This is my first thread in here so go easy on me if this has been done before.

I recently bought a house and talking with some friends jokes about bars, bowling allys etc being put in our house went around.

Just wanted to know what mad ideas you had in your heads when buying a house or ones you might of had as a kid about things you would make/have in your house?

    A bomb shelter. Seriously.

I'd like one to get away from the rest of the world for a few days every so often.
No tv, radio or internet. Just me, a few books and some beans.

This would be underneath the house I build when I win the lotto.

My house should be made of lego, that way I can extend it myself if ever I need to, no builders! However, much of my furniture and decorations will have to be square.

That or a house made of sweets...and a good few crazy dogs out front to keep the kids away

That would be a very very very fine house.

A friend has a house with a swimming pool in the basement. The problem is that when you heat the pool the entire house gets damp with condensation and because the pool is in the basement it gets no direct heat during the summer. If he wants to swim he has to wear a wetsuit. Not exactly the look he intended when he was planning on inviting the ladies to his pool parties.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

Actually Id love one of those houses with a huuuuuuuge library and secret passages all over the place.

Instead of a room that had a bed, I'd ideally like a room that WAS a big bed essentially. One huge room sized matress with loads of pillows and quilts in there. If I could combine this idea with post #4 I don't think I could be happier really.

Barring that, a sitting room with a double decker couch for shared houses is something I have contemplated in the past.

I'd like a house like Mingey's and totally off-grid (not impossible with a little bit of money).

Huge library, small cinema, games room, big big garden with lots of trees and a walled vegetable and fruit garden.

Secret passages and hiding places were what I would have liked when I was a kid. Heck I'd still love them. I wouldn't mind a full size snooker table as well, although I can't play for toffee.

there was a website that was selling abandoned american missile bases from the 50-60's. That would be pretty sweet.

    But I want a castle

Stephen Fry met the people who ran that company in America. Mad idea. But cool....in a odd way.

    Saw that alright.
They said companies were buying them to use for data storage in case there's another 9/11 type crash.

I'd definitely buy one of them if I could.

I'd love a bathroom that was actually an exotic garden, complete with waterfall shower and sunken jacuzzi rock pool and glass ceiling to watch the night sky from.

Sounds good, but you would want to be able to open up the window when you are nice and warm in your pool, otherwise it would be all steamed up.

Oh yeah, you gotta have that.

And a room, with Christian Bale in it.

And a room thats basically a bouncy castle with loads of funky lights.

    And an underground paintball maze.

I could live with that. :D

I just want a room to house a full size snooker table and flanked by a well-stocked bar accompanied with a personalised neon sign reading "Docbox'".

    Or maybe "The Blue Oyster."

Large flat screen TV and wall mounts for me guitars in the room too.

A treehouse in the woods in the mountains, miles away from anyone but with plenty of space for books.

One day I'm seriously gonna build it and go live like a hermit

Make the gaff multi-story with a big water slide that went from the top room round and round the house to the bottom. Like that ad where the lad hops in the water slide in the office and heads home.

Also +1 for an underground bomb shelter.

Remember the cartoon Ducktales where Scrooge McDuck had this huge vaulted room with all his money in it and he'd spend all day swimming through the notes? I'd love a room with a shoe-wearing duck swimming through cash.

Panic/Safe room. Its a pain once in a while (4/6 months) having to restock some items but heck, kids will be safe.
