Well hold off but continue to research because you could come across a real value and that is the main thing!

Its the same as any other industry Airlines and Hoteliers are going to tap in and charge more for Xmas and New Years etc...

    Enjoy!

Was looking at Aer Lingus flights there, and they're still dead cheap up to the end of April, but from the start of May onwards they shoot up in price.

I'm looking to go to New York early to mid may, are the prices likely to stay as they are for May because its the summer season, or is there a chance they might drop with Aer Lingus deciding to extend their cheap flights into the summer?

ok first time posting over here in the travel section.

a friend of mine is going to new york in march with her fella for his birthday and he is mad in to anythign to do with police.

here our question does anyone know if it is possible to get a police ride along with the new york cops? and if so how would she go about sorting it out?

she would love to arrange this for his birthday

any help on this matter is much appreciated.

    Hiya,

The only thing I could suggest is if you get in contact with their Public Relations department they might have a 'ride along' donated to a charity you could bid on / buy?

The NYPD Museum is pretty cool too http://www.nycpolicemuseum.org/

    Hope this helps!!

Booking a hotel either tonight or tomorrow for next july, is it cheapest to book straight from the hotels website/phone reception or can you usually get it cheaper from hotel websites?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 84 ✭✭McGaz23

hey i wouldn book straight from the hotels, i always found them to be way dearer. I found a good web site www.alpharooms.com and i found them to be way cheaper!!!

Not great, but still better than most places in the States. City that never sleeps my arse. Dublin really is a class place to go out in when you compare it to a few places around the world.

Anyways, few good bars down Greenwich Village which are worth a look but nothing crazy. For a Saturday nightclub, we went to Pacha on the very West and middle I think of Manhattan (get taxi there and back, dodgy) in May 2007 and Sept 2008 and both times they were claaaas. Just New Yorkers/Jersey people going crazy. It's usually $30 in but if you register on the site in advance, you get to pick 2 Saturday nights you can get in free. That's all I know anyway.

Anyone ever been over in NY on St. Patricks day? I should heading over for that week so looking for tips on what to do and what to see at the parade etc?
If so, any tips of where and what to do that day in relation to the parade?
Where is the best spot to be? What time should I be out at the parade?
How long does it go on for?
Are the shops closed on that day?

I really don't see the point in going to NYC on SPD. It's one of, if not the most expensive holidays to get flights and hotels etc, and it's a circus. Maybe I feel this way cause I've never seen it first hand, but I fookin hate crowds, and can't see the added benefit tbh. I almost did book 17th, but settled on next weds instead... cant wait!

Aparrently the parade is supposed to be quite boring. Just an endless procession of marching bands. I suppose it'd probably be nice to be Irish and at it but you certainly pay a premium for being there at that time.

Doesn't always sell out, and neithe rteam is great at the moment so you shouldn't have a problem getting these at face value from ticketmaster (go to the us portal at ticketmaster.com). When you're booking them, select "Will Call" and there's a window at madison Square garden where you present your credit card and e-mail confirmation (you might need passport too).

Its great craic and I'd highl;y recommend it (if there's Rangers ice hockey on try and catch that too - same method for tickets)

Was considering stubhub for knicks tickets, but they seem extortionately-priced. Would there be any value in printing the MSG seating chart, trying to get some from a tout outside on the night, and sending to GF in to check if they're legit/good seats while keepin yer man there?

Your unlikely to get a tout to stay in one spot for that long tbh. Are tickets sold out for the game you want to see? Probably only games v Lakers (and Kobe), Cavs (and LeBron) and the Celtics would sell out (Maybe the Nets too)

Sign up, print out the coupons for Woodbury commons... <shudder> If I never visit that place again it'll be too soon.

I had originally planned to go last October with my mum and sister, but my mum fell ill and we had to change our flights at the last minute due to her treatment. So try and cheer her up, I thought it would be nice to go in March for Paddys day. Got a great hotel near the financial district for a reasonable price also.

I have another problem though...I am flying back on Saturday the 21st at 9pm, but I need to find a bar that is showing the Irish rugby match. It is on at 5:30pm...about 1:30pm in NY, any suggestions where I could watch it? Completely forgot about the Six nations when I was changing our flights!

Has anyone ever rented an apartment for holidays through Craigslist?
I've just send off some mails about a few I'm looking into in NYC, near Union Square and got 1 reply so far. The offer was $120 in Feb, $140 in March and given I'm going in April I've been quoted $200 a night which is a big mark up compared to the other mark up.

If I end up going for one of these apartments that may be available I'm worried about potential scams, so if anyone can give me any insight on their own experiences it would be greatly appreciated.

You'd get a hotel at a cheaper rate than that.
