Yes, if he can show that you, on a previous visit were a nuisance and or causing such a disturbance that you are possible still a risk to the present public/staff.
You could ask him to prove this but by the time you even get the words out to ask, you will probably be thrown out anyway by the bouncers and ignored!

    Thats the sad truth.

Proving that you were a nuisance or not is irrelevant since premises have the right to refuse admission to anyone for any reason.

Honestly you haven't a leg to stand on, find yourself a new watering hole and move on.

Or he could exact some revenge on the place.
Honestly, everybody wants to walk away after they've been slighted, nobody wants revenge anymore.

Its a bit of a grey area. Owners gave right to refuse anyone but in doing so, now they must justify their actions by saying why they are refusing entry.
If they don't, they find themselves open to the discrimination laws that were revised just in the last year or two. The traveling community have become aware of this discrimination law and have previously used it to aid their cases of rejection.

Interesting reading in in the following link from the Irish Council of Civil Liberties: http://uk.wrs.yahoo.com/_ylt=A1f4cfbIXCFJSBQBohxLBQx.;_ylu=X3oDMTE1Zjh2cTJoBHNlYwNzcgRwb3MDOARjb2xvA2lyZAR2dGlkA1VLMDUzNl81MzY-/SIG=13g6fmbd2/EXP=1227009608/**http%3a//iccl.ie/DB_Data/publications/ICCLSubmissionreportoftheCommissiononLiquorLicensing.pdf

    One eye opening quote:
    6. Another example of a vulnerable group is older persons refused entry on the basis of
age. There already have been a number of cases where older persons have been
refused entry to pubs and nightclubs on the basis of their age. Increased discretion, and
in particular any proposal to allow publicans' and nightclub owners to refuse groups of
persons, is likely to impact significantly on this group also. The right to refuse groups of
people is also likely to have an effect on young adults over the age of eighteen, who are
often the subject of refusal of entry solely on the basis of their age. There have also been
a number of cases taken on the basis of discrimination based on race.

I'm getting on in age. If I turn up at my local disco when I am 78, will I have right to be angry at being refused?

Incorrect AFAIK. A bar owner / member of staff / security has no obligation to reveal to the person that they are refusing why they have to clear off.

However, they may be obliged to explain their reasoning to a judge if the person feels that they were being discriminated against.

When I used to work on doors I would never give a reason (unless it was ID related), some people used to get so offended when you told them they were too drunk, and I just found it easier to just say 'Not tonight mate' and leave them make up their own mind. It led to less trouble in the long run.

As mentioned, its a bit of a grey area.
Door staff (I think) have to give a reason (for their own good if not for the drunk plonker) for refusing entry if asked.
Having worked, managed and run bars for 20+ years before leaving the business (thats another story) the laws were changing as I was leaving the business, more in favour of the person trying to gain entry.
The travelling community were influential in this, in that there were taking and won a number of cases where they were refused entry, were not given a reason when asked, claimed discrimination and took their cases further in front of a judge.
The law was then asked to be further defined (by Irish publican societies) to differentiate in cases where such volatile situations regularly occurred.

Subsequently the laws also regarding Doormen themselves (and the now licences they are supposed to possess) was revised too as part of the Private Security Services Act and separate from that, Irish Hospitality Law also.

went ino my local for a quick wan on a night, i was asked for 2 euro admission for music for dancing, i had 2 1/2 wans and left after 20 minutes, as i was leaving i was asked again for the 2 euro, i refused stating that i am partially disabled barley able to walk without a cane, the owner came over to me stopping the music told me to pay for the music or i was barred for life, telling me that he knew all about me, that i got easy money out of false claims, i just walked out saying nothing as i did not want to lower myself to his level, that was about 4 years ago, i have not been back since
