Ok, thanks. Any idea why our exam in March is denoted as 1E2?
Oh yeah. He said that it was just another name, but that the exam in march will only test stuff from this term. Then he laughed and said that to understand things from this term you'd probably have to understand last term anyway.

I had forgotten how good Portal is.

Apparently there's sinh and cosh on wiley, which we haven't covered =/

theyre grand.. differentiating and integrating them is in the tables book...
theyre the same as sin and cos.. Signs are slightly different I think..
If you need to do manipulations it might be helpful to know:
    sinh(x) = (e^x - e^-x)/2
    cosh(x) = (e^x + e^-x)/2
Those two formulae are also in the tables book, at the bottom of the tables for sinh and cosh respectivly.

They points (sinh(x), cosh(x)) form the right half of an equilateral hyperbola the same was as the points (sin(x), cos(x)) form a unit circle
    More here

Thats about the extent of what you need to know IIRC

    We.. have.. ?

    We.. have.. ?

Indeed we did, don't worry though. I often think we've done something we haven't or vice versa. It's something to do with sleeping in lectures I think.

I think it's something do do with sleeping in Tuesdays.

How could you. Have you never wondered about catenaries?

Nope, I'm not a civil engineer.

But you never know when you're gonna want to build the tallest monument in the US, go Gaudi on it and use hyperbolic functions for arches in a house or even if you wanted to know how make the anchors on your ship more resistant to dragging. Of course if you did want to know all of that then tuesday morning is not the place to find it out, just trusty ol' wikipedia.

I wonder if peritrochoid chambers use hyperbolas..

Experiments I have done in the last 10 minutes:
Put green tea bag in pot of boiling water with noodles.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 639 ✭✭✭devinejay

    Result?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,699 ✭✭✭Brian

Smelled a bit funny, tasted fine with Thai sweet chili sauce.

To be honest, all I'm hoping it'll do is by osmosis give me some goodness in my meal and cancel out the badness of the MSG aka instant noodles I ate earlier and intend to eat many more of in the future.

Also, I got a Maths question (s8.1 q19) out. Woot.

Was that the cosh and sinh one?

Nah, it was a d(e^f(x))/dx kinda one. Probably pretty easy.

Just wrote yet another perfect C++ program. :D anyone want a numer converted into roman numerals?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,699 ✭✭✭Brian

How about you convert 115 116 102 117 to roman numerals.

Then when you are finished that, write a program to convert from decimal numbers to ascii.

Then convert the same input numbers and see what output you get.

    what's ascii?

Does that actually come up with something funny or are you just wasting his time..
I'm assuming its time wasting since you cant go from decimal to ascii..

Harder program to write is to go from roman numerals back to integers.. Give that a go!! :-)

    Ehhh yea you can...

    ;)

What made you think you couldn't go from ascii to decimal? An ascii character is just a number.

Sorry I thought you meant decimal numbers as in 2.45346, not decimal as in the number system...
