I've always taken a taxi to airport but caught the train at Penn Station and then the Sky-thingy at Jamacia Station to JFK. I prefer to take the train rather than a shuttle/taxi back.

The only thing you'll get for E80 a night in NYC is a hostel. Hotels are very expensive even the budget ones , the cheapest would be 120-150 euro off-peak. B&B's are illegal in NYC so you'll have no luck there. Try Radio City Apartments , Milford Plaza and Edison Hotel. If you're going for a hostel try The Big Apple Hostel Times Square.

    Hi,

Im thinking of heading to NY over the next few weeks for a couple of days...Trouble is I'm going alone and all the hotels are really expensive for one person! All the special package deals in the travel agencies are for two people or the single supplement is huge! I have checked ebookers, trailfinders, 1800 hotels and loads others and I cant find anything..

It would be my 1st time there so I would like to stay somewhere nice and central but I need to be somewhere safe as well?

    Anyone any ideas at all?

    Hi,

5 GIRLS going to New York for a week 22nd Dec to 29th. Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced hotel/apartment mid-town Manhattan /near Times Square or that general vicinity?
A twin room and a triple room would be required. Thanks. :o

I have booked the Holiday Inn Midtown 57th street - anyone stay there? I read good reviews about it on Trip Advisor.
Also, does anyone know any good restaurants near this hotel (mid price) or places to get a nice breakfast?

I have a suggestion but it comes with a HUGE disclaimer: This place may be cheap but it is far from a quality hotel. If you are only in New York for a few days it is fine for what you need. Dont expect room service or hell even cleaners to call to your room (it will be cleaned once before you arrive and if you want a change of towels you have to go down to reception)

Ok having said all that. The Carter hotel is about 200m from time square and I just checked a single room for the 27th of October it costs $125 for the night. So as long as ypur not staying too long and your not expecting ANYTHING special then it might be for you! http://www.hotelcarter.com/

Look up the top of the forum. There is a big New York sticky which should answer all your questions.

heading to new york in november, going with 2 other lads (25yrs old), gonna do all the touristy stuff while we are there, but does anyone have any good suggestions on decent pubs/clubs to visit while we are there?

Finally booked accom after hours and hours of research, finished up with Milford Plaza thanks to the posters here and tripadvisor. I'm aware of the whole clothes thing being a lot cheaper and am going to pick up a new camera but is there anything else that is worthwhile picking up over there? Anything in the medical line or gadgetry line that anyone can recommend ?

Make up and beauty stuff is a lot cheaper, but I imagine you are male. Ipods are cheaper too.

Just as a little tip,BBC Radio 5 have a New York hour every Sunday morning from 0100-0200 as part of the 'Up all night' show. The panel made up of 'gabby cabby', Peter Franklin, and a guest, answer questions sent in from this side of the pond.
Great for picking up tips on good night spots, clubs and things to do etc
Its always enjoyable and worth a easy listen at some point during the week. Listening to it just feeds my apettite to go back to NYC next year.:D

    Hi all,

I am struggling to find a decently priced accomodation for New York. I am flying out with a friend on the 11th Nov for 7 days!

I am not too keen on a hostel unless its a private en suite room. But there doesn't seem to be many of them.

Ideally somewhere central in Manhatten. I would appreciate any suggestions and recommendations.

    Thanks a million!

Cheap and central does not exist as a concept in Manhatten. The best value is to rent an apartment, http://vacation.new-york-apartment.com/en/new-york-city-manhattan/ or other sites on the net. Hotels are always expensive, and a three star in Manhatten is usually quite basic and dated.

Oh right ok, thanks for that! I believe there is alot of scams there at the moment with regards to apartments! Not sure how true this is!

Wingate Inn Manhattan - around the corner from Macys - Penn Station (you can get train from Newark and JFK it only take a few mintues to walk to hotel). It is close to everything - it's 3 years old this December. I've stayed there twice and wouldn't book anywhere else. Rooms are really big for New York standards and everything is new.

Trip Advisor are great for hotels - people post pictures so you can get an idea of what the place is like. Check out the Wingate.

    Hi all,

Heading to NY in a few weeks! (Still haven't found accomodation). But I was wondering does anybody know what kinda temperatures etc to expect in early to mid November?

The last time I was there it was fairly warm but that was in August!

Also, does anybody know of any computer hardware stores in Manhattan and are they any cheaper than here.

    Thanks

Best thing to do is check the forecast before you go, I was there in mid November and the weather was mild, didn't even need a jacket walking around, but I was there at the end of November another year and it was a lot cooler. You can get an idea of the avereage temperatures here http://www.ny.com/general/weather.html
