It's really hard to tell where memes originate. A lot of credit is given to 4chan, somethingawful and...that other place I can't remember the name of...but a lot of the time I'd say it's nothing to do with any of them.

I've been to it two or three times, and was disgusted by it everytime. It's a horrible website where the sicko dregs of the internet post pictures of the nastiest/disturbing stuff you can find and make jokes out of it.

rickrolling came from duckrolling which originated from neogaf(<3 the GAF)
duckroll is an admin on there. neogaf is (primarily) a video gaming forum, although their off topic forum is fantastic as well, its pretty much the complete opposite of 4chan in many regards

as for most meme's(pronounced meems) they come from random places and then get run into the ground on 4chan/neogaf/random other sites. until they become accepted norms on the internet

The day they shut down 4chan is the day freedom on the internet and freedom of ideas takes a serious blow. I love it, it's the best and worst of the internet. The most retarded thing is the f*ckers who think /b/ is a secret club where everyone is like minded and working to the same ideals. That just isn't the case.
