Nothing in NI as yet and this is an example of the sort of fun people are having in the UK.

Looks like there is a big delivery this weekend - I'm going up north next week so will try then.

went to Currys and Argos in Lisburn on Saturday - no foxsat hdr freesat+ boxes in stock. Bloke in Currys reckons they won't have them before christmas - he told me the best bet was to order on-line.
Uk on-line stores (that deliver to the Republic) have no stock either!

superfi.co.uk charge £30stg to deliver to ROI and say you go into a queueing system for these.
They say the lead in time is 7 to 10 working days so tight for Xmas.
Your card isn't charged they say untill dispatch.
    Hth.

There is 1 currently on ebay.ie. There are about 7 on ebay.co.uk but they are restricted to buyers in the UK. However, if you email the sellers and ask if they would be willing to sell to Ireland provided that you would pay all postage costs, you'll usually find one or two who'll oblige.

Expect to pay a premium above the RRP on ebay as demand is high and supply is low - it depends how badly you want it before xmas.

new stock is due this weekend apparently, so I try again next week from reliable supplier. I got most of my gear from satelittesuperstore.co.uk and they've been excellent. Mad crazy website, but good service. Delivery is much more reasonable too.

I am not going to pay above retail price on e-bay from a profiteer - for a possibly stolen unit or one with no guarantee.

I've made an order with the same site - which needs a redesign.
Bit of a back order though (30+)

Don't know if this much use now, but I managed to snag one from southernsat.co.uk at 6.30pm yesterday (phone order). £299 plus £30 shipping to Ireland. That's about €375 all in all. He'd only just got 5 in stock, and I'd say they were all sold in 20 minutes or less.

Maybe worth keeping an eye on the site though. Don't know when he'll be getting the next batch in, but you could always call to see.

Now I need to finally get round to installing the Quad and running the wires I bought from Tony almost 3 months ago in preparation!

Hi, don't know any Irish distributor but got mine yesterday from satellite Superstore in UK, still playing around with it. Obviously it cant be the same as Sky, takes a bit of getting used to but overall it does what it says on the tin!:D

If you don't mind me asking - when did you order? I didn't think they had any stock:(

Ordered it on November 26th, I was 8th in line for getting it was sent on the 8th with Parcelforce 24, arrived on 12th, but was in delivery van for two days as he said it was at the back of a van full on a million small boxes!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,711 ✭✭✭fat-tony

Ordered mine on 10th. I thought that the supply situation would have eased, seeing as they recovered most of that lorryload that was stolen, but it looks like Argos got the major share. Argos are showing out of stock in their stores in NI at the mo'. Hopefully there will be another delivery to satsuperstore before the Christmas.:)

Got rid of my Sky a few months ago, the loss of the sky+ system was all I missed as only seemed to watch the freeview channels anyway. Very happy with mine. Hope yours comes soon...

As it was delivered after december 1st did you get the 2.5% vat reduction? Or did they greedily pocket that?

    Thats one to watch!

I've had SKY HD since it came out, p***es me off that I can't record BBC HD or BBC3/4 on the SKY box. Rarely watch movies, so it's time to terminate the SKY sub;)

Well, technically they should be charging the RoI VAT rate (21.5%), so the less said the better:DPlus the exchange rate is very favourable and improving all the time!

    No.

You buy something in the UK including online purchases and it is subject to UK VAT not Irish VAT even when delivered to the ROI.
So the rate should have went down from 17.5% to 15%.

Except when said company trades over a threshold (€35,000 in most cases) in to the country. That's why Amazon charge 21/21.5% VAT, for example. More detail on the Revenue's site. Sky seem to charge 21/21.5% on commercial subs, and on equipment, but not on residential subs. I don't know why that is, because I would have thought they'd come under distance-selling, but I'm sure they've a good reason / exception.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,037 ✭✭✭kuro_man

Ordered mine last night from satellitesuperstore.co.uk - they charged the full £299.99 rather than the new VAT reduced price, but they only charge £15 delivery, which is much better than most, so it balances out.

(VAT @ 15% would work out at £293.60, so only a £6.40 reduction.)

Exactly - that the way I was thinking. Any of the big distance sellers all use the Irish VAT rate. Amazon restrict the sale of a lot of electrical items to Ireland also - assume it's something to do with WEEE:D

Checked my invoice, still charged £299 inclusive of 15%vat but as mentioned delivery was only £12.95. Can't complain. Now I've had it a few days I'm all over it! Have remote tuned in to work my pioneer AV receiver, Pioneer DVR-LX61D (the HDD/DVD Recorder- handy for recording TV3, RTE and is my DVD player too) and my TV. Have put away all other remotes now, at last!

