I posted this a few weeks ago in this thread, I think, it is not exact it is only intended as a rough guide and could be quite a bit out if loads more or less RCs applied this time!!!
For any one trying to work out there position in the "religious" merit pool if you know your over all position say for example 450, a little less than 30% of those in the pool are RC. So 30% of those above you should be Rc and 70% non RC. Divide 450 by 100 = 4.5 X 30 = 135. which will mean you are approximately 135 out of 220.

For non RC the same equation only replacing 30 with 70 = 315

This is not exact just based on all previous campaigns rolled together, I am not aware of how many people refuse an offer or fail medical or SMT and the percentages could vary substantially, its just a guide. for my sake I hope it is right!!

I may be barking up the wrong tree here, so please correct me if im wrong, but given that it will soon be 8 weeks til the march intake based on a 5 week intake, shood we be expecting calls to start goin out next week. apologies if someone has asked/answered this already, was too lazy to go back & check

The calls generally start going out about six weeks before each intake. That would have the calls for the 8 March intake starting to go out on 19 January.

You in contetion for a place on the March intake?

Waawaa, Integra. As long as it clears, you shouldn't be concerned. Anyway, the vetting will have cleared before you know it.

sent mine in at the end of october & will admit i was stressing about it a bit at the start cause like many others, i had no idea what stage it was at. but since findin out it only started in november a zen like calm has come over me. as my mum used to say "whatever will be will be"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,258 ✭✭✭carlty888

    "Zen-like calm?"

    That's a first for these boards! :D

im trying it out for a wile....see how it goes for me:D

i think calmness is the way forward - a watched kettle never boils, so a stressed out potential PSNI recruit never gets picked. now if you'll excuse me, i must return to the lotus position. ooooooommmm

Just wondering if anyone could tell me whether the following is correct. Obviously no ones certain especially with the way things went with the budget this year, but what im asking is, generally speaking is the following correct.

    440 get in
    220 each side

    about 50 each intake
    so about 8 intakes then

As far as im aware the first intake was in October and with a diffence of 6 weeks between each intake, should it go like this:

    Oct 5th (?)
    Nov 16th
    Dec 28th
    Feb 1st
    March 8th
    April 19th
    May 31st
    July 12th

There were only a few people from C14 who were in the November intake. I don't know of any C14 recruits in the October intake.

The intakes run every 5 weeks with about 50-55 people on each one. The next intakes are suposed to be on 1 February, 8 March, 12 April and 17 May. There's normally a month break from recruitment around the start of July too.

The calls start to go out 6 weeks before each intake. That would mean that the next round of calls should be going out w/c 19 January. <fingers crossed>

A total of 440 will be recruited from C14. 220 RC, 220 non-RC. I think there are 9 intakes in total. Apparently this is to facilitate deferals etc (there were quite a few people from C13 on the December intake for example).

Im currently waiting on vetting. Its in about 3 months now. Passed everything else. Rather than putting my life on hold waiting on the call I have went ahead and booked a 2 week holiday to France in June with family. IF i do get the call before then is it possible to defer to after holiday???

Don't worry. If you get the call, you will be able to defer until after the holiday. You will have to provide copies of ticket receipts (or something to that effect) as proof, but that shouldn't be too difficult.

Thanks for that Carlty!!. It may be the last holiday in a long time. Have to make the most of it!!! Heres hoping!!

I was on the phone in work today and my mobile started ringing from a withheld number. I pretty much hung up on the guy I was speaking to, just to answer it.

It was only my Gran, I got myself so excited for nothing. I know its to early for the March calls but I still can't help myself getting excited.

When will it all be over!!!!

ARRRGGGHHH!!! That's an awful feeling. It's even worse when you miss the damn call and spend weeks wondering!

I know it totally sucked, I got all butterfly's in my stomach. The rest of a day was pretty much went down hill from there.

I am going to get sooooooooo drunk if I ever get in.

My New Years Res. was to cut out the beer at the weekends. Last weekend was the first without any beer........cold turkey!!

I rang appointments today and found out that my vetting had cleared! The small print on my New Years Rezy specifically stated that the next time alchohol should pass my lips was in the event of good news or bad news from the psni.................

When do the calls go out for March?? I'm choking with thirst!

I had a bit of time on my hands this morning as you can see. So I just did this table using the 30% 70% estimation. Using that I worked out at what point we would be call depending on merit number and background. Now this does not allow for drop out medical or vetting failure. in fact its a complete guess!!

    Number of Can
    54
    108
    162
    216
    270
    324
    378
    432

    Start dates Merit Number Non RC 28th Dec No 1 - 38 1st Feb No 38- 77 08th Mar No77 -115 12th Apr No115 - 154 17th May No154 - 192 21st june No 192 -231 02nd August No 231 - 270 6th Sept No270 - 309

    Start dates Merit Number RC 28th Dec No1- 90 1st Feb No 90 -180 08th Mar No 180 - 270 12th Apr No 270 - 360 17th May No 360 - 450 21st june No 450 - 540 02nd August No 540 - 630 6th Sept No 630 - 720

Was trying to put this in as a better table but you get the idea

That's pretty cool! And tbh I would say that deferrals balance out drop outs in any intake so the only difference might be on the margins where you might move forward one or back one.

Nice work there. My hopes are even higher for March now though! :D

Good work Owen. I thought I was the only one with too much time on my hands!!:D

I would've guessed that the amount of people failing medicals, vetting, SMTs and dropping out would've been about 10-15%. Don't forget that there were a lot of people who didn't show for the medicals.
