With all this talk of recession and doom and gloom, I think I've come up with a way of changing government and starting to work our way out of this disaster...

Here's what I'm going to do... Until we are rid of these FF & Green c*nts, I'm not spending, I'm not thinking about spending, in fact I'm doing absolutely sweet FA until we have a new government, apart from buying the ABSOLUTE MINIMUM to get by... That's how I'm gonna protest, not a red cent will I spend over and above what I have to spend to survive, until we are rid of these useless turds...

I think a lot of people have decided to do the same, only haven't found the words to express it yet...

How 'bout we save our way out of a recession!?!?!?! Make the retail statistics for every month worse than the previous month! It won't be long before the situation is so poor, that we will have a general election and we might have some hope of decent leadership.

I have a theory that this is what is happening anyway, that people are not spending because of the political leadership that we have, which to call it useless would be an affront to the word "useless"...

Let's spend absolutely fu*k all on anything and speed up the whole process, make a very clear public association between the refusal of the public to spend money and the continuance of this government...

The sooner we have an election and a change of government, the sooner we will start spending money again and get capital moving through the economy again...

Let's call it the, "I'm Grand..." campaign!

OP not trying to be cynical or anything and allowing for change in goverments but why do people wait till a recession is upon them to want to make change in goverment ? It's like saying ' i'll stick with this shower while everythings going ok but as soon as it goes pear shaped well ...they wont like it up em ? Just curious .

I have, this is like a form of hunger strike to me. I think in times like this, you must have faith in your leaders. Our government haven't brought a single idea, strategy, plan or notion to get us out of this mess, so I'm making the call for myself anyway, that they have to go, and the sooner the better.

No, this is different in my opinion. If we don't get this crowd out soon, we are seriously fu*ked. With every passing day, the danger of this government being in power is going to be the cause of this recession being longer and deeper than anything in the 1980's... The 1980's is starting to look like a trip to Disneyworld in my opinion... A few people have said to me this week that the 1980's were not this bad...

I admire the sentiment and determanation but we have to spend something beyond the basics.
There's no point in slaving away 5 or more days a week if your not going to buy something special for yourself or loved one.

You have to live and walk through life, not always crawl through it.

So go ahead and treat yourself. You can still say "stuff the government" and spend money.

the current government can't do much to be honest its external (global) factors that triggered the whole thing, whatever party is there would be in the same situation... some sort of communist regime might work though

This is possibly the worst course of action we could take. The already fragile economy would completely collapse. It's a lot easier to improve on an existing economy than to rebuild a destroyed one.

Yeah, if you are gullible enough to believe their spin, you'd swallow this. I don't say communism is the answer, but this notion where it's all in the hands of the Gods is typical Irish bullsh*t in my opinion. We got ourselves into this, through the over reliance on a property bubble that has now burst, and we'll have to get ourselves out of it... We can't be like a ship taking us whatever way the current is flowing. We steered ourselves into this and the only way out of it is to put a proper leader at the helm. We are utterly rudderless as a country, we'd be better off with nobody at the helm than who we have at the moment...

but mortgage's , food bills and gas and electric , then you have TV licence and NTL bill and bin charges , clothes to buy and so on.
Believe me you would be one of the lucky one's to have

Well actually having growing up in ireland during the 80s there was what might be refered to as ' the staus quo ' in that there wasnt the wealth around as in the 2 previous decades,(late 80s / 90s / 00 ) what you had you held onto and that was the difference .People did struggle but they coped in whatever way they had to and altough nobody wants recession maybe this generation has to expierence one to know the difference .I am thinking of the 20 sometings who will know of their own parents expierence in this . Dont forget that when a certain irish prime minister was in power the county was going down the tube while he lived the high life .Abuse and mismanagement of power is nothing new .

I'm sorry but these people are idiots. The country is not in a worse state now than it was in the 80s. A retarded chimpanzee could tell you that. Tax was at nearly 60% in the 80s, unemployment and emmigration were at rediculous proportions. Our currency was so over valued that it had to be devaluated in the mid 80s. We were practically a third world country. Things are not that bad now, they could eventually get that bad but I'd say that is extremely unlikely.

I'm no FF fan and I know they've made many mistakes running our economy, but how do you explain the fact that many economies are coincidentally going through the same situations as us? Do they all happen to have equally incompetent governments?

The recession could have been softened if the economy was better managed but it couldn't have been prevented.

Anyway, FG or labour dont want an election, they have no clue what to do either. Its better to be in opposition and be able to reject plans, than to have to come up with your own.

I disagree. I think we need to get these c*nts out as soon as possible. How long are we in this now and not a sign of any strategy, plan or action to get us back on track???

We'll be here in 6 months time discussing this and there will still be no strategy or plan to get us back into positive growth. We'll still be listening to "Ah sure it's out of our hands and it's all part of a worldwide thingy", only in 6 months time, we'll have another 60,000 people joining the dole queue?!?!!?

I remember the days when my dad used to be in tears when I was a boy, stressing about where the money was going to come from to feed and clothe us when he was out of work. He was away half the time and we struggled.

I pray my kids (or any kids) never see that of me (or any parent). Will things get tough, possibly but back to those days we will go, I hope not.

To be honest, I care much more about me having nice things than I do about making a stand or fighhting for principles etc. So I'll just continue to make sure I live a nice comfortable life as prudently as I can. Life would be so boring if we only had the bare mimimum.

We're all in this economy together, and unfortunately it's a global crisis. I've always spoken about the perils of the current corporate capitalist model and how it would all come crashing down. Well, that's happening. Globalisation is happening. Not spending just sends our economy into the ****ter a lot quicker. I think people should avoid credit and cut the cloth according to measure.

And our economy would be destroyed. So what would happen is we'd vote in FG or Labour or SF or the Continuity PD and they would preside over a ruined country. Wouldn't it be better to ride it out until the next general election? At least then when you vote someone else in they won't have to rebuild the economy completely.

You can do your bit to erode the government majority by talking/writing to TDs and councillors (especially the Greens and government aligned independents) and telling them if they continue to support the government, they'll never get another vote from you or any of your family etc.

It might seem naive to think that they care what you say but if enough people do that they will withdraw support for the govt. At the end of the day, they want their nice big TD salaries so they'll do what it takes to get elected.
