Groutch .... You are about 2 months too late.

    The 'loophole' has been fixed.

Booked for less than 200 euro (All in) Cork - LAX on 3 different dates...Nov 08, Jan 09 and June 09.

Mods - Would it now be a good idea to close this thread ?

Why would this thread be closed? The price I got (yesterday) Dublin-Gatwick-Orlando with Air Lingus and BA is about €500 cheaper than going through the companies own site. I don't think that has anything to do with a 'loophole'.

That was what some people said two months ago but it is nonsense tbh. I read the same stuff about the loophole being closed and I still managed to get return flights to NYC for €192.

So there is absolutely no need to close this thread. Everyone just has to realise that this is not available all of the time and you have to keep checking.

I second that. And you have to ALWAYS click right through to get the best deals IMHO as that is what I always do.

Maybe it would be an idea to give some sample date of when people booked and maybe the deals are still there for those dates. Just an idea.

yes please dont close this thread - the info is all really helpful!!

the flights i'm getting are the same price, or a little bit more than what Air Lingus and BA are offering but i'm hoping they will go down. fingers crossed!!

also, if anyone sees the cheap flights could they let us know dates etc - so we can all pounce :D

I have been looking for prices for travel to new york for next summer for 8 people. I have got quotes from all the sites mentioned on this thread, the cheapest I am getting is €3,800 averaging at €475 a head.

Is this a reasonable price do you think, its for two weeks at the beginning of July or should I hang on and wait a while to book?

I'm on a bit of an apprenticeship here learning about flights etc, never being abroad before.

    Thanks for any help

Did anyone who booked with cheapflights have any difficulties when travelling (e.g. paying additional fuel surcharge, etc)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,852 ✭✭✭ncmc

Just wanted to add, that I was able to get the same price through Expedia, maybe people would be happier booking with them rather than cheaptickets.com.

Got back yesterday from New York with CheapTickets. Flew Dublin to Gatwick with Aer Lingus, Gatwick to JFK with British Airways. Both return legs were with British Airways. 3 return tickets for 540 euro. Able to manage booking on-line with BA, including check in & used auto check-in at new Aer Lingus facility in Dublin. No problems, no hassle & no extra charges :D

No problems for me the price on the website was the final price for me. Saved a nice few quid using cheaptickets.com

Hi LisaO, how did you check in with aer lingus? Just a passport or did you use a booking reference? What baggage allowance do you get, was it the same as BA's? Did you have to collect your bags a Gatwick? Cheers

Hi Kazzer. Used Aer Lingus booking ref to check in at Dublin - they have new check-in area with touch screen terminals which print your boarding pass, etc - it was very simple & straightforward. Baggage allowance was full BA allowance & bags were checked right through, so no need to collect at Gatwick.

I looked at flights on cheaptickets.com when I was booking a trip to the States and, while the ex-"taxes" and charges prices were very good, the actual "taxes" and charges were higher than anywhere else.

Clubtravel.ie is very good for cheap flights.

I got a return to SFO last June for 410Euro inc Tax etc and a return to Vegas next month for Euro410 inc all taxes and charges

They seem to have the largest choice of airlines and routing which means that they can get the cheapest flights.

They are also an Irish registered travel agent and are fully bonded etc and they have a shop in Abbey Street if you need to talk to them

Their customer service is excellent and they always respond to e-mails as soon as possible

Yeah but nobody beats cheaptickets once you get them at the right time. You just have to be patient and keep checking and you can get return to NY from under €200 including taxes. But it is not available all of the time.

Has anybody travelled with the Aer Lingus/ Virgin Atlantic combination in the last month or so? I went onto the Virgin site yesterday and using the flight number issued by cheaptickets.com I was able to change my seats, order specific meals and fill in the U.S. immigration forms in advance, which I'm hoping is going to be a big time saver. The only thing is,when I changed my seats and requested a new e-ticket from Virgin it said it could only send it to the original e-mail the flights were booked with.As I did'nt book directly with them I have'nt got a clue what e-mail they have and when I went to check the seats on cheaptickets.com this morning, we were still allocated the original seats we had when booking.I'd like to get this sorted as the last thing I need is a mix-up with the seats and both sets to be sold because 1 site or the other thinks they are empty!

Got a flight to Vegas for my birthday in November for €262 via http://www.unitedairlines.co.uk Yes I know its nearly a year away but I like to plan! United do not take Irish credit cards on the site but do if you call the reservation number on this page http://www.unitedairlines.co.uk/local/english/customerservice/index.html

They do charge £10 for booking over the phone rather than on the website,

I just booked a week in Chicago in March with cheaptickets. Just wondering if anyone else has booked a package through them, and how it worked out? Seems to good to be true as we're getting flights plus 7 nights in a really nice hotel (rated #2 hotel in Chicago on tripadvisor) all for €620 each.

I'm hoping there'll be no nasty surprises when we get to the hotel!

I stayed in Santa Monica - really liked it there. Great shops, great beach and full of beautiful people :)

You will need a car to get ANYWHERE in LA though as there is zero public transport - it took about an hour to drive to Hollywood.
