I had this problem, you have to install microsoft activesync to use the sync app.

I got the voucher key and now have it updated, seems to work quite well, fantastic bargain at 40eur! Thanks to the OP!

@byte - How did you manage to get the voucher? I mean did you call or just mail to support. Number/email id? What you needed to do to convince them?

You got voucher code for which version of maps?

I am looking to get it for mini as well. Any help will be much appreciated.

I did what "thenobody" said to do here:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=58333320&postcount=134

Emailed them the screenshot and scan of receipt. Got the voucher key after a few days. Maps are Q3 2008.

A digital photo of the receipt would probably do too.

still waiting on my code in fact.

there are loads of the Maxi ones available in Blanch Halfords still.
Id recommend the widescreen over the 3.5" one any day

Why do you think the maxi is better. Any extra feature apart from the bigger screen? It's nearly double the price as well, €70 as compared to €40.

I'd be inclined to say the 3.5" is a better option as it takes up less room on windscreen, therefore not obstructing visibility as much. I used the mini for 2 days in London this week and it was excellent.

yup that worked, now it's asking me for a voucher code even for the 2007 maps. i've emailed support to get the 08 maps

I picked up the maxi version today in Blanchardstown for €69 .. put TomTom on it .. works a treat.

Does anyone know of an application that can be run at startup so that you can choose which navigator app you want to use ?

Look for one called system information or airistool or wolfncu
    They'll do it

got a maxi today, not sure wether to keep R66 with Q3 maps or slap tomtom onto it.

Just wondering guys, I bought the navman f10 and i see a lot of discussion about vouchers/codes for the route66 to update the maps-would this apply also to the navman, would it be worth my while contacting them to see if i could get the maps updated for free(i think they are 2007)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 334 ✭✭thenobody

Maybe. That f10 has been discontinued for well over a year now so I doubt it.

Weeder, you choose any software r66, tomtom, garmin xt, igo8, sygic, navigon mobile navigator, destinator, plus many more

But as I said igo8 is by a mile the best. Don't understand why you all want tom tom. It's so basic

I got one of the 3.5" Route66's, it only has internal memory of 8mb, will that be enough to run igo8?? If so do you know what version would suit best and which maps can be used with that version?

would you mind doing a walkthrough as to how to set igo8 up or is it the same as your tomtom walkthrough.
    what maps does igo8 use?
is it worth setting up if you're only going to be using basic travel functions (at least to start with anyway)?

    thanks for any help given

8Mb??? i think it has 64 Mb RAM
The flash disk section must be what you are talking about.

You wont get anything on that. You will need an SD card. Igo8 depends on what you add to it - can range from about 35mbs to about 300+ it you get the europe dem 3d landscape file. Ireland map is only 9Mbs though

It really is too complicated to post here. And that previous TomTom method you refer to is just to access WinCE to run any software - not just tomtom.
Adding tomtom is in fact more complex as there is many steps and you need to know where to get the right software version files. Tomtom from tomtom devices will not work.

IGo8 uses Navteq (Q4 2008) and teleatlas (Q3 2008) maps now. Have checked both and teleatlas is by far the better maps for Ireland.
The Navteq building and poi files however are better. Both can be used together.
Teleatlas has way more lane information and road sign information. also Navteq is missing places that Teleatlas has - Navteq doesnt even have the new layout for the N4/M50 junction. teleatlas have had this for over a year now.

But as i said sat navs are much better for other countries and you can get the whole world for iGo8 really easy

Thanks thenobody for your previous post - your'e spot on! I was looking at the flashdisk size and mistaking it for RAM. Got the Tom Tom software to work recently but think its actually worse than the Route66. You say this is more difficult, i presume you're talking about getting the keygen for the maps etc etc. Havn't really looked into getting igo8, is the principle the same??

I finally got the voucher key for Mini. Can someone please tell me how to use the voucher code. I mean how to get the latest maps using the sync software?

There's an option on the Sync software to enter it on one of the dropdown menus.

I stuck it in at first, but nothing much happened. When I closed the app, then restarted it, reinserted my Mini, a dialog came up telling me I had a new Q3 2008 map update that was not on my satnav, and so I let it proceed at downloading and installing it.

    and for what its worth.......

we filmed a satnav feature for men&motors, under commission for SKYTV last november. Tom tom were contacted for a review piece (Jenny ) but guess what? a nice e-mail to say thanks for the interest!

i will include the mail here.....

    Dear Mr Eirlink

My colleague in customer service forwarded me your correspondence relating to Map Share, and she also mentioned that you were working on a feature for Sky. Please find below my contact details, should you have any further queries in the future.

Regarding your specific question on Map Share, our support team advised the following:

As per the link below, there are two menus relating to Map Share. At the top of the page are the menus which enable you to update and personalise your maps instantly, and further down the page you will find a number of options which do not take effect on your current map, but are reported to the map provider for verification. I believe you made the correction via the latter option, and if this is the case, the correction will be submitted the next time you are connected to TomTom Home and you will then 'receive' that correction back at some time in the near future, once it has been verified by the TomTom verification team.

    Above is our response

I hope this answers your question, but please don’t hesitate to contact me if you need any further details at all.

    With kind regards,

    Jenny *****

......well guess what......your indifference never made it past post-production !!

we shoved that into the trash can in final cut pro.......then passed it to SKY ( inc trash cans ) who further edited it in AVid.....

Thanks a lot for that. It worked exactly like you said :)

Did you delete the old map from Sat Nav? I mean if you see in the Sync program there are 2 maps now in the device and there is an option to delete the old map (if you select the map and right click).