Have figured out how to view both modes too, freesat and non freesat. Have to say the instruction manual isn't the best it assumes a lot.

Overall very happy with it, fantastic!

Get an e-mail for satellitesuperstore - the humax foxsat hdr is out of stock and may not be dispatched in time for christmas. Bugger.

The 'shotgun cable' you are referring to will still use 2 of your lnb outputs, it is just 2 seperate cables stuck together.
Did you check if the hdr is actually in stock? as a lot of websites are taking orders while waiting for stock to arrive.

they were going to €260, which is daylight robbery (no installation).

[correction: just the HD receiver, not the PVR]

You should have bought one at that price - they are still £290+ in the UK.

    Thanks ffocused.

Thats good to know. He said he will run two cables for an extra €50 so i will probably go with that then.
I have sent an email to the box supplier to see whenit will be shipped. I realise that it is close to Christmas so I have myself psyched up to get it in the New year. It would be a bonus then for Christmas.

Cancelled my order with them toady as they have no stock.
This was the email I received after 2 days of email queries:

"We have a waiting list for these units - about 50
There are more deliveries to us before Xmas.
Orders are not charged until a day before we ship.
(We shipped out 15 last Tuesday)
However at the moment we cannot guarantee delivery before Christmas."

I would like to apologise to you.

No negative comment was intended and I can say that my dealings with you have been exemplary. You did explain that as the PVR is new that you did not have the twin cable but did offer to install with a double cable for a good price. You did offer to try and source one today and I do appreciate that.

As requested I am removing the above post as it is out of order and would highly recommend any doing business with your company.

I am sad that you will not now do business with me but fully understand you position.

    Regards

I'll be getting mine from Richersounds in Belfast (£299), probably towards the end of February. I'll be getting a good bit of other gear at the same time, so the trip up will easily be worth it.

How're those of you who already have theirs getting on with them?

What don't you like about them, if anything?

    Ordered mine from satellitesuperstore today.
Not in a rush to get it, need to get a quad lnb & cables first, then the problem of running the cables from the attic to the points in the house :)

Hi Lafors, where do you plan on getting your quad LNB?

FWIW, getting the sat cables into the house isn't so bad:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=57963197&postcount=12

I did this myself and I'm not particularly skilled, but I was doing work anyway, so getting the cables sorted was all part of the overall job.

If you're not doing any other work, it'd obviously involve exposed cables for at least some of their run, but that's not really a big deal, is it? Concealed cables is sort of a luxury, IMO.

Got one from satbuyer about 2 weeks ago but unfortunatley it arrived damaged. They have been the epitome in customer service sorting out a replacment unit which I'm expecting tomorrow.

    Mines just shipped from SatelliteSuperStore.com
I was 30th on a list of pre-orders - it will be interesting how they deliver it, I asked for it to be delivered to my work address and they seem to have shipped to my home address, which is in the back arse of no-where. No courier company can ever find it, hope they included my contact number

I had one ordered from satellite superstore.
Got an email on monday saying they had a new payment system and I needed to put my details in again, but they had it reserved and ready to ship to me.
So I went to the page (made sure it wasn't a hoax), and just happened to scroll down to the bottom of the page before clicking the checkout button at the top and realised that they've got the price at £329!!

So obviously I haven't put my details in again.
Can they do this seeing as I had given my details on the original price of £299?
I've emailed them asking why they increased the price but haven't gotten a reply.

They have increased the price on their website. If they try this stunt with me, I will cancel my order out of principal - technically you have an implied contract for the original price (299.99) so you could complain to consumer affairs in the UK. The RRP, at the old VAT rate, is 299.99, so anything on top of this is profiteering. People in the UK are able to get these in currys/dixons for around 265 with promotion codes (see digital spy).

I am very disappointed with satellitesuperstore; for relatively small amount of money, they are going to p1ss a lot of people off. I have recommended them to people in the past, but I wouldn't do it now.

Ask them to honour the original price or you will cancel your order. You could also threaten to complain to Humax or consumer affairs. I doubt they want to loose their "authorised Humax dealer" badge.

I only got charged the £299.95, still awaiting this package - they never said who they posted it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,037 ✭✭✭kuro_man

Mine arrived on Tuesday - I was charged £299.95. Apart for a few minor niggles, I think is a great bit of kit. Got the lnb wired yesterday with twin cable for full PVR support, and all is working brilliantly. Universal remote works very well with TV and DVD player.

Looks like Satellite Superstore has increased prices across the range - for example, I ordered a triax TD64 dish and wall-mount in May and they were £25 and £10 respectively, now they are £35 and £15. Even RG6 cable went from 25p/metre to 39p/metre. Maybe the weak Sterling is hitting home - they are all imported into the UK. Still, these are big increases.
