I have a 2g iphone for the past 8 months and I have all my music and some movies on it. I made the mistake of wiping my pc last week and putting windows on fresh without copying the backup of my iphone.
So now that I have installed itunes fresh (I have authorised it for this computer) I seemingly have no way to sync the music and applications etc from the iphone back onto the pc in itunes. If I try to do this I get a warning that the iphone will be erased and replaced with whatever is in itunes (nothing at the moment since it's a fresh install)
Any idea what I can do as I could do without having to find all the music and movies again and converting them etc.

    thanks

I have a first gen iPhone bought in the States which until recently worked like a dream.
Now I'm having nightmare with it as it just keeps saying "No SIM" on the top left and a screen message saying "No SIM card installed" Very occasionally it will suddenly pick up a signal only to disappear within hours. Now for the last week it still says "NO SIM" I have tried everything from a full restore to using Pwnage several times.
Its software is version 2.2. and I use a windows computer.
Can anyone PLEASE avise me what to do or even recommend somewhere that can fix it.
    Thanks in advance

We can confirm that this update SHOULD NOT be applied using iTunes if you want the chance of a soft-unlock in the near future.

If you want to keep that option of a ‘soft-unlock in the near future’ available but you want the new features of 2.2, you will be able to update to 2.2 using a PwnageTool created custom ipsw file that disables the baseband update. You will be able to do this using an updated version of PwnageTool that will be released sometime soon.

That's at the top of the iphone dev teams website. So I assume you were too quick off the mark updating to 2.2, though I'm not 100% sure on this

its not really clear from your post if this issue only started after the upgrade to 2.2, if not then this may be helpdful???

a guy at work here used to change sims quite a bit in his iphone. he started getting similar messages. he narrowed it down to the SIM tray, cause if he pressed down on a certain part of the tray he got signal again. It looked grand to the naked eye, we swapped trays, and i started getting the messages. He bought a relacement on ebay, problem sorted.

I understand that warning only applies to the 3G iphone not the 2G one.

    Sorry Folks,

I am sure you have been asked, and answered this a million times, but this is a colossal thread.

    I have a jailbroken 16gig 2G iPhone running 1.1.4

I want to upgrade to 2.2

Will I lose all my music and apps?

Whats the best route to follow.

There are so many different answers I just don't want to brick the phone.

    Thanks

Firstly, sync and backup your phone with itunes then follow the instructions on www.iclarified.com to upgrade your phone to 2.2. When that is done then just do a restore to backup on itunes. All apps and songs should be back on phone.

Thanks Gryzor, you are probably right as it happened weeks after i
I updated all the software. The SIM tray looks perfect - no damage etc. I'll give it a go and order one from eBay unless anyone knows any other way to resolve it.
Is there anyone in Dublin that repairs iPhones just in case this doesn't work?

Hi guys, just a quick one.

Im updating my first gen 1.1.1 from here(boards) and iclarified. Am i right to hold the shift key and press update (to 1.1.4) in itunes?

    HI everyone,
I got an unlocked iPhone just the other day, its the 8GB 2G version. I unwittingly let iTunes install an update that locked the phone again and it only loads up to an 'emergency number only' screen. I'v been trying to unlock it all evening and night and Im getting so frustrated!

I'm not much of a computer head, but thanks to the wonders of google I'v managed to figure out I need (and downloaded) WinPwn 2.4 BETA, iPhone1,1_2.0.2_5C1_Restore.ipsw, bl46.bin, bl39.bin, and using these I have gotten as far as entering the DFU mode and the phone screen turns white, ready for the next step. It's just after this that I get an error report to say that WinPwn has encountered a problem and has to shut down. I have tried this a few times and restarted the computer as advised, but no joy :( Im afraid to keep trying in case I end up with a fancy paperweight! Can anyone help or tell me if theres anywhere in Dublin that I can get it set up again? I'd really appriciate it.

    Thanks

    Yes.

I went from 1.1.3 -> 2.1 and they were. I am sure it would be the same for 2.2.

So I updated to 2.2 without problem.
Reconnected my iPhone to my computer, offered me the option to restore... said yes. Restore process froze and nothing happened for an hour.
Managed to restart iPhone, goes straight to synching/updating music, restore option gone, contacts gone, photos gone, and notes gone.
I take it there's no way to recover any of that?

n00btacular questions ahead, I'd appreciate any help.

I have an unlocked, jailbroken iPhone with 2.0 software on it. I bought the phone as is and would like to start from the ground up with it. I know nothing about unlocking/jailbreaking. The phone has installer.app and Boot Neuter installed. Is it OK to leave the phone as is? Or is there a way to update it? (I know not to update via iTunes etc).

I have an O2 contract SIM card ,when I pop it in the phone tells me that the card is locked. Is there any way to unlock this?

    Thanks:o

you can update to 2.2 if you want using winpwn, it will jailbreak and unlock all in one. there are very easy tutorials at iclarified.com
is your 02 sim card just pin locked because it should work in your unlocked phone
p.s. you dont need to update, your phone will work fine at 2.0
