Has anyone found a website or shop (ROI/NI) with Humax Foxsat HDR IN STOCK?

    as the subject says.
they were going to €260, which is daylight robbery (no installation).

[correction: just the HD receiver, not the PVR]

    hope this helps

You should have bought one at that price - they are still £290+ in the UK.

    Thanks ffocused.

Thats good to know. He said he will run two cables for an extra €50 so i will probably go with that then.
I have sent an email to the box supplier to see whenit will be shipped. I realise that it is close to Christmas so I have myself psyched up to get it in the New year. It would be a bonus then for Christmas.

The 'shotgun cable' you are referring to will still use 2 of your lnb outputs, it is just 2 seperate cables stuck together.
Did you check if the hdr is actually in stock? as a lot of websites are taking orders while waiting for stock to arrive.

Cancelled my order with them toady as they have no stock.
This was the email I received after 2 days of email queries:

"We have a waiting list for these units - about 50
There are more deliveries to us before Xmas.
Orders are not charged until a day before we ship.
(We shipped out 15 last Tuesday)
However at the moment we cannot guarantee delivery before Christmas."

I would like to apologise to you.

No negative comment was intended and I can say that my dealings with you have been exemplary. You did explain that as the PVR is new that you did not have the twin cable but did offer to install with a double cable for a good price. You did offer to try and source one today and I do appreciate that.

As requested I am removing the above post as it is out of order and would highly recommend any doing business with your company.

I am sad that you will not now do business with me but fully understand you position.

    Regards

I'll be getting mine from Richersounds in Belfast (£299), probably towards the end of February. I'll be getting a good bit of other gear at the same time, so the trip up will easily be worth it.

How're those of you who already have theirs getting on with them?

What don't you like about them, if anything?

    Ordered mine from satellitesuperstore today.
Not in a rush to get it, need to get a quad lnb & cables first, then the problem of running the cables from the attic to the points in the house :)

Hi Lafors, where do you plan on getting your quad LNB?

FWIW, getting the sat cables into the house isn't so bad:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=57963197&postcount=12

I did this myself and I'm not particularly skilled, but I was doing work anyway, so getting the cables sorted was all part of the overall job.

If you're not doing any other work, it'd obviously involve exposed cables for at least some of their run, but that's not really a big deal, is it? Concealed cables is sort of a luxury, IMO.

Got one from satbuyer about 2 weeks ago but unfortunatley it arrived damaged. They have been the epitome in customer service sorting out a replacment unit which I'm expecting tomorrow.

    Mines just shipped from SatelliteSuperStore.com
I was 30th on a list of pre-orders - it will be interesting how they deliver it, I asked for it to be delivered to my work address and they seem to have shipped to my home address, which is in the back arse of no-where. No courier company can ever find it, hope they included my contact number

I had one ordered from satellite superstore.
Got an email on monday saying they had a new payment system and I needed to put my details in again, but they had it reserved and ready to ship to me.
So I went to the page (made sure it wasn't a hoax), and just happened to scroll down to the bottom of the page before clicking the checkout button at the top and realised that they've got the price at £329!!

So obviously I haven't put my details in again.
Can they do this seeing as I had given my details on the original price of £299?
I've emailed them asking why they increased the price but haven't gotten a reply.

They have increased the price on their website. If they try this stunt with me, I will cancel my order out of principal - technically you have an implied contract for the original price (299.99) so you could complain to consumer affairs in the UK. The RRP, at the old VAT rate, is 299.99, so anything on top of this is profiteering. People in the UK are able to get these in currys/dixons for around 265 with promotion codes (see digital spy).

I am very disappointed with satellitesuperstore; for relatively small amount of money, they are going to p1ss a lot of people off. I have recommended them to people in the past, but I wouldn't do it now.

Ask them to honour the original price or you will cancel your order. You could also threaten to complain to Humax or consumer affairs. I doubt they want to loose their "authorised Humax dealer" badge.

I only got charged the £299.95, still awaiting this package - they never said who they posted it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,038 ✭✭✭kuro_man

Mine arrived on Tuesday - I was charged £299.95. Apart for a few minor niggles, I think is a great bit of kit. Got the lnb wired yesterday with twin cable for full PVR support, and all is working brilliantly. Universal remote works very well with TV and DVD player.

Looks like Satellite Superstore has increased prices across the range - for example, I ordered a triax TD64 dish and wall-mount in May and they were £25 and £10 respectively, now they are £35 and £15. Even RG6 cable went from 25p/metre to 39p/metre. Maybe the weak Sterling is hitting home - they are all imported into the UK. Still, these are big increases.

I cant believe this doesnt have any RF out.

A major disadvantage I think. Dont want to have to go farting around with RF modulators just to get it around the house.

Anywho, box is great, need to run that extra cable for the Quad LNB I bought and I will be set.

Will this output regualar non HD channels through scart?
Can you record non HD content?
My DM7020 is on its last legs and I cannot afford a new HD TV as well as a receiver and was thinking of replacing the receiver first and the crt telly when I can afford it later.

You can record HD and SD content to the internal HDD - unsure about external USB drives/sticks, haven't done any testing with those yet with HD content.

Yep, it will output HD content via Scart. Of course yea won't get the full benefits etc etc via scart.

Just use a VCR as a modulator, yea only need one if yea wanna pipe the output via RF

    No RF Because:
    * It adds cost
    * No stereo on RF modulators (ever)
    * Poor quality compared with SCART
    * Not possible for HD
    * Newer TVs won't have analogue. A Digital Modulator is about €1,200 (However it will do 20 channels and stereo :) )
    * The trend is really for Home Cinema System. The TV becomes a Monitor.
    * Use a Multiswitch and a setbox / IRD TV at each place. A 16 way Sat distribution box is under €150. Each TV then can select channels independent.

A video sender works better than VCR as modulator. Also if Macrovision flag set the VCR won't work as an RF modulator. (Usually Sky Box office though)

The Humax will output HD channels via SCART (only composite - not RGB), or regular SD channels via SCART RGB. The reason for this degredation to composite is because Freesat have specified this. It's a pathetic attempt to restrict high-quality copies of HD material. Just impacts on the genuine home user.
The USB ports can be used to archive SD material to PC or whatever. You can use VLC to play back the .ts files which are output by the Humax. BBC HD programmes are encrypted by the Humax when stored on the hard disk, so you can't play them back on PC. This is because the BBC flag their HD content as copy protected which is why the box degrades the signal on SCART and encrypts the stream on disk. I think it's the same for ITV HD, but these programmes are few and far between, so I haven't verified.
Other than the iffy design of the remote (layout poor), it's a great piece of kit and can only improve with new firmware releases. The fast forward and fast rewind work a treat (unlike the p.o.s. SKY HD box which I've had for two years and which has now had a PSU failure) and you can skip through the ads on recorded programmes with just two clicks.

The HD restrictions are also why Component is useless for HD generally in Europe as the Broadcasters want HDCP on HDMI only for HD.

Sky+ and SkyHD you can't even playback or record even SD FTA without subscription and can't record ever via "other channels).

I've had BBC HD via S-Video from PC and also via RGB SCART from Lyngbox (both downconverted to SD) very nice on a regular TV.

Are you sure about Composite Vs RGB? I thought the restriction on non " HDCP enabled HDMI" was to do Standard Definition on Freesat. Why should it be degraded to LOWER quality than the same channel in SD?
