It depends. It can be funny... but it can also be annoying. I think a lot of gay guys are inherently camp though. But yeah, the really OTT stuff is likely to be exaggerated.

because they do the bum they inherited girly ****?

    that's just crazy talk.

    Inherent vs. Inherit

    There's a difference.

Some people are naturally camp. Some people put it on. It can be annoying. End of story, I would have thought.

Yes, but i also find toughness, meat headedness, passiveness, posing, etc. annoying, so it seems unfair to single out campness, its just one part of the annoying trait umbrella

Campness is horrendously annoying, phrases like "OTT" and "Too much information" seriously make me want to strangle someone.

I really hate campness as it is usually followed by an arrogant, 'trying to prove Im gay' attitude. Having said that not all camp men are like this, but they all seem to love the DRAMA of it all!

It's remarkable how much attention all the non-gayers seem to give camp guys.

I hate saying this as it does annoy me, but people are people and they are entitled act whatever the way they like.

In saying that Id imagine less people would think or be bothered about gay folk if they didnt play up the stereotype, which in ways makes heterosexual ppl more homophobic.

Its also strange that gay men for example decide they prefer men and turn completely efemnite after they come out.

Are they trying to be women? Thats what I dont get, same can be said for Lesbian's who alot of time invariably become very manly as a result of coming out.

End of the day though, I dont give a monkeys.

I've two mates, grand lads - until they came out, then they started all that girlie sh*t.

It annoys the bollox out of me.
That made me picture two dudes who look like mairt acting all camp.

    I laughed.

I do. I'm not homophobic, as far as I can see it's not limited to gay men anyway. It's not so much the overt feminine behaviour as the obnoxiousness of the sources it seems to come from. Camp people are boisterous and attention seeking from what I've seen and this is what gets to me before them acting like nancy boys.

I don't really understand the mentality either. I knew a guy that as soon as he came out started wearing the most garish clothes and started talking in that creepy 'soft but dirty' way. Makes me very uncomfortable when people put on such a big front.

You seem to live a sheltered life.

What does it matter if someone behaves in what you perceive is a camp way.??

Most people I know with that 1970s attitude have confidence issues in themselves.

    2008 last I heard ;)

They make good comedians tho. eg Graham Norton, Alan Carr etc. Suppose you have to be a bit OTT in that profession.

    Yes IMO campness is annoying.
It's the constant nudge, nudge innuendo-laden thing that it connotes that gets me the most tbh.
^Alan Carr is the epitome of campness. Most annoying man on the planet. Makes Graham Norton look like Chuck Norris.

Acting camp. Not actually engaging in homosexual activity.

I absolutely hate campness, it's just so over the top. My best mate had a friend who I just couldn't stand for the simple reason that he was camp queen. Easily the most irritating person I ever met.

I strongly dislike people who have to 'try' or make an effort to be someone. Just quite the crap and be yourself.

There's nothing worse than a raging homosexual queen in your face throwing their hands all over the place!

Ah but they don't have to be gay to be camp.

I've no problem with gay folks, I've gay friends, but I have a huge problem with people who are false and overtly camp queens are just false people when you boil it down to the bones I think...

Yes it annoys the hell out of me. If men hate men that act like women....do women hate Butch lesbians?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,788 ✭✭✭✭krudler

It doesnt annoy me that they're gay I've plenty of gay friends but yeah gay guys who seem to think the entire area surrounding must just know how screaming they are is annoying, if a straight person was annoying, loud and obnoxious people would tell them to shut the **** up but you cant say that to a gay person as it makes you a filthy homophobe,or something

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,893 ✭✭✭Davidius

I don't think I've ever met anybody like that.

I didn't even know there was people like that outside of those on television.

I don't think I'm going to like this 'real world' thing at all.

That's very annoying. I know (and know of) married men that are so unbelievably camp, I don't understand how they managed to attract women.

I don't think it's the gay thing that makes it annoying, it's just the OTT-ness of it all. Like people that are really happy ALL the time, or really boisterous or something. I just want to run away with hands over ears screaming for them to stop.*

*I have a low tolerance for extreme personalities

what has confidence got to do with being irked by rampant raving screaming sqeeking annoying camp gays?

it's annoying, it has nothing to do with lack of confidence or self esteem, it's just bloody annoying to listen to regardless of what f*cking year it is

oh it's 2008 we should tolerate fck wits now.

    ffs.

Campness is like some kind of woman magnet. Camp guys tend to be surrounded by other girls....although thats most likely because they think of them as "one of the girls."

Ahem... are they 'sqeeking' and screaming while they do this? Since you're at such pains to point out you're not homophobic, surely you wouldn't have a problem with them rubbing balls unless they were doing it in a really camp way?

    Of course not
