for some reason i'm only annoyed by it if its someone i've been living with for a while.

I can't eat in the same room as my father. It would be uncomfortable after i, you know, murdered everything while he had noodles.

It really infuriates me when someone is chewing with the mouth open, really makes me want to leave the room too.

I dont mind any other noise when eating, most of these are unavoidable anyway, unless scraping of the fork on the teeth etc, but they dont bother me at all, it's just the chewing with the mouth open.

What I want to know is, how do you broach the subject with someone who does this? Leaving the room isnt really an option everytime, if you do, you would have to explain why you're leaving the room every time, and I think the noise making party would take exception to the reason being pointed out to them, especially if it were family. For now, I just try to avoid being in the situation.

I find that very often the people who are niosy eaters are fine when they eat out, but it's just at home they think it's somewhat more acceptable! So it's not as if they dont know they are doing it! Arrrrgggghhhh!

I think it would be fun to tie you all up in a small room and have some loud eaters eat away :D:p

I don't think it's fair of people to get annoyed by someone crunching loudly - what are you supposed to do? Let the crisps melt in your mouth before crunching them?
But avoidable eating noises - disgusting and rude.

Tea/soup slurping is the worst imo.

people who bash cutlery against plates are as bad. My dad sounds like he uses 3 spoons to eat a bowl of soup

No I'll admit, It is very rude to comment while someone is trying to eat, but I cant help myself. It's either say something or punch em straight on the nose. I once told a friend she sounded like a "pig sifting through slops", needless to say she wasn't impressed.

Trust me the feeling of punching is very much felt by your friend as well...

Can't say im that bothered about eating noises, its people that breath really loud like a bellows that annoy me. God they make me want to smother them.

ah same, one of the family eats with the mouth closed and eats really fast and you can hear breathing a mile away. really annoys me :P

also, people who take about four hours to eat an apple.

    #':df;n!!!

other than that the noises don't really bother me!!

Are you me? +1 to all of the above!

Slurping of any kind will actually cause the aul red mist to rise and I have to leave the company of someone who is doing this, as it makes me feel so sick my fingers start twitching involuntarily, as they imagine themselves wrapping round the throat of said offender.
I don't mind crunching of crisps, as it's pretty much unavoidable, although it still irritates me when I eat crisps and i can hear myself crunching them.
Chewing with your mouth open - arrrrrrrrrgh! close your mouth you goddamn savage fool. I really don't need to see your mastication process and all the strings of saliva globbing from your pallette to your half-chewed food. Bleurgh.
And woe betide if anyone gulps their drink in a greedy noisy disgusting fashion, I have to walk out of the room to stop myself from punching them in their stupid gluttonous throat.

I am actually at the point where even if it's one of my dogs slurping or making lovely loud smacking noises when licking themselves I will have toput them outside the room so I won't throttle them.

Having said that, pretty much most things that other humans do annoys me, so why I get so worked up about this thing in particular baffles me.

    +1.
Although my list also includes people breathing too loud, and people who lean on you when they sit beside you on the bus.

Nothing boils my blood I smoke weed. :D

If someone made an issue of eating loudly you can be guaranteed I'd always eat like that in front of them. I'd never let something like that get to me.

Some horse wolfing down a packet of skips on the bus is a killer.

This is the funniest thread I've read in ages. Keyser's 'fcukin' animals' comment and another by Echosound had me in stitches:D. I totally know how all you lot feel! I seriously can't bear it either.....even can't stick it when 'the Simpsons' are eating, did you ever hear them?!
My son (19)moans when he eats coco pops! Doesn't know he's doing it! As soon as I glare at him, he says 'what? What am I doing?' He can't hear himself... as soon as he relaxes, the moaning starts again! Like 'yum, yum, yum' under his breath...FCUK!!! He also inhales his tea...yes..he sucks it up like a hoover..shhlurrrrp!!! AND he swallows so loudly you'd hear him swallowing at the bottom of the feckin' garden.
Hate plate scrapers and fork biters too and of course dirty b*stards who eat with their mouths open.
On the breathing thing...yes I hate noisy breathers too..and people who when they nod off make a noise that sounds like a clock's 'tock' sound..ever hear that? And whistling nostrils...can't listen to my own either to be fair whenever afflicted.:o

I think that this tendency to get annoyed shows a deep hatred of the eater. If you like the person, you don't notice the noise. My wife makes noises at the dinner table and one of these days I'm going to slam a shovel into the back of her head. One final gurgling noise and that will be it.

Absolutely can't stand it when people are eating in an unsuitable place like a lecture or in the library. And I can't help myself but be slightly repulsed by the sound of them eating in these situations. Glad I'm not the only one on this boat!

I can't stand it tbh. I hate when people try to talk with a mouthful of food. Just f*cking swallow it ffs!!

My ex used to be a ridiculous eater. He'd shovel a load of noodles into his mouth and would proceed to spit the one's that overflowed back into the bowl. It was so vile. And the noise of him - holy hell!!

I mentioned it once and he honestly couldn't understand what the problem was.

My mother is addicted to chewing gum and you can hear it swirling around in her mouth. She is constantly chewing. So much so that you actually cant concentrate cos she looks like an animal grazing on something.

I hate that fork thing too where they scrape it off their teeth. Aaagh.

Yep - definitely a pet peeve of mine for sure!
    :D

Dear God, messy eaters annoy the hell out of me. There are certain family members of mine who sound as if they are swimming through a bowl of soup (slurping, heavy breathing, etc), rather than drinking it. Either that, or it sounds like they are making love to it. It's vile. And I can't stand if people have bits of food on their face, hands, or at worst, clothes. Fcuking disgusting. I feel sick just thinking of it.

A friend of mine eats like an animal, she eats with her hands picks up pieces off her dinner and eats them and then one by one sucks all her fingers up to the top.

On her thumbs she has really long nails all yellow from smoking and often there is the likes of mashed potato and gravy stuck in the nails for the whole meal. I cant look at it.

When she eats crisps at the end she tears open the bag, flattens it onto the table and licks her fingers and swipes them methodically over the inside of the bag.

She is just a hopeless case cos she doesnt care.

The guys on 98 fm were talking about this yesterday, apparently one of the presenters, Dermot, gets really irritated and annoyed when he hears somebody eating. I have the exact same problem, my blood boils if I hear somebody eating, so much so that I have to leave the room.
Apparently it's pretty common and its called Hyperacusis or something, just wondering if this affects anyone else.

Someone rang me last week and was eating on the phone ... I hung up. They rang back and were still eating ...... I hung up again. They havent rang back.

I would have said ''see ya later'' long ago. Seriously, I feel like throwing up after reading that. :pac:

Probably best if you stop talking to her and tell people she once had sex with a dog.
