When I was a kid these rocked, they were scrumdiddlyumptious.

So, they were half price in tescos the other day so I thought, hey, I could eat some processed crap,

Well I just did, and they are quite possibly the most yuckiest thing I've ever eaten :(

Is there anything you remember loving as a kid and then discovered it was infact muck?

Well, plasticine was when it was in all the lovely colours.

Mála was after the school had it for 15 years and it was just a big brown grey lump.

    Yes, Findus Crispy Pancakes!

Seriously, what happened?!? They're now about half the size and have some rubbery compound on the inside.

Not really. I ate everything when I was young(er). All for my veggies and paté and what not. I still eat most of it though I go through phases where I'll eat the same thing for like 2 weeks and then won't eat it again for months.

Kind of off topic, ah well. I have a friend who used to put maple syrup on to potato waffles thinking they were the same as American-style waffles.

I used to love those heart-shaped Roses with the strawberry fondant inside.

Can't stand the feckin' things now.

I used to like HPs spagetti shapes - but they changed the sauce. :(

Also, Goodfellas Spicy Chicken Jolt (TM) but they discontinued it. I e-mailed them to express my disappiontment. That was the end of it.

Frada, I think we'll have to disagree on this one, I think maybe dubs call it mála and non dubs the silly word with the r in it!!

Yeeeuch.. Never liked them.. Used to love Birdseye Potato Waffles, they were gorgeous, but I've noticed the taste has changed over the years, like everything else.. They keep changing the recipe.. Using cheaper ingredients me thinks.. bastards.

I remember when they first came out, they had stickers for some crap sci fi film called The Black Hole and they were yummiest things yer ever had. For a hangover cure, I used to make a few chicken curry ones and put tomato sauce on 'em then mop the plate up with toast :o

They're bloody awful now though

Aw I had the chicken curry ones - there was minced beef ones in the freezer and all - goddammit

did I imagine that there were steak and kidney ones back in the day?

think I'll have to go have a bowl of bob the builder puzghetties

Thought the thread was called "Furious Crispy Pancakes". :o

I think that everything i used to eat is the same as i eat now really. I don't think there's any favourite food that i no longer eat.

'Bikers' crisps went to crap, though.

your dead right.. im from meath, always said Mala when i was growing up.

recently moved to galway, everyone up here says its marla!! and that mala is a bag so theres no way we could ever use the same word to describe both! i know mala is a bag blah blah blah but we use mala for both...so tough ya crazy westies :P;) haha!

back on topic, had those crispy pancakes from tesco saw they were half price so got few packs.. they were good, had some today too.. but i think im done with them for the next few years. Also used to love caramel in chocolate, hate it now!!

Some one has really taken a dislike to crispy pancakes it would seem:
Approximately 450,000 Crispy Pancakes were destroyed in a fire at Findus' plant in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK on 6 January 2009
    Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crispy_Pancakes_(brand)

I used to love these lads years ago too, adored the way they used to puff up and the goo inside would burst out and start bubbling, happy days.

Those half price ones in Tesco were the ****ty imitations produced by Green Isle. The Findus brand ones are still as scrumptious as ever but very hard to find:(

If it's any consolation, you were absolutely correct.
Mála is and always was a Bag.
Márla is and always was Plasticine.

Márla never tasted nice, new, or 15 years in circulation. Never tasted a Mála though, so I can't say.

Approximately another 450,000 Crispy Pancakes were destroyed in a fire in my ma's cooker... only difference was we had to eat them. I don't think my ma ever managed to do one without burning at least one side.

On the other hand, the Cambells Meatballs she gave me were great. tried them years later and they were pure ****e. They were probably pure ****e back then too but.. kids eh? They like ****e. Ketchup samidges and what not
