worker Jin coming across the new arrivals, and I agree that they must be stuck in the 70's in the timeline we saw at the start of episode 1, so we may get to see the DeGroots and Hanso. Presumably the show will then turn into a 'how do we get back to the current day' conundrum. Of course next week's episode will probably not move on this story one iota, and then there's a week's hiatus til everyone is back together and the fun begins. And once again, damn you Iain Lee!!!

I actually thought they had gone back in time or something when I saw him :D

Yeah they must have gone back to the past, will that bring Locke back to life though?

I think Locke will be reincarnated in the same way (it now seems given all the talk of it, and the name on the van being an anagram of reincarnation) that Christian Shepherd was when the first crash took place.

One other thing that struck me during the episode was how the bad guys that were after Hurley and co. in the first few episodes seemed to give up their chase without explanation.

that was a joke episode right? right??

seriously what the **** was that? i mean it was entertaining but seriously.... what was that?

it was almost like every 5 minutes there was this big revelation and when someone was asked to explain it they just shrugged their shoulders and said 'nah' and the story carried on. and when did they all an actor-ectomy? and what the hell is up with jacks hair??? def the strangest television ive watched in a long while

I don't think that they'll just leave both instances to our imagination; I'm sure that they'll explain both situations eventually.

Good episode, but I'm getting sick of handing out 7's.:pac:

I thought it was a terrific episode.

The lamppost was very well designed (the huge swinging pendulum, the co-ordinates on the wall, the 70s Dharma equipment around the walls).

The proxy was very clever (Locke for Christian) - I hadn't thought of that. And I loved how other parts of the flight were copied - someone in custody, someone with a guitar case. I'm guessing Ben got beaten up by Sayid, but how he ended up on the flight was a mystery to me.

Some great lines too.... "We're not going to Guam, are we?", and "My mother taught me".

    Really great stuff.

Oh and damn Linus for what I think may have been Penny's murder. Ah well, at least it looked like Des got an ass whooping in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,908 ✭✭✭Daysha

I thought it was a pretty poor episode. It started off wonderfully in that lamppost station when it felt like we were really going to get answers in this episode, but then it went back to the same old Lost with possibly huge revelations and questions without bothering to even acknowledge them

    Jin ...dharma jumpsuit and van.....wtf
are they in the past ?

9 for me, loved it, is frank back on the island too, didnt see that coming, the airja airline bottle on the beach back a few episodes is starting to make sense now

Honestly do you think if Desmond had come across Ben going to kill Penny or whatever that Dessie would just give Ben a slap on the wrists?

well, theyve just gone and potentially destroyed the entire show in my eyes with that episode. itd wanna be a hell of a recovery next week to salvage it from the whole "lets make everything that happened since they got off the island completely irrelevant over the course of 40 minutes" angle

not impressed at all. up til now i always thought they were handling a somewhat questionably advisable direction pretty well, then bang. ruined

some quite embarrassing bits in this one too, almost like it was written by someone else. the lapida line was horrible both in idea and delivery, as was ms hawkings line to jack

I absolutely loved that episode. Thought it was fantastic. I'm a hell of a lot less critical than most of the people here, and don't enjoy picking at plotholes afterwards. I just enjoy the ride through the episode and I thought that was damn good. I really didn't want it to end, and I can't wait for next week!

I genuinely thought they got a different actor for Lapidus for a minute though!

I thought it was awesome - don't know why people are being negative. We knew they had to get back soon, or the on-island characters would have started to drop like flies - because of the time-travel nose bleeds.
Obviously they'll explain why Sayid, Hurley and Kate all changed their minds in the coming episodes. Wonder if Desmond, Aaron or Ji Yeon will make it back to the island at any stage?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,710 ✭✭✭✭Sad Professor

The best thing about this episode was the humour. It was extremely funny in places and I enjoyed the weirdness. Obviously the mystery of how Sayid, Hurley, etc ended up on the plane will be filled in via flashbacks later in the season. However, as a conclusion to the O6-getting-back-to-the-island-arc it was extremely anti-climatic. Everything was a bit too easy.

