Man commits suicide live on Justin.tv

Only just read this on Digg, mods remove if you think it's not appropriate. I haven't seen it posted elsewhere on boards.

Gist of the story is a 19 year old guy on the bodybuilding.com forum posted up a list of pills he was going to take to kill himself, people egged him on, posted up a suicide note, got furthered egged on and then went through with it on Justin.tv. Again more people taking the piss, eventually hours later people near the guy got through to the Sheriff's office in his county and the police arrived too late and the poor guy was dead.

Not the first time this happened. I was there for one before on paltalk.. they were egging a guy on for ages.. I was in the room. I had left to get food, came back and the chap was dead. It was all over the news.

Thats really sick. I can never understand the mentality of people who do that. And it's not the first suicide to be egged on and it probably wont be the last. The people who egged should be arrested.

Very similar to the case of the guy who did pretty much that on IRC.

And the gene pool gains +1 purity.

Seriously though, it sounds like the boy who cried wolf to me. He was a serial troller on the forums and was known for pulling stunts.

To be fair, I could imagine some people on here doing that if someone, often seen as a troll, posted up that they're going to kill themselves.

It's still disgusting, but it'd happen on most internet forums.

Can't remember what I saw it on recently, but there was a guy on top of a building threatening to jump and the assembled crowd below egged him on, so he jumped. The police were up there trying to talk him down and this bunch of degenerates decided this was funny. I'll bet they weren't laughing too much when they were covered in bits of him.

It really really makes me wonder about people when I hear about this kind of thing.

What the egging daft sods don't know is that their I.P. and their messages are recorded!

If the authorities are bothered, they might arrest a few of those doing the egging to show that they might be held culpable in the suicide.
Pressurising a clearly mentally unstable person might be a legal cause of action in the eyes of the law.

Just goes to show anyway that there is too many people out there with too little brains between the lot of them. They are nothing more than a pack of animal moronic scum.

Its an old thread, but i seen this on a different forum with his thread entitled "ask a guy whos gonna OD again tonight, anything".
All threads have been deleted since. There was a youtube video of the cops breaking into his room also. The guy wasnt moving on the bed, but they came in guns at the ready.

Seems like the guy had a problem

It's one thing if it's some poor fool standing on a ledge - which is a clear and real danger, but some idiot on the internet, of whom there are millions & could easily be spoofing? Come on people - the internet is the wonderful web of lies & people being who they are not. Why would anyone truly believe someone would be stupid enough to do such a thing; and the reaction I imagine would be one of disdain for the person claiming it - eppecially if they were a seriel troll. People just presume that as per usual an idiot is trolling. Arrest people for being part of it? How could the court prove that these people had any idea that the person on the receiving end of the abuse was actually going to do something? what would they be charged with & what evidence other than a CONVERSTION ON THE INTERNET would the prosecution give? jesus holy christ. If someone is stupid enough to kill themselves because a bunch of faceless retards on the internet egg them on, then let them kill themselves, it's unfortunate for their family and friends, but for society on a whole its a boon.

Something like a similar case in America running at the moment.
A young girl killed herself after being pressurised by an adult and the adults daughter - all over the internet.
The mother and daughter are now charged with legal manslaughter or something similar.

Also the law is being further amended to include (to a greater degree) such egging on and bullying that leads to suicide, to be a more solid legal chargeable crime.

If you're going to apportion blame to a bunch of randomers who never met the deceased because they "egged him on" and didn't take his attention whoring seriously then you might as well prosecute whatever family and friends he has for not stopping it.

Surely they'd be expected to know him even better than online posters and surely their psychic spidey sense should have worked and allowed them to know he was super serious by virtue of their proximity.

I see your point, and I agree you definitely can't trust people on the internet.

However, if you look at it from the point of view that a suicidal person is obviously not in a healthy state of mind- perhaps it really was a 'cry for help' and not attention-whoring? Who can say?

While the people egging him on can't really be legally blamed for his death ( as in fairness, maybe some of them thought he was joking around), I find the thought of encouraging somebody to kill themselves ( even if it is just a stranger on a message board) a very sick thing to do.

What if the guy had been claiming he was going to kill a child, or rape somebody? Would they be also encouraging him then? Just a thought.
