I don't think they need an attacking player unless he's going to be of the quality of Arshavin. I'd say if they miss out on him they could well end up signing nobody.

have their been any hints of Arsenal targets apart from Arshavin? if he doesent sign surely you guys will get someone else, yes?

We were linked with some French DM named Diame.
Never heard of him so I can't comment.

As a Villa fan i wouldent mind that, Although he would probably turn out to be a future gem i doubt he (having never heard of the guy either) is the answer to your defensive problem now and could mean an immediate solution i.e Veloso for example might not get bought at all. This season is all that matters cos you guys will be a force next year no matter what yif you have CL football. tbh if you sign someone like Arshavin I really wont loike the look of the Arsenal attack in the latter months of the season if all are fit Arshavin, Walcott, Eduardo added to Nasri, Vela, Van Persie, Bedtner, Adebayor etc

No you don't, if it just ended we're fúcked! We need about 5 players right now, I'd settle for 2, but I'm not very hopeful that we'll get any!

Meh, Arshavin ain't gonna turn our season around magically.
I'd rather hold onto the money

No, but neither will a defensive midfielder on his own either! If we don't get both (types of players), I'm not going to be too hopeful about our finish to the season! Let's face it, by turning around our season we mean finishing at least 4th and having a decent run in the cups while winning nothing AGAIN...it's so depressing!

Fair point. But I'd rather we shore up our defence than add another attacker.

Our depth in attackers/attacking midfielders: Adebayor, RVP, Bendtner, Vela, Eduardo, Walcott, Nasri, Walcott, Fabregas.

Our depth in defensive midfielders: Denilson, Song, Bischoff.

Our depth in attackers/attacking central midfielders: Adebayor, RVP, Bendtner, Vela, Eduardo, Walcott, Nasri, Walcott So good you named him twice :D, Fabregas, Rosicky, Ramsey, Diaby (even though he's played on the wing)

Our depth in defensive midfielders: Denilson, Song, Bischoff.

Granted, I feel that a DM should be a priority, but I don't think we have adequate cover for AM right now either with Rosicky and Fabregas out and I would welcome either type of player!

With Eduardo, Rosicky and Walcott all coming back Arshavin might be a bit excessive. Especially when there are other parts of the squad which need much more strenghtening.

We have plenty of striking options but I'd still like to see another Nasri/Rosicky/Arshavin type. Someone who more naturally plays wide than Eduardo, Walcott, Van Persie or Vela who are all strikers that are often mentioned as wide midfield players/cover. Likewise, I hate seeing Diaby, Denilson or Ramsey (though Ramsey less so) playing wide and want to sign players that mean it won't have to happen in future.

I agree that a defensive midfielder would be great (Bischoff's not one, by the way) but if there isn't one of sufficient quality available, I'd still rather address a problem in the squad if we can - even if it's not the main one. And personally, I think that either Wenger's not convinced by Veloso or, more likely, Veloso won't be going anywhere for now.

    breaking news on ssn

zenit have said they will except 15 million for Arshavin

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,476 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

Is that all they said? They said they agreed a fee 2 days ago, but Arshavin's wage demands were holding up the transfer, not the fee.

Edit: Article says Zenit are now willing to take £15m in a one off payment, I'm guessing that means they'll drop the €2.5 million payment they wanted from Arshavin, which means he can drop his wage demands.

However they've basically increased the fee from £12m + £3m based on requirements, all of that paid in installments, to £15m outright in a one off payment. How they think that's a compromise I'll never know. Anyways it's probably bullshít and I'm getting pretty sick of all this, so that's the last article I'll comment on. On Feb 1st he'll either be an Arsenal player or he won't, simple as that.

Zenit are chancers of the highest order. As is Arshavin's agent methinks, and maybe the player himself.

They all scented a big-money deal in the summer, Zenit bought Danny for about 20m and now it's proving hard for the club and player to both balance their books. Despite the fact that both club and player seem to want a deal done.

I'm taking the Wenger approach and not believing anything till I see it.

Yay! Got my tickets for the Fulham game (28th Feb) today. I'm thinking of booking a Stadium tour for the day before, has anyone here done the tour and if so would you recommend it? Is it worth doing?

    Thanks.

The tour is fantastic. You shoudn't have to book it though. I bought my ticket in the club shop 20 minutes before the tour starts.

    Shag!!!!

    Diaby OUT!!!!!!!

(Don't blame him for the goal but tonight has convinced me he's not near good enough. Can't pass the ball, can't defend - how exactly is he a central midfielder????)

Ah, panic over, Eboue's on - that should sort it out. :(:(

Hopefully Bendtner can keep up his scoring as a sub party trick

Did not deserve the draw! Very poor performance!

Lucky that Almunia saved that chance at 1-0 - although he was lucky.
