Good point, I suppose you could say it's the same with anti-smokers. **** thinking they know what's best for you (and I'm too cool to even take on board that they're right )

Maybe part of the reason this medication has appeared in the first place is the diet trend that appreared a few years ago. People on magazine covers weiging about as much as the apple quarter they ate for breakfast. Means that people who are deemed overweight are forced to believe that they'll need to cut 90% of food out of their lives when all they need to do is eat better things. Look at France and Italy etc... Their food is brilliant, really healthy and it shows on the people. And they hardly starve themselves. This "medication" is a fecking waste of money and time and is just seen as an easy solution. Yet another way of pharmecutical companies to rob the public.

Has to be a load of twaddle. And it further compounds the issue of a lot of overweight people not taking responsibility for themselves.

Wow! Overweight people all over the country must be ecstatic at this astounding discovery!

People have neuroses, weaknesses, unhealthy compulsions and so on. Alcoholism, compulsive gambling, OCD etc., are all invisible pathologies that sufferers can conceal from the general public.

The fat are just unfortunate in that their particular weakness is on display so vividly. It is part of our genetic hardwiring to be turned off by weakness and obvious bad health, so a lot of people find fatness disgusting.

A bit like junkies. People are pretty revolted by them when they see them shambling around, even though they are too messed up to do anyone any harm.

The guy standing beside you at the bus stop might be a murderer or a rapist for all you know, but it is the obvious signs of sickness and weakness that turn your stomach.

I don't think anyone hates fat people, and is trying to victimise them.

Oh believe you me, they are around here! :)

But yes, excess lard is disgusting to most - and I'm sure nobody knows that better than those who are overweight. Once the person's ok as an individual though, I really don't get why they deserve to be bullied.

Of course they don't deserve to be bullied; nobody does.

You must be referring to something outside this thread which I haven't seen. I didn't think the comments so far were bullying, they were just people expressing their true feelings.

It is true that fat people would probably feel bad if they saw what people thought about them, but, like you say yourself, they already know that this is what people think.

If these pills come in burger form from McDonald's it's win all round. The only problem as I see it is fatties going hell for leather eating burgers non stop and ending up with bulimia.

The 'obesity virus' has been reported as far back as 1997, why is it hitting the news now? http://www.accessexcellence.org/WN/SUA09/obesity497.php

Also, I didn't see anything in any of the linked articles about pills, where are people getting that from? The articles all say pretty much the same thing, that up to 30% of obese people could be infected with the obesity virus. However, that still leaves 70% who aren't

Surely this is proof that there is a God!!

Nope, just proof that some will always take the easy way out and reach for a pill.
No wonder the drugs industry rakes in huge profits!

I don't see why anyone would want to go about it the hard way if given a choice. It's against the natural order of things to not take the easy way out.

...because medically and more important genetically, its proving to be bad for us.

Got a problem? Reach for a pill.
Got a worry? Reach for a pill.
Feeling down? Reach for a pill.
Lose some weight? Reach for a pill.
Not eating the right foods? Reach for a pill.
Want to stop smoking? Reach for a pill.
Want to have more sex? Reach for a pill.
All blocked up? Reach for a pill.
    ...and on and on...

There are many, many genuine cases where pills are a godsend - but they should not always be the first port of call for an answer.
You know sometimes in the long run, it is better to put in the hard work too.

I mentioned they are bad for us genetically. Its been shown that we are are progressing as a breed called "human", our bodies are with further generations growing resistant to more important life saving drugs. Our bodies are so used to drugs now that a barrier at genetic base code level is strengthening.
Stronger and stronger drugs are now finding it hard to do their work because our bodies are rejecting them. We have built up a resistance or saturation point to them, not enabling them to let them do their vital work.

What pisses me off about this pill story is that drug companies will invest millions in this, when more exercise and less food would have the same effect, because they can earn millions on it. All the while diseases like malaria and sleeping sickness are being ignored because poor people are the ones that get those diseases.

Then again we're currently in a recession, so maybe people just won't have the spare cash to waste on pills (then again, they won't be able to afford gym memberships either)

All very true, but one of natures most basic tools for survival is to take the easy route. It's programed into every living thing on the planet. We can't help ourselfs.

They could go for a walk/run?

Aaa yep, we can. Its called will-power (not pill-power). Some should at least try it sometime - some will fail but some WILL also be better off for succeeding.

Ah, but that's a bit TOO obvious. Like eating less is too obvious, much better to buy pills off the internet! Seriously though, I think people have been convinced that they need to help to lose weight/get fit. Maybe the rise in bus fares will force people to walk a bit more?

The overweight and cronically obese pay the price in the long term for their situation's with their health , image and self esteem issues .The pill might help but it wont stop the weight if the person taking it isint prepared to exercise and cut down on the overeating ,which is the cause of the ' problem ' in the first place .We are ment to and should eat to live , not live to eat .

I've still never understood why being overweight/obese/etc. is some kind of issue or problem for OTHER people?

I'm fat. Let me deal with that. You worry about your own problems

    Fat bastard.

If you consume more mass than you excrete - through ****, piss, sweat, menstrual fluid, puke, etc. - you will gain weight.

If your intake and output are equal, then you will neither gain nor lose weight.

If your output exceeds your intake, you will lose weight.

    Simple.

Virus my ass... What a load of crap. There was no fat "virus" 20 years ago. Where did we get this virus from? Someone fcuked a monkey? People are fat because they eat too much rubbish food and don't work it off. Ok, I know there are actual diseases that affect weight and that (somehow). This is insane though. What does the tablet do, lift your arms and legs, makes you exercise while you're asleep?

All this pill crap wasn't here 20+ years ago. What did people do then?

Personally I never take pills for anything other than a headache. Sometimes for a cold or flu. Let your body sort it out, it will be better for you in the long run.

Fcuking scientists MUPPETS. Not looking at simple under their nose facts. More than likely looking at family lines, genes and other rubbish. There are lots of influencing factors...

    Take skinny and fatty.

Why is skinny slim and why is fatty obese.

Skinny eats proper food, healthy and provides the body with what it needs.

Fatty eats prosessed junk dosed in fat and has less vitamins and nutrients.

Skinny excersises, walks the dog, goes to the gym, has sex etc etc.

Fatty sits on his hole all day, only exercise he gets is a walk to the toilet or hand to mouth action.

    Skinny has a fast metobelism.

    Fatty has a slow one.

Skinny eats and sleeps regular patterns.

Fatty doesn't. Eats at irregular hours and doesn't get enough sleep.

Bla bla bla... have they looked at these kind of factors?

We didn't know that there was a HPV virus either, until we found it.

    They're kinda small.

No - it's called evolution and survival of the fittest.
I doubt we'll see the same problem in future generations after the people who are fat due to laziness and lack of education die out..

I work with a lad who eats chipper food nearly everyday for lunch and sometimes goes to a chinese all you can eat were he has 2 plates. He always says he has big pizzas at home. He does go to football training but i'm not sure how regular.

He is tall and very skinny. Some of what you are saying is basic truths, i don't believe its as black and white.

BTW: i worked with another lad who eat big bars of chocolate throughout the day washed down with coke. He was tall and skinny aswell but did go to the toilet alot to poop

This is absolutely, completely, 100% wrong.

It has nothing to do with how much you excrete.

With all due respect, if you are going to post from the point of view of being right about what you are saying, you should really make sure you are right.

+1. He is on the right track though. He just needs to add in the minute detail of how many calories a person burns and so on. :D
