Watch the Champions League football and the Premiership on a Saturday sometimes but that's it.

Awful network altogether. The production values are practically non-existent. They don't seem to have moved on from the 80's.

Anything decent shown isn't homegrown. Even the RTE news looks completely outdated and the readers are awfully boring at times, they've no personalities.

Don't get me started on Pat f**king Kenny. This man is a complete an utter idiot of the highest calibre. He's so incompetent and doesn't seem to know the meaning of discretion or empathy. That's my opinion.

I'd rather stick pins in my ears than listen to RTE radio - Ryan, Duffy, or those tools Colm and Fatboy.

    Rant over.

I thought the general consensus on AH was that the Poles should be beaten?

They should have been beaten alright but sure that Italian played Gibson in midfield instead of Andy Reid. Come on!

All I have to say is "Colm and Jim-Jims Home Run"

If I wanted to hear how Andy Reid should be playing, I'd watch RTÉ.

so because of the stone roses "waterfall" *thats the theme tune of the panel*,is the reason your not allowed to watch it

The thing about it is that you have to be in Ireland to watch it on the Internet. They block all outside access.

RTÉ radio is amazing considering the choice available in my area. I do sometimes get a feeling that people listen to it all the time just to complain about something.

The arguement about the license fee and advertising. This happens all over Europe. RTE isn't alone.

Gerry Ryan gets paid a fortune, so ****ing what. He is on 2FM and guess what. 2FM receives nothing from the license fee.

I have a friend that listens to Joe Duffy daily. I asked him why the hell would he want to listen to old grannies giving out about dogs pissing on their lawns every day but he didn't seem to know why. I think he gets a perverse pleasure out of it.

I don't really care what Gerry Ryan gets paid. It doesn't affect me in any way. Bring back secrets though.

Ok ok each to his/her own.

Would not call myself an expert on radio, but RTE 1 is my favourite station.

I find it very stimulating and informative.

But i respect the opinions of people who don't like it.

Fair enough, happy it's working out for you. I don't listen to much radio myself so i'm no expert on it. I can listen to their sports coverage. The rest....hmmmm.

There is the sports coverage, news output, if you like classical music and its like then there is a whole channel. Are you an Irish speaker? That is catered for too. Listen to music? Covered.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,575 ✭✭✭✭FlutterinBantam

Try Morning Ireland, people might find out what is going on with an objective slant.

Áine is a sexy bitch, have a thing for her.

Yeah if you're not really into music and will listen to pretty much anything and the same classics being played all the time. No thanks. I'd admit I am a bit of a music snob really there's nothing there, for me.

While I'm at it ,listen to Kenny.

I know it's fashionable to dis him, but take it from me, as an educated person,he is ALWAYS well briefed, well informed,on top of his game, unlike a lot of the whankers who float around the airwaves and court the popular mores and outlook.

    Dig under the surface dude:D

If they had programmes with that Sharon Ni Bheolin Sharon ni Beoleen one from the news called Sharon, getting her tits out live now at the end of each news broadcast and smacking them together... "!smack! !smack! !smack! Ooh I wish that weather girl from TG4 was here now I'd smack my tits off hers, Mmmmm".

I'd pay good money now to watch that.

    Ah Sharon......... :)

She's awful without a script though. She stutters and stammers and asks stupid questions as soon as things go off-script even slightly.

She's awful WITH a script. She trips over lines every few paragraphs. It's cringe-worthy at this stage. She really needs to be replaced.

You serious? I listen to MI, and I actually do find her voice sexy.

Don't want to know what she looks like for fear of ruining the illusion.

Pat Kenny is proabably the best radio presenter on morning radio (bearing in mind the show he presents; he's not there to provide mindless craic like Darcy et al).

As you've said, he is always well read on every topic he covers. It's just a pity that he'll be remembered for being a plank on television. If he remained in current affairs throughout his career he would have left a more resounding and impressive legacy.

Just skimmed back some pages of this post and read someone saying the licence fee doesn'y pay Gerry Ryans wages ? Sorry but that's a load of bollocks, yes technically the licence fee doesn't pay his wages but in all honesty the money paying his wages is offset against the licence fee. RTE wouldn't pay him or others the high wages they get if they (RTE) didn't have the money from the licence coming in to them in the first place.

Remove the licence fee and thusly remove another burden placed upon the Irish people. Useless piece of shít channels and the licence should be scrapped.
Those who want to pay for it and think it's worth the money, good for you but you'll find the vast majority of people in this country, if given the choice, would not pay a single cent to those pack of lousy useless bastards in RTE.

their slipshod attitude to programming and production values,t heir absolutely laughable scheduling (putting stuff on in the middle of the night whilst showing repeats at primetime evenings) their downright awful cueing/dubbing/editorial skills (cutting to ad breaks, like a child would cut with a pair of scissors), their insistence on paying excessive sums over long periods to lack lustre DJ's, presenters and other celebrity figureheads (Kenny, Ryan, Duffy, etc) because of some perceived notion that some other broadcaster in Ireland is going to usurp them and steal their figurehead, the apparent nepotism and "jobs for the boys" attitude, the seeming lack of support for homegrown talent (unless they can make a talent/phone poll show out of them), the frankly diabolical range of homegrown stuff they do turn out, most of which is a simple clone/copy of something that was successful in the UK two years back
    Examples:

    - "See Lost first on RTE. Tonight, 10pm" - big newpaper ad last year. Actual time Lost was scheduled for: 9.55pm. As opposed to the 9 o'clock news. At 9.03.

    - "How low can you go?" - low enough to air this, apparently. Following it up with the J1 thing which looks great. Not.

    - Can't see how you need an example of overpaid celebrities, Pat Kenny and Gerry Ryan are pretty obvious

    - The recent case of them chopping off the end of Gallipoli, then going back to it after starting the next program

    - Last series of 24. Stuck in such a stupid late night slot that, when I saw it, I went through the entire EPG for the week looking to see when the first showing was, since I assumed that was the repeat.

    - A few years ago, watching "Where Eagles Dare" on a Saturday afternoon. Missed the last 20 minutes after they decided to stick Telly Bingo in the middle of it.
