Well as a Christian, I pray to God in the good times and the bad. Go ahead, pray, and forget about the ironry, God won't mind. Just remember Him when we're back in the good times... :)

Oh yeah, and He doesn't care where you are when you pray so you don't have to go to mass to do so...

    God Bless.

I will ignore the "I am funny and want thanks" brigade.

'God' will definitely help poor old Ireland out of the recession, after all, we are much worse off than the families in Sudan getting their heads macheted off or the women in Saudi Arabia getting stoned for being rape victims.

I reckon God will help those who are open to Him at all times not just times of hardship. No harm in trying though.

Doesn't your God saw something about not slagging off retarded people because we're all equal or some shit?

I bet God made a good bit of money on the property market, what with him knowing what was going to happen and all. I think that God should have to pay a higher percentage of tax. In these tough times, even "the way the truth and the life" should pull his weight. Not sure he can do that though, as he is of infinite weight. Maybe he can pull something slightly less heavy than himself, like a ship loaded with wildebeest and kettlebells.

I know if I only ever visited Mammy when I wanted a lend of 50 she would'nt be very happy. What if the same principle applies to God..

Mammy usually knows what's good for you despite what you may think and if she thinks €50 is best for you, I'm sure she'd give it to you. However, if she thought that giving you €50 for whatever reason was not going to do you much good in the long term, then you'd have to accept that 'Mammy knows best...'

How about you lot get off yer arses and vote in a government that actually has the wherewithal to deal with this crisis instead of handing out golden handshakes to every charlatan they can find!

I think that's a lot more practical than praying to one of a thousand deities that probably don't exist.

Oh? And what one would that be then? Considering that we cannot tell until after they are elected. Actually it would take some time to tell if they are any good. They are all the same...

Bring back charlie, he would get us out of this clusterfoook.

There is actually, evidence that religious attendance increases in times of hardship. For instance during the great depression, numbers at church increased dramatically. It seems, according to neuroscientists, that despair and emotionally stressful times garner an increased irrationality among people. They sort of need to escape into fantasy and forget reality.

So it shouldn't surprise anyone if attendances in church go up. Weak minds tend to think alike.

Yeah luckily I haven an Xbox 360 and GTA4 so don't need god no more :P

I was using the all inclusive "you", but if you're going to go for it, good on ya!

Personally I won't join, you see, the recession means nothing to me, as I am foreign, and apparently, the government supplies me with free housing, cars, holidays and access to swans. Life is great.

No I am not going to create a new party, I CBA. The recession effects everyone, as in, every body, as in, the whole world. So being foreign doesn't mean poo. Show me some evidence that you get free cars and holidays, the housing is believeable, the rest is not. Evidence as in a link or something ;) Otherwise you are talking crap...

If you cannot vote, why you telling others to do so? I don't vote, I haven't used 7 years of votes, I probably won't vote for a long time either. Not interested.

I've actually been thinking about this. Does the current government even have a mandate from the people? Based on the mood of posters in general, on boards.ie, it would seem most would like to see them turfed out. I guess we're heading into territory more suitable for the politics forum here, but how would one go about actually changing the government when the people are clearly unsatisfied, if recent poll information is believed to be accurate?

It would seem to me, that in a democracy, you get what you vote for, however should the government fail the people, surely they should be replaced... Personally I can't see that ever happening in Ireland, hell, you cannot even get Ministers or TD's to resign when they screw up royally.

So what should you do? I don't know actually, for one, it's time to give another political party a shot at running the place, if only to get those currently in government out of their ever so comfortable seats. Will that help change things? I don't know. I think I'm too cynical in my old age to believe that any government is actually there for the benefit of the people... they only seem to want to line their own pockets.

That was pure sarcasm based on so many posters totally unbalanced beliefs about immigrants and what they are entitled to. I don't get a damn thing from the government currently.

If you cannot vote, why you telling others to do so? I don't vote, I haven't used 7 years of votes, I probably won't vote for a long time either. Not interested.

Well if you're not exercising your democratic right to have a say in who makes decisions that affect your life on a daily basis, then you've no right to complain no?

I personally never vote for any particular party. What's more important to me are individuals who actually make a difference in my local area. If I have evidence that they can put their money where their mouth is on a parochial level then, chances are, they may do the same when in government.

Scrap Political Parties and bring in independant TD's. That way, they'll have to work harder at keeping both their integrity and their place in government as they won't have party 'colleagues' backing them up when they make a mess of things.

Personally I think A Dictator should step in when the Govt. fail. Any ideas of who that should be?
