I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me.

No other 'gods' could ever claim this...

As a non practising catholic I have considered going to mass to pray for help during these rather hard times.

I used to go about 5 times a year, for the right reasons, but I feel the urge to go more often now. I know it reeks of irony but has anyone else thought of doing the same?

God helps anyone who humbly asks for his help, and truly believes that he can help them.

God is a rock more solid than money as you know, and the mess here on earth doesn't affect his bottomless springs of life and love.

I believe FSM and his many noodly appendages is more equipped to deal with our current economic situation than some "god" whos only decent trick is sending insects to p1ss off people in poor parts of the world.

Whatever floats your boat like it wont do any harm or cost any money - but your probably better off thinking of what can be done here on planet earth!!

    on a more serious note.
Money is just a concept, people use money to buy food, shelter, education etc etc.
God nor any religion created money. They created people who in turn as a society created the concepts of modern life as we know today such as money and trade.

God helps those who believe he can help them in life(i.e. health) but not in material things like wealth or money. Money is only good to pay for goods and services not for your health, not for your mental well being, not for your relationships and not for your happiness(Not directly in any case).

    /Too deep for AH i know :p

Is there some kind of super-God I should be praying to on Friday?

    Optimus Prime.

Strange seeing that you have a saint's name.

I'm sensing someone wants to be part of the cool "God doesn't exist atheism ftw crowd" on the internets

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Menas

The username is from a character in a book my wife wrote, that it is the same as some saint is of no consequence to me, however if it makes you feel better then I'm happy for you.

Considering I've been an atheist for 34 years now, your last comment makes little sense. Does my lack of belief threaten yours?

Mad Men's Don Draper : What you call love was invented by guys like me, to sell nylons.

If he didn't help people when they were dying of the plague why would he now.

Why not? I'm sure Eris has dressed up in a fake beard while drunk and said this at some point.

I'll say it again, this time I will put it in bold and enlarge it for your convenience.

    I wasn't complaining

And as I said to you in an earlier post, I was using the "collective" you. Google it if it confuses you.

    God:
Certainly, I have an extensive built-in help system.

I'm sure she did, but that doesn't make it true...

    That's not irony, it's hypocrisy.

    A quite simple, No.

    Time wasted praying to nothing.

Do something better with your time.

God helps those who help themselves. Considering a lot of people in this country help themselves to a lot. We will all be looked after by the end game big boss.

    Matthew 6:28 -
"Why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They don't toil, neither do they spin"

If we take care of our souls for eternity, which are more than the body and its life, we may leave it to God to provide for us food and clothing, which are less. Anyone here who cannot believe that?

Instead of sitting there begging for his help why don't you get up and take action. Become a pirate and you can plunder your own swag, God will be happy that you took a sacred path and you will reduce global warming! Win-Win-Win.
Some people are so selfish. :(

There is actually, evidence that religious attendance increases in times of hardship. For instance during the great depression, numbers at church increased dramatically. It seems, according to neuroscientists, that despair and emotionally stressful times garner an increased irrationality among people. They sort of need to escape into fantasy and forget reality.

So it shouldn't surprise anyone if attendances in church go up. Weak minds tend to think alike.

 What a load of garbage. just because you go to church it doesn't mean you have a 'weak mind'. If you made these sort of generalizations against a race of people or an ethnic group or homosexuals , you would be called 'prejudiced' and rightly so. However, it's grand to take a pop at religious people it seems.well, actually, it's not okay. It's wrong to generalize a whole group of people as irrational and weak-minded just because you don't agree with their way of life.
    grow up.

On the other hand we know for a fact that different races of people, ethnic groups and homosexuals all definitely exsist.
