I honestly think that someone who has a PHD in Economics should have more voting power than someone who dropped out at Junior Cert.

If we give the more educated members of society more voting power, it'd stop gob****es who don't know anything wreckin our economy.

    say you get,

    5 votes with Junior Cert
    7 votes with Leaving Cert
9 votes with Degree or more.

Having a degree doesnt stop you being an idiot
    *waits for arts students :D*

I can see where you are coming from but it would never happen, for a start we would probably need a referendum, hence they would vote in record numbers led by libertas:D

Someone who is more educated is more likely to vote than someone who dropped out of school.

we already have that in a way. Only certain college graduates can vote for the senate

Just exclude anyone who doesnt have a degree from voting altogether. The notion that some of the smacktards on here have an equal vote to the rest of us makes me shudder.

it'd stop gob****es who don't know anything wreckin our economy.

I for one think it's very heartening that Junior Cert dropouts can hoover up all the executive finance and banking jobs.

That makes perfect sense, especially after the recent wave of revelations that, if anything, it are the people who are better educated and in top positions that have been taking the most advantage and doing the most damage.

I imagine all those bank folk have degrees out their ass.

NUI graduates already get more democracy than the rest by having their own pet senator.

Having been to college with some right muppets for three years I'd say we should measure the votes by IQ's rather than levels of education.

Or just remove the right to vote altogether.

This is starting to remind me of that simpsons mensa episode. out of interest does anyone know the breakdown of votes according to education in recent elections/referendums?

Ah wasn't this Plato's idea- the notion of the philosopher king. To be ruled by the most intelligent in society and all that.

Would never work, human nature is all about self interest. And the self interest of a Phd holding economist is very different to that of a regular working man.

yeah op, thats a good idea. after we take their votes away maybe we could then instruct them what to read and watch/listen to. lets burn all their books etc that dont agree with our point of view. we should then move them all in to the same areas, easier to keep an eye on, control or whatnot. i reckon we should have them wear some kind of a mark so that they are identifiable, i dunno, maybe a star on their sleeves. some of them we could keep around for artistic purposes, maybe music and acting. the thing about this is the areas where we keep them will probably get very crowded, might even breed dissent. we're going to need some kind of final solution............but i'm drawing a blank here. any ideas?

So if an Irish version of Richard Branson comes along, maybe having left school early and sets up multi-millions worth businesses and employs thousands, your still not going to allow him to vote because he don't have the right school paperwork!

    Sorry, unworkable idea.

No this is already a problem. The people in government are so far removed from from the average citizen that they just haven't a clue what they want and don't really care either.

The only people FF care about is the people they go to dinner partys with not the scum they see cueing at taxi ranks while they float home in their chauffeur driven mercs.

I really think this is a problem. We need more common people in government the people who work on the floor or deal with people face to face. Who know how things actually work because they've done that work.

plenty of 3rd level graduates on the dole too and i'm including the useful degrees here.

A higher proportion of idiots than smart people finish degrees they don't want. I really don't think having a degree is a measure of anything.

    What next?

Votes only for those who have served in the army?

Growing up i was suprised to find out how many people would support stupid and blatantly unfair suggestions such yours. Makes me glad we have a constitution (however sh!t and old fashioned it is).

OP, if you've been to third level, as your opinion suggests, how did you fail to notice that the place was filled with lunatics?
Sheltered academics have some of the most mental world views in existance; they tend to polarise on almost every issue, settling on the most extremist, crazy, views. They also can't agree on the colour of ****e.

I'd rather restrict the vote to children.

Yea I know but I have to be hospitable.

By the OP's process of thinking, Einstein wouldn't have gotten a vote either in his day if that idea(!) was adopted.

Or how about we encourage debate and reasoning with citizen participation (through use of the internet) before an election.

The party who spends the most on catchy slogan posters before the election wins. That's just the power of advertising.

Therefore the party who takes the most brown envelope contributions for their campaign funding wins. That's why corrupt people tend to get in power.

Democracy, although probably better than any alternative, isn't all it's cut out to be.

You're being a bit too liberal here, let's just restrict voting to Men over the age of 40 with property and earning over €100k pa with a masters! That would keep the great unwashed where they belong!

Your probably talking about the Lisbon Treaty and how the "working class" rejected it. The only people that have wrecked our economy is FF.

Well all the people I know from college would have a better informed vote than a knacker from southill.

But if we return to property qualifications I won't be able to coerce my uneducated tenants into placing votes for me or my peers.
    Fetch my port, you swine!
