I agree. They are the nicest potato crisp ever produced.

    As do I.
They were made in your neck of the woods, right?

So do I. 99p to be exact. Got a penny jelly out of the change.

Anyway, it would definitely have to be post decimalisation as others have pointed out.
Is there a best before date on the pack or on the bread?

    Em, what's a 'd' ? and how much is/was it worth

    1 penny

Pre-1971 we had coins like the Penny , Threepence , Sixpence, Florin, Crown, etc...

We referred to “pounds, shillings, and pence” or "l.s.d" :)

The 'd' meant 'pence' ( the 'd' coming from the latin coin 'denarius')

'd' was an old pre-decimal penny. (LSD - librae, solidi and denari - Latin for pounds, shillings and pence)

12 old pennies in a shilling.

2 and a half shillings in a half crown.

    5 shillings in a crown.

    240 pennies in a pound.

When the 'new pence' came in in 1971, there was 100 pennies in a pound.

2.4 pennies in a new penny.

    A shilling became 5p.

    2 shillings became 10p.

The 10 shilling note became 50p.

In pre decimalisation days a bill might be written as £1 3s 10d which was 1 pound, 3 shillings and 10 pennies - £1.19 in new money.

When a pack of 20 approached £1 everyone was going to give them up as it was a huge psychological barrier - a pound for a pack of fags.

I used to be sent to the shop by my mother with 12p to get an ounce of Gallaghers Condor Plug for the oul lad's pipe when he came in from work.

Mr Tayto and a thwomp, how delightfully surreal.

    2p to 3p is a huge increase.
