:D I expect this'll be of interest to those of you in and around Cork city. I'm picking up video for RTÉ1, RTÉ2, TV3 and TG4 from Spur Hill. No EPG info at the mo.

Fingers crossed it won't be too erratic, but I guess we can't expect much as it is just a test.

Edit: Also radio (Radio1, 2FM, Lyric and RnaG)

    Brilliant!

    Thanks, ash_kay!

I'm getting EPG info using ProgDVB. Screenshot here: http://i40.tinypic.com/bhio0z.png

Excellent - thanks plazzTT. I think my setup needs a little more tweaking :) Will check out ProgDVB, and others, now that I know my tv card works with MPEG4.

damn, I'm not sure if the Spur Hill signal is strong enough for me, or the generic usb stick I have is a POS, what are good programs for scanning ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,354 ✭✭✭radiospan

Might be mentioned already, but they're just using CH49 for this mux. (4 video + 4 audio)

@parasite: I'm using DVB Dream now. Most of the others need you to pay before it decodes H264/AVC video.

BTW analog RTE2 and TV3 reception from Woodcock Hill are even worse this evening than they have been for the past couple of days - and I have a 14-element Yagi, direct line of sight and only a few miles away.

They must be using miniscule power output up there.

    Glad tests end on Friday.

Yep, I noticed that too MtM :(
    Bring on Friday...
I've been thinking, "what have I missed watching on RTE2 for the last 4 weeks?" - not much , 2 things - Champions League and Podge and Rodge :D

Thanks ash_kay, I'm too far away from Spur Hill, but I'm sure this will ignite some interest!

Has anyone picked up anything other than a carrier from Woodcock so far?

    MtM

Yes,RTE1 is the only watchable terrestrial at the moment. This is unbelievable crap that is going on. So what happens in the New Year, testing resumes and we get no picture again???

Widescreen when they gave you the date of 19th Dec for stopping the tests did they also give you a date for when they would be starting again?

I think we (Woodcock Hill) may be a little behind the trials going on in Cork city -> I've seen in other threads that they (Cork) are now getting DTT pictures and not just the carrier signal. The reason I mention this is that Cork city was also having similar problems with adjacent channel interference and a couple of weeks back they got a message appearing on the screen saying that RTE2 was moving to the difference channel/freq... Perhaps in the new year we'll see a similar move and message from Wookcock Hill - hopefullly

No,they didn't give me a date when testing will resume. Maybe they will move the channels to a different freq. If it continues like this they will have no choice.

Widescreen, have you written to RTENL about this as ranting here extensively will only give you some coronary conditon but not get anything done, make it their problem and incur their displeasure

I don't think I have been ranting, read the thread carefully. How about you contributing some constructive comment on the subject.

Not yet . I supposed the best thing to do is wait until Friday, when the testing is apparently scheduled to stop and see does reception get back to normal.

If and/when they resume testing in '09 and don't resolve the problem by switching the channels to a different frequency ,then it might be time to write a letter.

    thanks for suggestion.

suppose widescreen its like anything, theres bound to be lots more affected and rte won't be able to ignore it. Maybe it is continues in 09, get neighbours etc to write also because in other parts of country they just switched channels so no effect. Have you tried re scanning on the tv?

Yes tried re scanning. There has probably not been much of an outcry as so many people must be on Sky/UPC with multiroom subs and then its not an issue. The people I know in my estate just have their various decoders and don't even have the normal aerial connected anymore...

I'll advise later this week whether the problem has resolved.

    Widescreen,
I thought you had managed to resolve these problems?:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055422311

Also, if you are having problems only on your Panasonic TV (and not your others), it would seem that it is to Panasonic, not to RTE, that you should complain?

Great Post Zaphod ! Unfortunately no sign of any video from woodcock hill yet. Signal strngth on the test carriers remains high as do the existing analog tx's.

I thought it was too but it spread to other TV's as the testing has progressed. Testing finishes this weekend and when it actually was discontinued for a day last week, my reception was perfect again then.

Strange, I'm in Crecora and have no issues with my analog reception coming from Woodcock hill. With some many channels in the same frequency spectrum, are you sure that u dont have a mast head amplified that is now been overloaded ?

I just have a standard (newer type aerial)which picks up all four terrestrials. No mastheads etc. RTE1 is perfect, probs on the rest. Previously perfect on all four, nothing at my end has changed. RTE advised the testing was the prob as have other posters. Maybe its my very close proximity to Woodcock,I don't know. When testing ceases we'll see. Anyway at least Uncle Ruperts signals are working perfectly as always and that is the long term option anyway!

Echoing the thanks... I was going to come on here and ask someone for the QAM, FEC etc so I can set up my mythtv server but it's all there!

Works well even with a pair of bunny ears on the windowsill.... EPG data is all there too:

should you be able to pick up the signal from Spur Hill if you are in the Glanmire area of Cork?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,354 ✭✭✭radiospan

Looks like the video is turned off now again at Spur Hill.

    Carrier only.

EDIT: Sorry, that's the case on CH49. They've moved the video to CH45 now.

Well, lets hope tomorrow is the day we are in the "Clear" again! Its a joke what has been going on. I wonder how many people who have never heard of this or any forum have wasted their time trying to resolve the same problem by adjusting their equipment etc. If a similar problem happened to Sky it would be front page news and the government would probably get involved!

    AltDVB

    TSReader

I notice that the Network Information Table still incorrectly lists 738MHz rather than 666MHz as the DVB-T frequency i.e. the one used in Dublin.

Would depend where exactly in Glanmire area, the area afterall needs its own transposer for TV (which won't carry DTT for a long time)
Can you get analogues from Spur Hill?, try TV3 on Ch 60 with the correct aerial - if no reception of that, there is no point in trying digital