Anyone else get the feeling that this whole O6-arc was ended earlier than planned?

After an entire season of the O6 getting off the island and several eps of them messing around in the real world, they suddenly all drop everything and get on a plane. Maybe the writers or ABC decided the off-island stuff wasn't working and so the O6 story got rushed to conclusion.

    exactly my thoughts

    theyve really ballsed it up

That was a bit ropey, but I enjoyed it. They better have a very good explanation for why all the O6 had to come back though. If the answer's just "results would be unexpected otherwise", then it's the world's clumsiest plot device.

It'll be good to have some new characters on the island, in the shape of the Flight 316 survivors.

Wonder what Sayid was arrested for? Way back in Season 2 (I think), we saw a glimpse of him on tv, seemingly captured by US soldiers. Was that ever explained or is he on the run from US authorities? But why would they bring him to Guam rather than Iraq?

Penny better not have been killed. Hopefully, Ben tried something but Des stopped him and beat him senseless first.

Are you sure you're not thinking of last season? Ben saw him on a tv in Tunisia shortly after waking up in the desert. Sayid was returning to Iraq.

I'd forgotten about that, maybe that was it. But I think there was another similar scene in episode 209, "What Kate Did". Kate goes to see her stepfather in a U.S. Army recruiting station and Sayid was on the tv in the background. No mention of it in the wiki article though.

Oh yeah, when Kate went to visit her father? I forgot all about that. I think that was from the the end of the Gulf War when Sayid is captured and made to work for the U.S. army. We saw that flashback in "One of Them", a few episodes after "What Kate Did".

I'd forgotten about that as well, cheers. I really must sit down some weekend and watch all the previous seasons again.

Best episode in a long while (not that that says much) and certainly worthy of a whopper 6/10.

    Enjoyed the lines;

Jack - "What will happen to the rest of these people?"
    Ben - "Who cares?"

Frank - "We're not going to Guam, are we?"

Have to partly agree with these points which is probably why I gave it a 5. I was bored through half of it.

I was thinking the same but now that people mention Penny i'm not so sure.

I enjoyed that but it really is Lost Episode Creation 101 - make an episode where at least five characters seem to have done something or had something significant done to them but only hint at it. Instantly you have material for 5 more episodes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,139 ✭✭✭Wreck

I did enjoy this episode, not quite up to the standard set by the first few episodes this season though. Thankfully didn't go to far down a religious route, although the faith thing is worrying me. Highlight of the episode for me was Jin in the Dharma truck, really made me lol for some reason. Will be interesting to see where Ben went before the flight, personally I think it probably has more to do with Widmore than Des or any of the losties.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,445 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

What happened to Aaron? How did Ben get injured? Is Penny dead? Why is Sayid under arrest? What happened to the plane? Jin works for Dharma? What changed Hurley's mind? What the ****?

To many god damn questions. Great episode though :)

So they time traveled out of the plane, and that's why no one remembers a crash?

thought the episode was gonna be called ''the life and death of Jeremy Bentham''

I don't see how they can manage that. They had up until episode 11 in the can when the premier aired so no way they could have known about the criticism the off-island stuff was going to get.

So who attacked Ben and Kate? and where is Aaron.
Also was it my imagination or the timeline kinda screwed up. Jack goes from the church to the bar he then gets a phone call about his grandfather. He heads over and now it's daytime and grabs Christian shoes, he arrives home at night again to meet up with Kate. Did that represent a 24 hour period?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 648 ✭✭✭Neo#

I enjoyed the episode but I think the whole setting up the flight as it was originally was just ridiculous, even for lost. And Jack putting his father's shoes on Locke!:D Come on!

No, but they were watching the early cuts, as were ABC. The writers have spoken in the interviews of the challenge of trying to anticipate fan feedback this season. It would have been pretty obvious to everyone that the O6 stuff wasn't working. This episode was originally supposed to be 5x07 but they switched them. It's been suggested that ABC was behind this decision as they wanted to get the O6 back sooner.

I reckon the O6 arc was probably originally intended to last another few episodes. But ABC was getting confused and put pressure on them to wrap it up quickly.
