Put down the sheep and back away!

    Bad news for sheep fanciers in England and across the border!

    On 26 January last month, a new law went into force in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland to make it a criminal offence to possess so-called "extreme" porn. But what is "extreme" porn?

    According to the UK government, porn must possess all three of the following characteristics to be considered "extreme" and so to incur criminal sanction:

    1. That the image is pornographic;
    2. That the image is grossly offensive, disgusting, or otherwise of an obscene character, and
    3. That the image portrays in an explicit and realistic way, one of the following extreme acts:
    • An act which threatens a person's life;
    • An act which results in or is likely to result in serious injury to a person's anus, breast or genitals;
    • An act involving sexual interference with a human corpse,
    • A person performing an act of intercourse or oral sex with an animal (whether dead or alive), and a reasonable person looking at the image would think that the people and animals portrayed were real."

    The law includes many exemptions, including "extreme" images used in classified/rated films and art. Also, if people have a "good reason" for possessing such images--or if they unwittingly have them on their machines and have not looked at them, then they will not be charged if caught. Likewise, people who "accidentally" stumble upon such images on the internet or who receive them unsolicited via email will not be prosecuted.

    People who participate in the making and distribution of such "extreme" images, however, can expect no such mercy.

    My question
    - will we see now these odd people creeping across our border to safely commit these ugly acts?
    - will it now still be safe to ask someone about their wife, using words like "How is the old heifer in doors?" :rolleyes:

    A person performing an act of intercourse or oral sex with an animal (whether dead or alive),

    If it is dead?
    What would be the gain here?

    and a reasonable person looking at the image would think that the people and animals portrayed were real.

    Oh, right.

    This law will make a lot of art illegal and may also make most mainstream comics illegal as well.

    So Rape, erotica-asphyxia, necrophilia and bestiality is banned (and im sure there is many others). was scat left out? Not extreme enough for british MP's :p

    Sounds good on paper but in reality I dont think it will work well.

    A lot of the porn out today looks like borderline rape to me. What if joe bloggs has his computer checked by police and they find a video that contains a deep-throat scene (sry to use that example but you get the idea) or similar, does poor joe get sent off to jail. What exactly constitutes "serious injury" in porn?
    Although Id love to see solicitors argue in court over whether or not a sex act is considered injury.

    I hate to sound sympathetic but why is necrophilia porn banned? Its an extremely small niche porn that involves men/women painted white and pretending to be dead. Are they really trying to push the theory that someone watches necro porn and may decide to run out to a graveyard? How many cases of necro have there been? :confused:
    A person performing an act of intercourse or oral sex with an animal (whether dead or alive),
    Yeah I lol'd. Ive heard of a case in America involving a man and roadkill, the defense tried to argue it wasn't an animal because it was dead

    Nah, I think the law focuses on possession and I don't think the uk police do checks of computers unless its really serious like suspected child porn or terrorism. Of course that might change with the law, but I still cant see it being enforced due to the ease of getting and availability of porn

    As mentioned in previous posts "So I cant watch extreme porn, but I can perform it?".

    Wonder if this will have any effect on Bizarre magazine

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,814 ✭✭✭BaconZombie

    Yeah it will make most issues of Bizarre illegal.

    The law is so vaguely worded that it can cover a hell of a lot of stuff that will be perfectly legal to do between consenting adults but it one of them or somebody else take a photo or video of it they will be committing a crime.
